Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

I found a wedding video that my wife made with her ex-husband. What I saw on that tape will haunt me forever. My name is David and I've been married to Sarah for 8 years. We met at a coffee shop in Portland in 2016. She was sitting alone, tears streaming down her face, staring out the window like she was waiting for someone who would never come. I bought her coffee and we talked for hours. She'd just left a bad marriage. Her ex-husband, Marcus, had been controlling and she'd finally found courage to

leave. She said he'd been like a completely different person after their wedding. He used to say the strangest things, she whispered like something else was wearing his face. I should have paid attention to those words. Sarah and I moved in together after 6 months. She was perfect, but there were always moments that felt off. She'd stare at empty corners for way too long. She'd wake up screaming about shadows on the walls. Sometimes her face would go completely blank like she was listening

to something only she could hear. But I love her. I convinced myself it was trauma from her previous marriage. Everything changed 3 days ago when I was cleaning our attic. I found an old box under Christmas decorations. Inside was a camcorder from 2015 and a tape labeled Marcus and Sarah wedding night. I shouldn't have watched it, but I had to know what kind of man had hurt her. The tape started normally. Sarah in her wedding dress looking beautiful but terrified in some hotel room. The time

stamp read June 15th, 2015. Marcus was behind the camera. Please turn off the camera. She kept saying, "I don't want to do this anymore." Marcus laughed, but it sounded wet, like he was choking. We need to document this moment. It's important for later. That's when I noticed something wrong with the hotel room. The walls looked like they were breathing. The wallpaper moved in slow waves like something was pressing from inside. There were shadows in corners that didn't match any furniture. Sarah

saw it, too. She kept looking around with panic eyes. Something's wrong. she whispered. "Something's in here with us." Marcus set the camera down, and I got my first clear look at his face. His skin was too pale, his eyes completely black, and when he smiled, I could see way too many teeth. "Don't worry about them," he said, glancing toward the darkest corn. "They're just here to witness." The shadows started moving. They peeled off the walls like living

things stretching towards Sarah. She screamed and tried to run, but Marcus grabbed her wrist. "It's time for the real ceremony," he said. Marcus pressed his palm against Sarah's forehead, and her eyes rolled back until only whites were showing. She started convulsing, her body bending in impossible ways. The shadows wrapped around her like smoke. They poured into her mouth, her nose, her ears. Sarah's screams became muffled, then stopped. Her body went limp for a full minute. Nothing

happened. Marcus just stood there with that horrible smile. Then Sarah's eyes snapped open, but they weren't her eyes anymore. They were completely black just like Marcus'. She sat up slowly and looked directly into the camera. When she spoke, her voice was different, deeper, like multiple people talking at once. "The vessel is prepared," she said. "The transfer is complete." Marcus picked up the camera. "How do you feel?" Sarah tilted her head like she was

listening to something empty. I need to feed soon. The camera started shaking. Marcus was breathing heavily, struggling. They want me to turn it off. He gasped. But you need to know. Anyone who watches this needs to understand what we've become. Sarah stood and walked toward the camera with that tilted head. "We're not alone anymore," she whispered, reaching toward the lens. "We're never alone." The screen went black. I sat there for 20 minutes trying to process what I'd seen. It had to be

fake. But deep down, I knew it was real. It explained everything about Sarah. The blank stairs, the night terrors, the way she sometimes seemed like a different person. I heard her car in the driveway and quickly shoved the camcorder back, but when I turned around, Sarah was already at the attic stairs. I hadn't heard her come up. "What are you doing up here?" she asked, but her voice sounded too calm. "Just cleaning, I managed. Found some Christmas stuff." She looked at the box and her expression

changed. Her head tilted to one side, just like in the video. "Did you find anything interesting?" she asked. I shook my head, but she was already walking toward me. Her movements were too smooth, like she was gliding. "David," she said, and her voice had that same deep quality from the tape. "We need to talk." That's when I noticed her eyes. They weren't brown anymore. They were completely black. I dropped the box and ran, pushed past her, grabbed my keys, and got in my car. I've

been driving for 3 days straight, stopping only for gas. But I think they're following me. I keep seeing shadows that move wrong. Last night at a rest stop, I swear I saw Sarah by the vending machines. When I looked directly at her, she was gone. Every time I try researching shadow possession on my phone, the screen goes black for exactly 10 seconds. Like something doesn't want me to find answers. The worst part is I can't stop thinking about what Marcus said. Anyone who watches this needs to

understand what we've become. What if the tape was meant to be found? What if watching it was a trigger? Because ever since I saw that video, I've been hearing whispers. They're getting louder every day. Sometimes when I look in my rearview mirror, my eyes look darker than they should. I think whatever took Sarah is trying to take me, too. I can feel it spreading through me like ice water. My thoughts are getting cloudier, and there are gaps in my memory. Yesterday, I drove for 6 hours, but only

remember starting the car. If you're reading this, don't try to find that tape. Don't look for Sarah or Marcus. Just stay away from shadows that move wrong and people whose eyes are too dark. I'm going to keep driving until I can't anymore. But I have a feeling they're already inside my head.
