Chapter 2 - The Girl And The Men On Horses

The situation around her seemed dire, and if she wanted to live she would need to run immediately. The only problem was.. she was surrounded by men on horses, what's worse is that they didn't seem inexperienced, so compared to her, a girl with 0 combat training and only her wits to help her, the situation seemed impossible.

Ira needed to think fast, if she spared even a single moment on unnecessary thoughts and emotions, she would die.

No matter what she thought of, she just couldn't see herself surviving this encounter, it was nearly impossible… nearly.

Ira noticed that there was a small opening to a building nearby, large enough for her to get through, but small enough for men in bulky armor to not be able to. It was her best, and only option.

As one of The Men On Horses charged at her, riding sword in hand, she jumped out of the way, sending herself into a sloppy roll.

Ira immediately jumped up, running as fast as she could, faster than she had in her entire life. She ducked and rolled under multiple blades, all aiming to split her open, merely centimeters from hitting their target with a lethal blow.

As the distance between her and the collapsed building shortened, a spark of hope ignited in her body, she felt as if she was just in reach of salvation..

But that was all crushed instantly, what lay before her was the collapsed building.. but also 2 Knights blocking her path, their armor wasn't nearly as bulky as the men on horses, so they would be able to follow her into the collapsed building, their blades were drawn and ready to sever her soft flesh wide open.

'No.. this isn't fair!'

Her hope of surviving was completely gone, she had no idea why her body still forced itself to continue moving, maybe it was because she still had hope somewhere deep down, that she would survive, and that her life would finally turn for the better. But of course, life wasn't fair, it didn't spare anyone from the sorrows and miseries of life.

'Wait..'

As Ira looked on, her mind had finally clicked that they weren't as heavily protected, and that there were gaps in their armor.. and that their neck was exposed.

Her hope was revitalized, she had a chance, all she needed to do, was kill 2 highly trained men…

It wasn't truly impossible, but the chances were so astronomically low that it seemed to be. The only thing that was going her way, was that the men were underestimating her, after all, who would be scared of an untrained woman, especially when it was over a dozen men against that said woman.

The two knights in front of her were probably the ones underestimating her the most, it was easy to tell, the overconfidence in their face, the way they leisurely held their blades, the obvious flaws they made while getting in position for their attack. They had completely underestimated her, and that would be the last thing the two men did, or at least one of them.

Ira charged at the slender men on the left, he seemed to be the fastest of the two, so therefore she needed to take him out at least.

The slender knight's face was covered in a smug expression, quickly striking with his sword in a predictable manner, which Ira promptly dodged and then ripped the skin off his throat.

The Knight's expression instantly changed from one of smugness, to one of terror and rage, he sloppily swung his sword again, Ira not even needing to dodge that strike just kept clawing and pulling at his throat. There was no way this man would live, his throat had just been clawed and ripped at until the bone.

Ira picked up the dying knights sword, spinning around to gain speed and throwing it at the other knight, the blade cut through the leather armours breastplate with some resistance, but still managed to reach the second knights skin, this wouldn't kill him but it would ensure she would have a few dozen moments at least before he could enter the collapsed building in an attempt to chase after her.

Now that the slender knight wasn't in the way of The Men On Horses' blades, she needed to quickly run into the building, she was already exhausted and wouldn't have the energy after entering the building to run if she had to dodge and roll her way to it.

In a sudden burst of energy, she quickly ran towards the building, but just a few moments before she entered it, SLASH.

Her back had been slightly cut open by one of The Men On Horses, it wasn't immediately lethal, but it would need medical attention soon. Just a few moments before another blade fell upon her she managed to stumble into the collapsed building.

***

She wasn't out of the clear, she had about 20 moments before The Men On Horses would round the street from the right, and if she wasn't somewhere safe before then, she would surely die this time.

So, she ran, and she ran, she ran as fast and long as possible, she needed to escape them, and so she did. She managed to make it through an alleyway so small that no man on a horse could follow her, another great thing about it was that it had multiple forks, so it would be much too difficult to follow her.

There was a problem though, if she didn't get medical attention soon, she would die from blood loss. She at least needed a way to stop the bleeding. She also had to worry about the cold killing her, too. She was soaking wet in freezing weather, she needed to find a safe place to start a fire without her smoke being noticed.

She needed so many things, but she had no time for any of them, so they would have to wait..
