Chapter 4 - First recruit

Doing as he said I entered into a vast space filled with training dummies, sparring matches, and weights. A single man stood on one side of the middle sparing square, eight men with longswords held in guard positions pointing at the man stood in the other. Within just thirty seconds the eight of them lay broken and bruised, as the six five red head stood over them. I could barely see what happened, yet it didn't surprise me. This was one of the hero's companions after all.

"Staff sergeant George, come here will ya." I wave at him.

He looked at me with a halfhearted glare. "Vector!"

"That's Captain Vector to you."

Walking up to me he looked like he had a nasty realization.

"Are you drunk?" He desperately asked.

"Not even a drop. In fact, I think we should talk about our mission over a drink."

"You do not have the authority to command me even if you are a captain." He shot out.

"If you're implying, you're not under me, I beg to differ." Handing him the note from Rodrick, he reads it with a frown. "I think the crown prince would be more than happy to put a sergeant who hasn't proved himself in battle under my command."

"If you think that's the case, talk to first lieutenant Bia, I'm sure he would love to discuss this with you about this."

My face stiffened at those words, well not the main threat, Bia and his men are a big enemy in the first quarter of the book. His brilliant tactics allowed him to become the youngest general in Devil Kingdom's history. But Vector's pride wouldn't allow me to be rejected

"And where is this Bia?"

A stiff but light voice speaks, "I'm right behind you."

I turn around to see a man on the shorter side, his black hair peeks through the gaps of his military hat, his stunning green eyes send a shiver down my spine, and over all light but muscular frame made him look like he could be an acrobat. Two medals line his shirt, one a medal of sacrifice, showing an image of a man missing an arm, the other is a standard gold medal given to anyone who fought the monster evasion two years ago.

"Oh, well, I need one of your men for a mission given by the crown prince himself."

"I already heard all that. So stop your sweating, its gross." There was a long pause as if to let those words sink in. "You can take him, I couldn't care less, but remember you owe me one." As he says so he begins to walk off.

His Mysophobia is well known even outside the book, but it still was stunning that he could talk to not only a higher officer, but also a prince like that.

George had the look of a rejected man glued to his face, his last hope snuffed out like a dying fire. "Did you hear that George, you're with me from now on."

He flopped onto his butt, eyes empty. "But, but, but." He muttered like a broken man. My patients soon ran thin when after twenty minutes he still sat there shaking back and forth.

I exit the building with task one completed, now the guard. As I see it now there's three options, and all require a named character, one the underworld is filled with many strong people, two someone in the military, or three find some unrelated member. I have a good idea for all three, but let's start with the easy shall we.
