Arcruge City is as what I had seen before but a more crowded than ever and more busier than the bees.
As I walked along, my fear of attracting attention by being a weirdo dissipated when I noticed nobody cared about what the other person was doing at all. Which was a relief and kind of scary at the same time.
What if someone was dying? What then?
Regardless, I shook my head and followed the invisible to humans, glowing and leading me to my pearl.
Urgency gripped me as thoughts of facing enemies without it surfaced into my mind. Sweat broke out and trickles down my face. I wiped it away and kept walking.
Don't be afraid, Esme. It's going to me fine. I told myself that again and again but then my heart dropped as I stopped in front of a huge building marked by a word at the top. "Evander".
No. Calm down. My pearl wouldn't be with an Evander. Evanders are one of the most powerful and influential people of the land, specially in here, Crosse Continent, their headquarters.
They are an old money people. Generatipns of generations of people have come and gone from this family, heading and expanding their business empire.
I know because I have been alive for quite a few generations of theirs. But my ancestors, have seen the start of this family and they have told me they are dangerous.
All humans are but the more power they have. The more dangerous they are. Or unless they have lost their minds. Even then. It's the worst if a human has got both.
But that's none of my business. My business is to find the person, who works here, and get my pearl back.
My mouth pursed into a line. Getting my pearl back won't be a danger to human lives but it will put them in a small coma so that their body recovers from not having a mermaid's pearl.
My eyes took in the security guards standing right outside the entrance. I cannot enter like this. They will throw me out on my ass. I can't use illusion. I haven't used magic for a long time, and it touches the line of intermediate magic.
Gritting my teeth, I finally decide to stay and wait for the people working to come out. So, I went to an alley beside a cafe, two blocks away from the company building, and waited in the shadows.
It's morning now. But I have no choice but to wait this long. I need my pearl back. At all costs.
As so, while keeping an eye on the sphere of light flowing mid air in front of the building, I studied the humans. Their sense of clothing has changed. Their phones now more advanced than I thought possible.
Humans may not have magical powers or immortality, they do have intelligence to create amazing things and things which can destroy they themselves.....
Time passed, and I, who went to sit a little deeper into the alley to rest my legs, and back to standing and peeking, finally found relief when people started to trickle out of the building.
The sun set beneath the horizon, orange, red hues colouring the sky soon turned purplish and pink and then finally dark dark blue. The stars are no more there.
Strange. There used to be more stars visible in the sky ten years ago. It's a pity I can only see one, barely.
My gaze falls back at the entrance, so so many people- I have seen so many people come out but not the one I am looking for.
Could it really be an Evander....? There is no way. The moon shone and then a few men in suits went inside. Four to be exact. All handsome and rich men. I can tell.
Tapping my foot, I turn to go back and sit again and finally when my feet were getting a little rest, I heard laughter. So, I stood on my feet and rushed to the entrance of the alley.
The men came out. Five this time. And the sphere of light moved and hovered over one man's head. The man who hadn't entered. The man I had been waiting for.
He is gorgeous. And then, I run. I dash and jump at him.
