"Although I'm not sure how many months it will take for Mr. Davis's journey to crawl to the Statue of Liberty to be completed, it is at least a way to see a hope of a solution."
Facing the reporters' eager provocation and goading, Lu Ke was calm and sincere, giving his honest opinion and even expanding on it. It was what you would call... a friendly suggestion.
"Fortunately, we are in an age of advanced networks, and we have enough time and patience. Perhaps Mr. Davis could open a personal channel on YouTube to livestream the entire process of fulfilling his promise. Whether it takes one month or one year, Mr. Davis will persevere and show today's young people how the older generation keeps their promises and sticks to their word! This is a role model we should all learn from."
The words were as gentle as a spring breeze, and his face was full of smiles. The wording was clever: it was not "carrying out a punishment," but "fulfilling a promise." There was no aggression; on the contrary, he offered a lot of flattery, as if Charles was not an enemy but a respected elder, and Lu Ke was looking forward to the elder setting an example for the new generation.
The reporters couldn't be sure if Charles would be happy to be called an "elder," but they were sure that after all these pleasantries, Charles was in a tough spot. If Charles still planned to renege on the bet, he would become a man everybody hates for the rest of the season. He might not be shouted at by everyone, but he would be the center of attention everywhere he went.
This was a subtle attack that killed without a trace. It also made Charles swallow his pride and suffer in silence. Now, Lu Ke had not only thrown the ball to Charles, but he had also set up the stage and lights. With all eyes on him, it was time for Charles to perform. The show was only going to get better from here! The reporters all started to stir. The bombshell they had been waiting for was finally here, and they couldn't wait to see Charles's reaction. Anyway, they weren't the ones in trouble.
However, Jay, who was standing in the crowd, inexplicably shivered. There was a look of pity in his eyes. He had a feeling that Charles Davis's reputation was about to be ruined. Lu Ke was definitely not someone to be messed with. He wouldn't harm others unless they harmed him, but if they did, all bets were off.
The game between the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Giants ended in week ten of the regular season, and it ended in a dramatic way. The twists and turns at the end of the game were the biggest highlight of the season so far. Many commentators even insisted that even though the season wasn't over yet, this game would undoubtedly have a place among the best games of the season.
The zero-second drive, in particular, was full of unexpected events. After several repetitions, Lu Ke still didn't hold back. His accurate, bold judgment and decisive execution secured the victory. Even without the ups and downs of the zero-second drive, the game was full of variables.
The first half was completely the 49ers' show. They took a huge lead and had a significant advantage. But an unexpected injury led to a stalemate, and then the Giants entered their usual comeback mode. Just as everyone thought the script would end in Eli Manning's style, Lu Ke successfully rewrote the ending. It was breathtaking; this was truly breathtaking!
The unpredictable direction of the game and the even more unpredictable outcome, with a dramatic script, gave every fan a truly exciting matchup. What's more, in this game, both quarterbacks, Lu Ke and Manning, delivered performances of a high standard, adding countless highlights to the game. Manning completed 31 of 45 passes for 355 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions, with a quarterback rating of 115.2 and a PFF rating of 1.1. Lu Ke completed 32 of 42 passes for 333 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions, with a quarterback rating of 122.4 and a PFF rating of 1.4.
Both quarterbacks delivered above-average performances. Even Manning, who was once again plagued by a fatal interception error, had a brilliant overall performance. His quarterback rating and PFF rating both set new season highs and were on par with Lu Ke's. It was just like the game itself: a close battle that was only decided at the very end. But there's no harm without comparison, and Lu Ke's amazing performance was still one of the biggest highlights of the week.
After the game, the calls for Lu Ke to compete with Aaron Rodgers for the regular season MVP began to grow. It wasn't just about the quarterback rating; it was about his overall stability and excellent performance. It's worth mentioning that up to week ten of the regular season, Lu Ke had thrown thirty-one touchdowns with only two interceptions. For any quarterback, this is an astonishing record, even for the four elite quarterbacks. Of course, this doesn't mean Lu Ke is on par with an elite quarterback, but his outstanding performance this season is amazing and shows great potential.
So, can Lu Ke compete for the regular season MVP? It's a possibility. But can Lu Ke become a regular season MVP candidate? Absolutely. In the entire league, Lu Ke and Rodgers have emerged as the two most stable and outstanding quarterbacks this season. Their excellent performance is remarkable. This is truly incredible, and it makes people think of Kurt Warner's first season.
At the same time, the 49ers' chances in the Super Bowl race are also gradually increasing. Even if they can't become favorites, they have become a competitor that can't be ignored. The entire regular season landscape has taken on a new look, which is both startling and exciting. Compared to the three-horse race in the AFC, the blossoming and competing schools of thought in the NFC are always full of more surprises.
However, besides the game and Lu Ke, there was another news story from this game that was even more popular, sensational, and anxious, stealing all the headlines. Not just from the NFL, but also from other professional sports leagues and other industries: Charles Davis was in trouble.
This was a nightmare, a nightmare he couldn't wake up from. Charles didn't know how any of this had happened, or how he had fallen to this point. He kept thinking it over and over but still couldn't figure it out. It was all because of that damn Lu Ke, all because of that cursed Lu Ke! If it weren't for that guy, how could he be the man everybody hates, and how could every minute he spent in the open be so torturous?
"Hey, Charles, when are you going to start your crawling plan?" "Hohoho, Charles, the Great Wall or the Statue of Liberty? Have you decided?" "When are you starting your YouTube channel? My friends and I are very interested." "Charles, do you still think that Chinese quarterback is a useless player who can't pass?" "Hey! Hey! I'm talking to you, Charles Davis, hey, you! Do you still think that undrafted rookie can't pass? Or is this discrimination against Asians? Stop, stop, let's have a good talk! Damn it! I'll knock you out! Run, run faster! Or I'll show you what Asian power is! You damn rat!"
This was just the tip of the iceberg. As soon as he stepped onto the street, the passersby all seemed to be watching him, and the noisy attention was relentless. This was a disaster, a complete and utter disaster! This was Los Angeles. A few weeks ago, no one in Los Angeles cared about football. In this city, Hollywood was the absolute ruler, and for sports, all the stars gathered at the Los Angeles Lakers' Staples Center. Football? That was a barbarian's game. No one cared.
Now, people were all talking about football as if they had gone crazy. Damn it! They didn't even know if a football was round or flat, so what were they talking about? They didn't care about football, the outcome of the game, or the 49ers; they were just curious about the bet, curious about the gossip, and looking forward to seeing a public figure make a fool of himself. That was all. Damn the world of fame! The cursed world of fame! The place that had given Charles countless accolades was now a place he just wanted to burn down.
Even just imagining it in his mind, Charles wanted to disappear completely. And now, all the eyes on the street were focused on him. In a daze, he had a misconception that "the whole world was watching him." The sharp and taunting stares made him feel miserable, as if every inch of his skin was burning and would be burned to ashes in an instant.
"Damn it!"
Charles cursed again and quickly entered the ESPN office building, hurrying to hide himself. But the nightmare was not over. Even the security guard at the door and the cleaning lady who passed by, their seemingly absent stares were like hooks, piercing his skin and pulling outward. Shame, pain, humiliation, and anger. All the emotions were burning in his chest, and they wouldn't stop.
Just as Charles thought the nightmare would come to a temporary end after he entered the studio, he realized this was the ultimate challenge. In comparison, the stares and words he had just endured were just a gentle prelude. When Charles pushed open the studio door, everyone instantly stopped what they were doing. All sounds disappeared. All eyes turned to him, densely focused on Charles. All sorts of emotions were hidden within their gazes as they looked him up and down. The eager anticipation completely shattered Charles's bottom line. Even the last shred of his dignity had disappeared.
