Chapter 200: Life Is Getting Better
Upon entering the second day, Sarah used the materials she had to make an axe and a hoe, then began to look for materials to make a bonfire and torches. On this first night, she had almost discovered some of the settings.
Having a bonfire and torches at night was safe. However, the atmosphere was a little unpleasant, the vision was narrow, and the background noise was a little unsettling. Without torches, the monsters with glowing eyes she had seen before could be fatal.
So, for safety, she decided to gather some materials to make torches. The safest option was to gather resources as quickly as possible and arm herself.
The surrounding forest had become completely black from her fire. She took out her axe and cut it, letting a little charcoal fall, a useful material, but she wasn't sure what it would be used for.
Looking at the materials in her backpack, Sarah realized that she had enough to build a scientific machine. Upon arriving at the place where she had lit the bonfire the night before, Sarah decided to build it immediately.
Then, Wilson created a green machine that looked like a windmill. With the appearance of the scientific machine, Sarah discovered that she had unlocked several new functions, such as magic, equipment, and a list of object creation like planks.
"How many resources!", Sarah exclaimed, overwhelmed.
Apart from an axe and a pickaxe, she still couldn't create anything. In addition, many of the materials she hadn't even seen before, such as feces and spider silk.
"Forget it, let's find something to eat first." Taking a look at the supplies in her backpack, Sarah decided to ignore the machine for now and at least get enough for the day and night.
Before, she depended on berries for food, but now she was running out of them. Although her hunger bar was half full, she had run out of berries. And most importantly, the night before she had set the mountain on fire, burning many of the surrounding trees and berry bushes. She had not collected the berries from many bushes before, so now she had nothing to eat.
After consulting the map, Sarah chose a random direction and began to explore. Along the way, she chopped down trees, collected stones, dug for minerals, and even collected carrots, quickly enriching her inventory.
At dusk, just as Sarah was about to return to the scientific machine to see what she could do with the materials she had, she suddenly heard the howl of a boar and a strange roar. Curious, Sarah ran towards the sound and came across a surprising sight.
A group of upright pig-men was waging a fierce battle against a group of green fish-men, roaring and shouting as they fought.
"Ahhh!".
"Ahhh!".
"The pig-men are about to start a massacre!".
"Walter Groot!".
"Gulupu! Granpillapu! Ahhh!".
She could understand the pig-men's words, but the fish-men's screams were completely incomprehensible. Two groups of creatures, about eight or nine, seemed to be locked in a fight, hitting each other with their fists wildly. Sarah observed their huge figures, then Wilson's smaller arms and legs, and decided that it would be better not to interfere.
But just as she was about to leave, she was surprised to see something. As the two groups clashed, the dead monsters were dropping pieces of meat.
"Meat! I can improve my food!". Sarah's eyes lit up upon seeing the pieces of meat in front of her.
So far, her diet in the game had been mainly vegetarian: berries, carrots, flower petals, and, of course, some mushrooms. Flower petals seemed to increase her health, while some mushrooms, for some reason, reduced it. Berries were her main source of food.
As for meat, she had tried to hunt rabbits, but they were so fast that she couldn't catch them. Now, she saw a piece of meat ready to eat.
While two monsters fought, Sarah crept up and stole a piece of meat from the ground. However, she accidentally attracted the aggression of a murloc, which scared her and made her flee.
Luckily, this murloc was incredibly stupid, unlike the bees and other monsters she had run into before. He even stopped before attacking, so as long as she ran without looking back, she wouldn't have to worry about being hit.
After the murloc's aggression subsided, Sarah crept back and waited for the two groups to finish fighting before collecting all the fish and meat that had fallen.
"This life, this little day, gets better every day! There's meat to eat!".
After clearing the battlefield, it soon got dark. Her home was still far away, so Sarah did not leave and simply lit a bonfire, preparing to spend the night.
This time, Sarah did not set the mountain on fire, aware that those trees would end up being hers. If they were burned now, she wouldn't know how far she would have to run to chop firewood.
In addition, being far from the bonfire would make her sanity level drop. Although she didn't know what would happen if her sanity level dropped, Sarah decided not to run.
It was hard for her to gain sanity. So far, she had only discovered that picking flowers increased it, and the amount was minimal. It was not like her hunger level, which she could easily satisfy with a little food.
After successfully surviving her second night, Sarah returned to the base, looking at her supplies and feeling good.
"This game is really interesting!".
After reviewing the necessary materials, Sarah crafted two axes and a pickaxe, continuing her adventure as a logger and miner, exploring the new map.
While exploring, she discovered something quite interesting: wormholes in certain areas of the map. Players could approach a wormhole and jump inside it, traveling to another area. After jumping through the wormhole, she saw a creature called a tallbird. But apart from its long legs, Sarah could not see how its large eyes resembled those of a bird. Instead, the large white egg nearby intrigued her; it looked delicious.
As Sarah continued to explore the game, the seventh day arrived quickly. During this time, she discovered many new tricks, such as that the food in the game could be roasted. They simply dragged it from their backpack to a bonfire.
This discovery amazed her. She had never before imagined that something like this existed.
"Well, I'll gather more supplies, make some grass armor and a spear, and then I can explore the outside world." Sarah reviewed the supplies she had and summarized them.
Although she had been playing for seven days and was on the eighth, she had been a little careless during this time and had not gathered many materials. Sometimes she just wandered around outside for a whole day.
Now she felt that she had a good grasp of the general mechanics of the game and it was time to embark on a new adventure.
