Chapter 2 - From Hero To Anti-hero

There was no warning.

No flash of light. No truck. No ritual or dramatic thunderstorm.

One moment, Seth Chrono was sitting on his couch eating ramen. The next, he was standing in a temple surrounded by robed figures, glowing glyphs, and a pressure in the air so heavy it made his bones hum.

"…Okay," he said aloud, looking around. "Either I died choking on noodles, or this is the weirdest concert I've ever been to."

A voice echoed through the marble chamber. Calm. Immense. Inhuman.

"Welcome, chosen one. You have been summoned across realms."

Seth raised an eyebrow. "I figured."

From the ceiling descended a figure draped in radiant white robes, feet never touching the floor. His eyes glowed like suns. A halo circled behind his head—not gold, but woven from spinning scripture.

"I am the God of Resurrection. This world is on the brink of annihilation. You are to defeat the Demon God who has awakened at the edge of time."

"You want me to what?"

"Slay the Demon God," the god said again. "And we will return you home."

Seth folded his arms. "And… Wi-Fi? Is that included in the package?"

The god paused. "You misunderstand the weight of your task."

"No, I get it. You summoned a nobody to do your dirty work. I just want to know if I'm getting signal reception while doing it."

The robed priests around the temple exchanged nervous glances.

Seth didn't care. Deep down, he knew—he wasn't special. But he had watched enough anime to know how this worked. Powers would come. Monsters would follow. And somehow, even without any training, he'd survive.

And he did.

Objective: [Kill the Demon God]

The world outside the temple was savage. Demons tore through towns. Forgotten gods ruled over scorched kingdoms. Seth didn't get a sword. He didn't get a class. Just… the mission.

So he learned. Trained under wandering warriors. Lost fights. Got stronger. Bled. Laughed. Nearly died—a lot. And slowly, over time, he became something the world started whispering about.

A human without divinity… who killed divine beasts.

And finally, after a year, he stood alone in a wasteland, his tattered cloak billowing as he stared down the monstrous form of the Demon God itself—an ancient god which surprisingly was a dragon of despair, coiled in chains and shadows.

The final battle was brutal.

Reality cracked. Time warped. Every swing of the demon's claw could level cities.

But Seth—he smiled the whole way through.

He moved with fire, cutting divine bone and breaking impossible scales.

Until, at last, the Demon God died screaming. A god's scream—raw, ancient, full of fear.

Seth stood there, panting, his blade smoking. His fingers trembled.

"You know… for the end of all things, you died like a baby goat."

No one was left to laugh.

The sky shimmered.

Light descended.

Once more, the God of Resurrection appeared—untouched, glowing, serene.

"Well done, saviour. You have saved us all. Now, as promised… I shall return your soul back."

Seth chuckled weakly. "I better get a five-star hotel room and a bath the size of a hot spring."

The god smiled.

"But… your memories will not come with you."

Silence.

Seth blinked.

"I'm sorry. What?"

"A soul soaked in divinity cannot return whole," the god said, calm as ever. "This is mercy. You will return to your world… but your memories, your strength, your identity—they must be left behind."

Seth stared at him.

Then laughed.

"You guys are the worst customer support I've ever seen."

The god's expression didn't change.

"You misunderstand. This is balance."

"No," Seth said softly. "This is manipulation."

He stepped forward, his voice losing its humor.

"You used me to kill something you couldn't. Lied to me. And now you want to erase me like I was a borrowed sword."

He summoned his blade. The last of the Demon God's power still crackled through it.

"I'm done being disposable."

The Resurrection God narrowed his eyes. "You would defy your return?"

"No. I'd kill you too."

The clash lasted seconds.

Seth was fast. Too fast. Fueled by pain, betrayal, and the residual flame of the Demon God, he tore through the Resurrection God's divine shell like it was paper.

And when the god fell, screaming in fragmented light, something snapped in the air.

Chains.

Chains not of metal—but of Concept.

One by one, they floated toward him.

And wrapped around him like a second skin.
