Chapter 2 - System Part 1

'What's going on? Why can't I see anything?'

Being stuck in complete darkness was even worse than not being able to move.

And the scariest part? I might be stuck here forever.

[DING!]

A glowing red screen popped up in front of me: semi-transparent, kind of futuristic, and way too bright for the pitch-black void I was floating in.

[System loading]

'Jackpot!' If I had a body right now, I would be breakdancing like a maniac.

This was pretty much the two biggest dreams for someone like me. Being reborn and getting a super overpowered system.

'I'm ready! Give me the Dragon System so I can dominate this world with overwhelming power,'

'No wait... give me the Monarch System! I want to control shadows and summon an endless army!'

Just thinking about what kind of awesome system I might get was making me restless.

[Analyzing Host: Aptitude, Personality, Skills, Preferences, Mental State...]

Oh great. Now it was evaluating me. Just perfect. My chances of getting an overpowered system probably just dropped to zero.

I could practically hear it sighing.

Trash stats.

Questionable morals.

Horny 99% of the time.

Mentally unstable. Proceeding anyway.

Bracing for disappointment. I waited for it to finish loading my fate.

[Host has unlocked the Ultimate Controller System]

[Initial skill: Mind Control (Basic)]

I got stuck with the villain starter pack?! How did it come up with this after checking my aptitude? I was kidding when I said I was 99% horny all the time—it was more like 98%!

'So I'm destined to become evil, huh?'

Let's be real. Most main characters who get mind control powers turn into total sadist pretty quickly.

This wasn't me… The system had already sunk its claws in, feeding me wicked abilities .

"Status," I commanded, pushing my moral crisis to the side. I had more important things to worry about right now.

[Name: Axel Johnson]

[Rank : Lower Being]

[Class : Controller]

[Skill : Mind Control (Basic)]

Wait. That's it?

Where are my stats? My attributes? The detailed breakdown with numbers and cool-looking bars? Isn't that basic system 101?

How was I supposed to min-max my way to greatness without any numbers to obsess over?

Just as I was about to open my mouth and give the system a proper scolding for its awful design, I was suddenly yanked out of the darkness.

Next thing I knew, I was back in the hospital bed. No one was around. Looked like I had been out for a long time.

Tried moving my hand first, but something was off.

'Damn it,' I sneered internally.

Not only was the system lazy with details, it also forgot the bare minimum: healing me.

'Okay… calm down.'

At least the skill was still there. And I could finally talk now.

I just had to play it smart: use my head, plan carefully, and pray that someday I would unlock a skill that could actually get me out of this damn bed.

One step at a time... or, well… zero steps for now, but that was the idea.

If there was any upside to all this, it was how perfectly the system matched my interests.

I never studied it formally, but I spent most of my time reading about psychology, body language, nonverbal cues, and detective novels—when I wasn't watching anime, of course.

Anything that helped me understand how people think and act.

Why?

Feeling sympathy or empathy never came easy to me. Doctors said it was a disorder. But I studied enough to fake being normal—well, mostly.

DING!
