Chapter 2 - The Death Games

This time, it is somewhat different.

My eyelids feel heavy, sealed shut, and my body lies against the ground.

I can't open my eyes, but voices cut through the darkness.

"What do we do with him?"A nervous high-pitched voice questions.

"We stay alive by killing one of us. Right now, he's the easiest target,"a rough voice replies, steady and grim.

"You really want to follow orders from people who treat us like toys?"The high-pitched voice is desperate.

"We have no choice. Better to get rid of someone unconscious than awake. He won't even know he's dead."The rough voice drops lower.

Silence, the high-pitched one doesn't respond.

I realize I can't move, my body is paralyzed.

Summoning what little strength I have, I curl my fingers into a fist. My long nails pierce my palm, breaking the skin. Warm blood wells up in the center.

Sensation creeps back.

My eyes open.

A padded white ceiling fills my vision.

I lift my head. Eight people are spread across the room, watching me.

Two are directly in front of me, the ones who debated ending my life.

They should have done it.

The room is padded white on all sides, like an asylum cell. I push myself against the soft wall, scanning the space. A steel door sits at the front, cameras watch from each corner, and a speaker that hangs from the left wall.

No one approaches. Everyone keeps their distance, wary and tense.

From what I overheard, we've been taken by some freaks to play death games for their own entertainment.

It likely took a lot of money to set this up. Which means there's probably an audience, funding the people running this show.

Since I'm still breathing, this must be the first round.

The objective of the first round seems to be eliminating someone from the group of eight.

I glance around the room. Some are shaking. Others cry quietly.

From what I can tell, they won't last. They're too weak to kill anyone.

Wouldn't it be better if I killed them all now, so none of them would have to bear the weight of doing it themselves?

The corner of my lips curls.

In a way… I'd be doing them a favor.
