I mean I suppose there IS some merit to the idea of trying to keep the blood "pure" since most pureblood houses did have some sort of extra ability inherent to their bloodline but otherwise it was nonsense. Even then the chance of said ability manifesting in one of the offspring of the family was very low, with the exception of certain bloodlines for some reason. For example the Gaunt family while it still existed were somehow guaranteed to awaken parseltongue. There was probably some secret there if I was being honest as otherwise it made no sense.-
Speaking of parseltongue as an ability it was priced at fifty thousand coins which was middle of the list surprisingly. From the description though I couldn't help but agree with it's price. According to the system parseltongue had exactly three uses. The first was of course communicating with and commanding MOST species of serpents. As it turned out most magical species of serpent can't actually be commanded, only coaxed or bribed in to compliance. The second use was that if used in serpent related spell work the effects of the spells were much stronger than otherwise should be possible.-
The final use of the ability made me laugh as the ability also buffed healing spells, especially those that dealt with poison or curses. Beyond these uses though the ability had no other uses so it's rather lackluster pricing made perfect sense. Another ability that I recognized on this list was the metamorphagus ability that Nymphadora Tonks had in the books. Which was ironically the Black families ability that had been dormant for decades. The price for this ability was set much higher than parseltongue at a whopping two million coins.-
According to the system Nymphadora Tonks had barely even scratched the surface of the ability in the books. Changing ones appearance was the most basic thing the ability allowed. The real value was being able to mimic the properties of other things, magical or not in nature. In other words the ability let the user copy other innate abilities such as a dragons resistance to magic or ability to breath fire. The image the system painted of a mature metamorphagus ability user was a witch or wizard who were so versatile and powerful that even without a wand they were nigh unstoppable.-
There were plenty of other abilities as well of both good and strange uses that I considered collecting eventually. Like that though I was done with the system for now and went to experimenting with my new skill. I knew a bit of broken spanish after taking the course in high school and closed my eyes to try and remember as much as I could on the subject. It was slow going at first as those memories were over a decade old so I just sat there mumbling what little I remembered to try and jog them.-
As more and more of my lessons surfaced my mastery of the language began to rise rapidly. I went from being able to understand bits and pieces of spanish to whole sentences by the end of the day. I didn't get any further than that though as I simply couldn't remember any more from that time in my life with any real level of clarity.
'I should get some books on other languages to study at some point, maybe hire a tutor.' I thought as I ate dinner.
I woke up the next morning and did my exercises before eating breakfast and heading into diagon alley. This time I went straight to flourish and blots and bought a few primers on spanish, french and russian before going to a potion shop and stocking up on wiggenweld then heading back to the pub and holing up in my room. I went through the two primers for spanish I bought fast since most of it was things that already resting in my mind but needed to be jogged to the forefront. I was confident that I could now hold a decent conversation in the language at the very least. Perhaps not as fluent as a regular speaker but good enough. I moved on the french and had to admit that after knowing both english and spanish picking up this language was not that hard.-
By the end of the day I was willing to bet I could somewhat follow a french conversation if the speakers weren't the sort that verbally regurgitated a lot of words all at once. Thanks to this I was confident that by the time the cooldown on my search function ended I would have at least two additional languages in the bag. I was right too as by the end of the second day I had mastered french with the same proficiency as spanish, just with less practical experience using it.-
I didn't start my studies of russian though on the third day but spent the day practicing with my wandless magic to try and diversify my bag of tricks when using it. Being able to lift and move things was plenty useful but easily countered as well so some extra methods were needed. I decided to cheat a bit and try and copy some abilities from other worlds that I knew from anime. My first shitty copy was for the chakra scalpel form Naruto. Unless my understanding was totally wrong this technique was literally just coating the palm or finger in an extremely sharp layer of energy that allows for invasive surgery without the patient bleeding to death.-
My attempt was basically just trying to put a sharp edge of magic on my hand that I could slash at the dummy. As it turned out not actually an easy thing to pull off, especially when you can't see if it's working without testing it. I am not proud to admit my hand really hurt from all the karate chops I put on the dummy that weren't actually working.-
I pulled it off kinda by trying to cast and hold a Diffindo through my hand but it was a pale imitation of the real thing from the anime. I wasn't too discouraged though as no one ever said that this was going to be easy or fast. The focus haki let me have for this helped a lot but I was still an amateur magic user so there was only so much progress I could force in such a small time.
