I was sitting under the moonlight, holding my glass.
Suddenly, the phone rang.
I looked at the screen — it was Joe, my childhood best friend. His voice sounded happy but nervous at the same time.
"What happened?" I asked.
"I'm proposing to my love today," he said.
"What? When?" I replied in a sad voice.
"Just now."
"What did she say?"
"Hmmm… guess what? She said YES!" he shouted with joy.
"Okay… bye. She's waiting for me. See you in the morning," he said before hanging up.
I felt my chest tighten. I had secretly loved him for a long time. My grip loosened, and the glass slipped from my hand, shattering. Blood trickled from my palm.
Then… I heard footsteps. Slow. Approaching.
A cold hand touched my hair softly.
"How are you?" I whispered.
My hands were shaking.
"Don't turn around," a deep voice said. "If you turn your head, I'll kill you."
Again, I asked, "How are you?"
He laughed loudly. "Don't worry… your blood attracted me. That's why I came. Today… you become my mate."
"What? Why me? Are you a ghost, a devil… or a vampire?" I asked awkwardly.
He gently touched my hair again and said, "Don't cry. I'll always be with you."

I heard more footsteps.
"Why are you here alone? What happened? Why is your hand full of blood?" my brother Alex asked as he approached.
"I'm fine. The glass just broke," I lied.
Inside, I was torn. Should I tell him about that strange person? Was he even real?
I was confused… yet I couldn't deny that a part of me enjoyed it.
