Chapter 15 - Chapter 15 – The First Night

Khalid'sPOV

Wow… so behind the polished princess of the Amari family is a childish, cute girl.

But seriously—how could she even think I'm a mafia boss? I mean, sure, my wealth isn't exactly easy to explain, but that doesn't make me a criminal. I'll find the right moment to tell her the truth.

Damn, I love her. And this time, I'm sure of it. She must be mine.

It's night already—my first real night with Sofia.

Don't be surprised. We usually sleep in separate rooms. She's always asleep before I get back from work, so yes… this is my first time sharing a night with her. And to make sure there's no escape, I had all the other rooms in the villa left unfurnished—except the master bedroom.

I was in the bathroom, steam curling around me, when Sofia entered. Judging by the way she started mumbling to herself, she clearly didn't know I was inside.

"I can't believe Khalid is that warm. That iceberg could actually be fun," she giggled softly. Then she said it—one word that made my jaw tighten.

"Well, my mafia boss of a husband is not as bad as I thought."

I exhaled slowly, controlling the spark of irritation. It wasn't her fault. She didn't know my source of income.

I stepped out of the bathroom, towel around my waist, and the way her eyes widened… priceless.

Damn. She was breathtaking. She wore a short silk nightgown that barely reached mid-thigh, the smooth fabric clinging in all the right places. My Adam's apple bobbed.

Her hands flew to grab a pillow, hugging it to her chest in an attempt to cover up. Her face turned crimson.

"Why are you here?" she stammered.

I smiled. "We're a legally married couple."

"There are many rooms in this villa," she shot back.

"This villa is newly constructed," I said casually, stepping closer, "and many rooms are still under construction."

Her lips parted, probably to argue again, but I was already close enough to see every flutter of her lashes. She backed up until her knees hit the edge of the bed.

I placed one hand on the pillow she was holding, lowering it just enough to see her startled eyes clearly.

"You talk too much, Mrs. Voss," I murmured, before leaning in.

Our lips met—soft at first, almost hesitant, then deeper as I cupped her cheek. She gasped, and I felt the heat from her breath. My other hand slid to her waist, but I stopped myself there.

This was enough for tonight.

I pulled back, brushing a thumb over her cheek. "Good night, Sofia."

She blinked at me, still catching her breath, as I lay down beside her.

It took a while for her to relax, but soon her breathing evened out. I smiled to myself in the dark. Tonight, we took the first step.

Sofia'sPOV

If anyone had told me this morning that I'd end up sharing a bed with Khalid tonight, I would've laughed. Or choked on my mango juice. Possibly both.

Yet here I was… in the master bedroom… with him.

I hadn't even realized he was in the bathroom when I walked in. Which, in my defense, is not my fault. Normal people give warning coughs or jingling sounds when they're about to appear half-naked in front of you.

But no, not Khalid. He just emerged, all calm and collected, like some smug hero in a romance drama—complete with a towel around his waist and that infuriatingly confident look in his eyes.

My brain short-circuited. The only logical reaction was to grab a pillow and hold it like a shield. Yes, I'm aware this made me look ridiculous, but self-preservation comes before dignity.

When he told me the whole "villa under construction" excuse, I wanted to roll my eyes so hard they'd get stuck. The man had definitely planned this.

And then… he kissed me.

It wasn't our first kiss—far from it. The first one had been wild, unplanned, and life-changing. This one… was different. Slower. Intentional. Like he was claiming the space between us, piece by piece.

By the time he pulled back, I was pretty sure my heart was auditioning for a rock band inside my chest.

"Good night, Sofia," he'd said, like he hadn't just turned my entire nervous system into melted chocolate.

I lay there in the dark, very aware of the warmth radiating from him beside me. My thoughts were loud and ridiculous. Don't move. Don't make it weird. Don't—

He shifted slightly, and I froze.

…Okay. Too late. Definitely weird.

But eventually, the rhythm of the waves outside mixed with his steady breathing, and my own heartbeat slowed. My eyes drifted shut.

Somehow, sharing a bed with Khalid didn't feel as dangerous as I'd imagined.

It felt… right.
