Synopsis
UNITED BY DESIGN Theme; "......Love vrs Power in the business world....'' By Fantasy bookshelves PROLOGUE The city never slept, its concrete heartbeat pulsating through the veins of steel and glass skyscrapers. Among them, the towering spire of Harrison & Co. pierced the night sky, a monument to ambition and power. In a penthouse office, bathed in the soft glow of luminescent screens and the distant hum of the city, two people stood poised on the precipice of destiny. Their eyes locked in a silent challenge, the air thick with unspoken rivalry. Avery Winters, the sharp-jawed CEO of Winters Inc., gazed out the window, her piercing green eyes reflecting the glittering lights of the city. Her raven-black hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall of night, and her tailored suit seemed to be an extension of her formidable presence. Across from her, Julian Harrison, the enigmatic heir to Harrison & Co., leaned against the polished mahogany desk, his arms crossed over his chest. His piercing blue eyes seemed to bore into Avery's very soul, as if daring her to make the next move. The tension between them was palpable, a living, breathing entity that seemed to pulse with its own rhythm. This was a battle of titans, two corporate giants locked in a struggle for dominance. And yet, amidst the cutthroat world of high-stakes business, a whispered rumor began to circulate – a rumor that would change the course of their lives forever. The sound of heels clicking on the marble floor broke the silence as Avery turned to face Julian. "You know why I've come here tonight, Julian," she said, her voice low and husky. Julian's smile was a slow, calculated curve of his lips. "I'm sure you're here to discuss the merger, Avery. But I think we both know that's not the real reason." Avery's eyes flashed with a hint of annoyance, but she remained composed. "The merger is crucial to our companies' survival. We need to work together if we want to stay ahead of the competition." Julian pushed off from the desk, his movements fluid and confident. "I agree. But I think we can do better than just a merger, Avery. I think we can make a statement. A union that would shake the very foundations of the business world." Avery's eyes narrowed, her mind racing with the implications. "What kind of union?" Julian's smile grew wider, his eyes glinting with amusement. "A union of marriage, Avery. A union that would unite our companies and secure our positions as the top dogs in the industry." The room seemed to shrink, the air thickening with tension as Avery's eyes locked onto Julian's. She knew exactly what he was proposing – a marriage of convenience, a strategic alliance that would bind their companies together forever. Avery raised an eyebrow, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "So, Julian, you're proposing a marriage of convenience? How romantic. I'm sure the honeymoon suite at the Ritz-Carlton will be thrilled to hear that our love is purely platonic." Julian's lips twitched, and he let out a low chuckle. "You're impossible, Avery. But I like that about you." Avery grinned, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Hey, someone's got to keep you on your toes, Harrison. And besides, I'm not sure I'm ready to trade in my freedom for a lifetime of tolerating your ego." Julian laughed, the sound deep and rich. "My ego? You're one to talk, Winters. You're like a force of nature – unpredictable and potentially deadly." Avery winked. "That's what makes me so lovable, right?" As they bantered back and forth, the tension between them was palpable, but it was laced with a thread of attraction that neither of them was willing to acknowledge. And then, Julian dropped the bombshell. "Avery, I need you to marry me. Not just for the companies, but for my grandmother's trust fund. If we don't get married within the next six months, the entire Harrison empire will be dissolved." Avery's eyes widened in surprise, and she let out a low whistle.

Chapter 1 - chapter 1 &2

Avery Winters sat at her desk, staring at the stack of papers in front of her. Her company, Winters Inc., was facing serious problems - shareholders were breathing down her neck, demanding better profits, and her department heads were at each other's throats.

"Rachel, what's the latest on the quarterly reports?" Avery asked her assistant, who walked in with a cup of coffee.

"It's not looking good, Avery. The shareholders are going to be furious. We're projecting a significant loss this quarter," Rachel replied, her voice laced with concern.

Avery sighed, rubbing her temples. "I know. I've been going over the numbers all morning. We need to come up with a plan to turn things around, and fast."

"I've been going over the departmental reports, and it seems like the marketing team is having trouble meeting their targets. They're blaming the sales team for not providing enough leads," Rachel said, handing Avery a folder full of papers.

Avery scanned the documents, her eyes narrowing. "This is ridiculous. We need to get everyone on the same page. Schedule a meeting with all department heads for this afternoon. We'll get to the bottom of this and figure out a solution."

Rachel nodded, making a note on her pad. "I'll set it up. But, Avery, you also need to prepare for the shareholder meeting tomorrow. They're not going to be happy about the quarterly reports."

Avery grimaced. "I know. I'll go over the presentation one more time. Make sure everything is perfect."

Just then, Avery's phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen and saw Julian Harrison's name flashing.

"Avery Winters," she answered, her voice professional.

"Good morning, Avery. I hope I'm not interrupting anything important. I was thinking we should meet to discuss our... partnership," Julian said, his voice smooth as silk.

Avery raised an eyebrow. "Partnership?" she repeated, her tone neutral.

"Yes, the merger. I think it's time we discussed the details. How about meeting at the penthouse office today?" Julian suggested.

Avery hesitated for a moment before responding. "Fine. I'll be there."

As she hung up the phone, Rachel looked at her curiously. "Everything okay, Avery?"

Avery nodded. "I have a meeting with someone. Wish me luck."

*Meeting Room*

The conference room was packed with shareholders, all eager to express their dissatisfaction with the company's performance.

"I'm telling you, Avery, this is a disaster," one shareholder said, his voice loud and angry. "We need to see some serious changes around here."

"I understand your concerns," Avery replied calmly. "We're working hard to turn things around. But I need your support to make it happen."

Another shareholder stood up. "Support? You want our support? You need to show us some results. We're not investors, we're stakeholders. We deserve better."

Avery listened patiently, her expression composed. She knew she had to navigate this meeting carefully, or risk losing the trust of her shareholders.

Meanwhile, the department heads were having their own meeting, voicing their complaints and frustrations.

"This is ridiculous," the marketing head said. "We're being blamed for everything. It's not our fault the sales team can't close deals."

"I agree," the sales head replied. "We're working hard to meet our targets. But the marketing team needs to provide us with better leads."

Avery walked into the meeting room, her presence commanding attention. "Let's focus on finding solutions, not placing blame. We need to work together to turn this company around." She silent their noise, already tired of complaints

As the meeting with the department heads came to a close, Avery felt a sense of determination wash over her. She knew that she had to make some tough decisions, but she was ready to do whatever it took to save Winters Inc.

"Alright, let's summarize the key points," Avery said, her eyes scanning the room. "We need to improve communication between departments, streamline our processes, and find ways to increase revenue. I want to see a plan of action from each of you by the end of the week."

The department heads nodded, some looking more confident than others. Avery knew that it wouldn't be easy, but she was determined to make it work.

As the meeting adjourned, Avery turned to Rachel. "I need to get ready for the shareholder meeting tomorrow. Can you make sure everything is in order?"

Rachel nodded. "Already on it, Avery. I've reviewed the presentation and made some notes. I'll go over it with you before the meeting."

Avery smiled, grateful for her assistant's diligence. "Thanks, Rachel. You're a lifesaver."

With Rachel's help, Avery spent the rest of the day reviewing the presentation and preparing for the shareholder meeting. She knew that it wouldn't be an easy conversation, but she was determined to convince them that she had a plan to turn the company around.

As she worked, Avery's phone buzzed with messages from her team, all of whom were working hard to meet the challenges ahead. Avery felt a sense of pride and gratitude towards her team. Together, she knew they could overcome anything.

Just then, Rachel walked in with a cup of coffee. "Avery, you need to take a break. You've been working non-stop for hours."

Avery smiled, taking the cup from Rachel. "Thanks, Rachel. I think I will take a short break. But then I need to get back to work. I have a meeting with Julian Harrison later."

Rachel raised an eyebrow. "The Julian Harrison? What's that about?"

Avery hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. "Let's just say it's a business meeting. Nothing to worry about."

Rachel nodded, but Avery could tell she was curious. Avery made a mental note to fill Rachel in on the details later.

"It getting frustrating, but what could Julian have to offer'' she thoughts.

Julian's smile faltered for a moment before he regained his composure. "Maybe a little bit of both?"

Avery's laughter was like music, rich and infectious. "Okay, Harrison. You've got my attention. But don't expect me to go all mushy on you just because we're getting married. I'll still be the one running the show around here."

Julian's eyes crinkled at the corners as he smiled. "I wouldn't have it any other way, Winters." "I will think about that'
