Chapter 23.1 — Clarifying Amon
I wanted to dedicate this chapter to clearing up a few important details about Amon, specifically, his First Sense of Creation ability.
This power is not something he trained for, nor was it granted through a spell or ritual.
It is one of the innate "gifts" born from his existence as a celestial–human hybrid—a natural byproduct of what he is.
Amon's First Sense of Creation allows him to "hear" and "sense" the emotional conflicts inside others, almost like catching the echo of someone's inner world.
To a limited degree, he can even perceive a person's inner voice, their private thoughts, doubts, and fears, though not with perfect clarity.
He has used this ability multiple times without realizing it.
When he sensed Rex's guilt and sadness, feeling the weight of emotions Rex never voiced aloud.
When he overheard the scientists' inner comments about Sera and Amy, their careless cruelty and quiet judgments.
This was first hinted at back in Chapter 16: Amon's Sadness.
But like all powers tied to emotion, this sense comes with a price.
As shown in Chapter 16, Amon can become overwhelmed by the emotions he absorbs. Being forced to feel the storm inside others, layered on top of his own feelings, can push him past his limit.
It was this very overload that led to his complete mental collapse… and why his personality shifted so sharply after Amy and Sera's deaths.
The ability didn't just let him sense emotions.
It made him drown in them.
Amon's Anger Empowerment
Before anything else, let's clarify how Amon's "anger empowerment" actually works.
This isn't part of his base strength. It's an augmented state—a surge that only activates under extreme emotional pressure.
Amon is still just a child: small, underfed, and physically weak. His natural strength reflects that reality. What makes him dangerous isn't muscle, it's how violently his celestial–human hybrid biology reacts when his emotions snap.
Unlike characters such as the Hulk or Asura, walking catastrophes even at rest, Amon's power only spikes when he's pushed past his limit.
His anger behaves like a trigger, unleashing bursts of celestial energy he normally cannot reach. It doesn't make him "naturally strong."
It makes him unstable, unpredictable, and terrifying when he truly breaks.
And that's exactly the point.
Amon's anger isn't a switch he flips. It's not a convenient power-up. It's a volatile, involuntary outburst, an early, incomplete expression of what he is.
Later in the story, he'll learn to regulate it, but right now? His power rises and falls with his emotions, not with skill or training.
This is augmented strength, not his foundation. It keeps him grounded while still hinting at the monstrous potential buried inside him.
Just like his First Sense of Creation, this ability has major weaknesses.
As we saw in his fight against James, raw power doesn't guarantee victory. Even with boosted strength, Amon was outmatched by James' hand-to-hand experience and martial arts mastery.
The empowerment can make Amon stronger, but never invincible.
This state is another one of his hybrid "gifts."
One reason I gave him this ability is because I wanted him to echo elements of Natsu.
If you didn't know: Natsu's flames are tied to his emotions, the angrier he gets, the hotter and more intense they become. In Fairy Tail, this is known as the "Flames of Emotion."
Amon has his own version of that idea.
Another thing I want to clarify is his shifting appearance when he uses Magic. Because his powers are tied so closely to emotion.
When he's filled with anger or hatred, his hair begins to stand up.
When he is overwhelmed with sadness, his pupils distort.
When he uses Attraction & Repulsion Magic, his eyes glow.
His magic doesn't just affect his surroundings. It warps his body, reflecting the emotional turmoil fueling it.
Now, speaking of his magic… let's get into that next.
What Is Attraction & Repulsion Magic?
Attraction & Repulsion Magic is a specialized branch of Spatial Magic that manipulates the tension and geometry of space to create controlled pulling and pushing forces.
It isn't pure Gravity Magic—its effects only resemble gravity because it alters distance, pressure, and spatial vectors on a micro level.
Think of it as weaponized spatial manipulation, a system built around force, not teleportation or movement.
This rare Caster Magic lets the user manipulate the spatial relationship between two points. By either compressing space (pulling) or expanding space (pushing), the caster can affect:
objects
people
energy
magical constructs
It is an advanced sub-discipline of Spatial Magic, not a variation of traditional Gravity Magic.
Space has two fundamental values:
distance and tension. This magic directly alters those values.
Attraction, compressing the space between two points
Repulsion, expanding the space between two points
From these simple principles come a variety of effects.
Pulling
Pushing
Flinging
Floating
Shockwaves (from rapid expansion of space)
All without requiring elemental matter or visible energy.
Gravity Magic manipulates a natural force already present in the world. Attraction & Repulsion Magic manipulates space itself—reshaping the structure that gravity operates within.
This is why its effects can look similar but behave fundamentally differently.
Applications of Attraction
Pull enemies toward the caster
Yank weapons out of opponents' hands
Drag projectiles or spells off-course
Fuse attracted materials to form temporary constructs (e.g., a large arm)
Applications of Repulsion
Blast enemies away with explosive force
Create spatial shockwaves
Propel yourself by pushing against space, air, or ground
Deflect spells or ricochet projectiles
Neutral Balance (Floating)
By stabilizing the tension of space, the user can suspend objects. or themselves, in place.
The full capabilities of this magic haven't been revealed yet because Amon only recently awakened as a wizard.
Right now, he can only use the simplest, most instinctual forms of the art.
Think of it like Gray Fullbuster when he first trained under Ur.
He could form basic ice
But he couldn't yet make weapons, cannons, or advanced constructs
Amon is in the same stage—raw potential, barely any control.
Another comparison: Erza Scarlet.
When she first awakened her magic in the Tower of Heaven, her power erupted from trauma and grief. She didn't understand it, she just reacted.
Amon awakened his magic under identical circumstances: losing Amy and Sera.
The emotional shock triggered his hybrid biology, unlocking the dormant spatial magic buried inside him.
A Note About Gray's Backstory
During Rex's flashback, the name Deliora was mentioned intentionally.
Deliora destroyed Gray's village and killed his parents—and this event occurred in X774, exactly two years before the current timeline of your story.
This subtle connection helps anchor Amon's story more tightly into the Fairy Tail timeline.
Don't expect Amon to be overpowered. If it isn't obvious by now, this is a weak-to-strong MC story.
I also want to clear something up about Rex. Early on, I didn't have a solid backstory for him. Originally, I planned to connect him to the Heartfilia family—specifically as the younger brother of Layla Heartfilia, Lucy's mother.
Layla Heartfilia, a Celestial Spirit Mage and a member of the Heartfilia Konzern, passed away in X777 at the age of 29 due to Magic Deficiency Disease, the same year the dragons vanished.
My reasoning for this early idea was simple.
• Rex's golden-blonde hair matched Layla and Lucy.
• It gave me a clean way to introduce Lucy into the story.
• Rex could've played a direct role in Lucy's decision to run away and become a wizard.
• And it would've tied into Celestial Spirit Magic, giving me another avenue to reintroduce Amon's mother later.
But I ultimately changed Rex's backstory to the current one.
So if any earlier chapters accidentally implied that Rex had been working with James for years, that's on me.
I started writing in May, and now we're in December. I'm still learning and teaching myself through trial and error. So yeah… sorry for any confusion, and thank you for sticking with it. I promise I'll keep improving.
As for the story, the Project Requiem arc is nearing its finale. If the pacing holds, we've got about 10–15 chapters left.
Here's what's coming.
• Rex goes up against James and Alex—starting as a 1v2 and shifting into a brutal Rex vs. Alexander showdown.
• At the same time, Amon's full backstory unfolds, revealing the truth behind his origins and what happened six months ago.
• We cut to the Celestial Spirit Realm to explore the hybrid race in more depth.
• Nyx faces off against a certain fox spirit.
• Amon's grandfather steps onto the stage.
• His bloodline is finally revealed.
• And then Amon fully awakens as a hybrid… and things get very personal with James.
See you all in the next chapter!
