I was a freshman at a high school a place where dreams are destroyed, and hopes are made. I had just received admission to St. Dominic's.
My family dropped me off at school. We shared a small prayer before they left the school premises.
After the prayer, I promised them I would be a good girl, get good grades, graduate after five years, get admitted into an engineering university, and become an aircraft engineer. I wasn't wrong ,it's okay to make promises, but it's wrong to break them.
My name is Zoe.
A beautiful, chocolate-skinned African girl with long afro hair that everyone admires and wishes they had. I have a medium-sized body with slight curves. I can't say I'm the most beautiful girl in the school, but I also can't say there's anyone more beautiful than me.
I have white teeth, soft bluish eyes, and one dimple on my right cheek. I've never been a fan of long dresses. My school uniform was the perfect size not too tight, not too loose. I wore long socks, brown school shoes, and carried my backpack.
On my first day, I was late.I had to check in at the reception for my receipt and school ID. Unfortunately, I was the last person to enter the assembly hall. Since it was opening day, everyone was already inside, including the teachers and the room was silent.
The silence was deadly.
I thought I was the only one there. It was as quiet as a graveyard. Not even a single breath could be heard from outside.
I was scared.
What if they scolded me for being late on my first day? What if I got embarrassed in front of everyone?
Woooh...
I gathered my confidence. I was ready for whatever came.
As I stepped into the hall, I could hear the echo of my footsteps as I walked between the seated students, searching for an empty chair.
Then suddenly ,everyone started screaming, shouting, and clapping their hands.
I froze. I was too shy. I wanted to cry.
Were they cheering at me?
Or was it for someone else?
I wanted to look back, but I couldn't.
Luckily, I found a chair and sat down. As I lifted my eyes that's when my eyes met his.
I didn't know who he was... but I knew in that moment: everyone had been cheering for him.
After assembly, we were dismissed and told to find our classrooms. I climbed the stairs, looking for Class A1.1. Since I had good grades, I was placed in the best class.
Then boom!Our eyes collided again.
He was walking down the stairs with his girlfriend ,the head girl of our school. Her blazer fit perfectly. She was light-skinned, beautiful, and elegant. Her long blonde braids swung gently behind her. From the way she spoke, you could tell this girl had never struggled a day in her life.
I greeted her with a polite "Good morning," and she smiled lightly as she showed me where my class was.
I entered the classroom and chose a seat in the front row, near the window.
I was ready to study.
After a few lessons in the morning, we went for breakfast in the school dining hall. Since it was my first time in a completely new place, I didn't feel like eating. I just sat quietly.
After break, on my way back to class—he approached me.
A good-looking, tall, charismatic boy with white teeth and a warm, genuine smile.Bro is a 10/10.
Now I truly understood why everyone had screamed and cheered when he entered the assembly hall.
"Hello, my name is Star, and you are...?" he asked, smiling.
I smiled back and told him my name.
He winked and walked away.
My heart started racing. I thought I was going to die. He was the first boy to ever make my heart beat like that.
I stood there, smiling like some crazy fool.
Then the siren rang for the next lesson and snapped me out of it.
I had to run to class.
My first heartbeat.
My last heartbeat.
