Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 Haruto's dairy

14 Jan 2009

What a troublesome day.

I woke up late, but luckily my big sister prepared breakfast and packed my lunchbox. I think my joke went too far, though I didn't say anything wrong. She's already at the age for marriage. Her 23rd birthday is coming up next month; we should start planning something for her. If I could somehow find out what kind of man she likes, then with Takumi and Ayana's help, we could arrange a blind date for her. But her personality is odd—she's a workaholic. I understand she's working two different jobs to support us. She knows how expensive it is to raise a child, but I've saved enough. Plus, with the money Uncle gave me and my own savings, we can last at least another three years. Still, I need to be careful and find another source of income.

Oh shoot, I forgot to ask when Uncle Kaito is leaving for Tokyo. He's helped me a lot; at least I want to help him as much as I can before he goes. I'll ask him tomorrow.

Takumi gave me a new manga called "The World After the Apocalypse." I didn't expect much since there are so many manga out there with strong heroes, dragons as pets, and elves as girlfriends. Most artists turn shonen into harem stories—fools, they don't understand their readers. Thankfully, there's at least a small number trying their best: "One Piece," "Dragon Ball," "Naruto," etc. But as a reader, I have to wait half a year for the next volume. It's tough.

I read the manga, and after a few pages, I was hooked—I didn't even notice the time passing until it ended. There's a new concept of power, and new creatures: goblins, orcs, ogres, undead, mutants, and more. I never thought a skeleton could look more terrifying than modern villains. The drawings are flawless, almost realistic. Who would have thought using a skeleton would make such a good nemesis?

The writer is a genius—to come up with something new takes a lot of thinking and knowledge. When was the last time I felt this excited? I think it was last year when Takumi dragged me to see "Iron Man." It's been so long since I felt like this.

Anyway, tomorrow after school, I'll hang out and enjoy some time with my family. It will be a great surprise for them. I have enough money to spend—no need to be stingy. I'll buy what they like, and for the youngest, I'll give her a large teddy bear; she'll be overjoyed. Planning ahead is good. I'll need to tell Sister, so she can come home early and dress up the kids. Now that everything's settled, I should go to sleep—tomorrow is a big day for me.
