Chapter 6 - Chapter 5: The Lie at Home

ZACK POV:

"Selena!"

She collapsed in my arms like a puppet with cut strings.

The red glow vanished. Her body cold, unmoving.

People screamed. Phones flashed. Music stopped.

None of it mattered.

I carried her out without thinking.

---

The drive to her house felt endless. I kept checking the mirror. Still unconscious.

When I got to her door, I knocked like my life depended on it.

Her mom opened it—and froze.

Not in shock. Not in fear.

In recognition.

"She fainted," I said. "At prom. Her eyes—something happened."

She didn't ask questions. Just nodded.

"Bring her in."

---

Inside, everything felt... heavy.

"Oh great," a voice snapped.

Her sister.

Tall, cold, and cruel. Two years older, twice as mean.

She glared at Selena, then at me.

"Always the center of attention. Must be nice to fake fainting and ruin everything."

"Can you shut up?" I snapped.

Their mom stepped in. "Out. Now."

The sister rolled her eyes and left, muttering, "Drama queen."

---

I laid Selena on the couch.

"She's still freezing," I muttered.

Her mom touched her hair. Then paused.

She gently pulled back Selena's dress strap and stared.

"What is that?" I asked.

There on her collarbone was a glowing mark—black laced with red. A crescent moon tangled in vines.

Her dad walked in, saw it, and went pale.

"No…" he whispered. "She has the mark."

Her mom nodded. "It's happening."

"What do you mean 'mark'?" I asked. "What's happening to her?"

They didn't look at me.

Her dad just said, "She's one of them now."

And that's when I realized...

Selena wasn't just changing.

She was becoming something else entirely.

---

> Glowing tattoo. Secret past. Vampire bloodline.

Oh, and a sister who clearly wants her dead 😩

What do you think her parents are hiding? What would you do if you saw that mark?

Drop your theories — I'm reading all of them 🩸

— Your mysterious bestie 🦇
