I knew how to get to the Glen and my plan was to simply take a ship because that was the fastest way to get there. However, when I got to the ship yard a little girl handed me a tiny scroll that simply said:
THE WAY IS NARROW FEW GET IN.
I was not sure which way to go but I saw this extremely narrow road that led away from the dock. I was not sure where I was going, but decided to follow the path of the scrolls.
A man who was blind was standing above the dock and a tiny narrow path led to him and I knew that is where I supposed to go. The way was steep and the ground slipped under my feet and I struggled to fight my way to the top.
I finally got to the old man and I held him to ensure he did not fall off the cliff. I had to do everything for him for a full week and he spoke not a word. The long days and nights I would think of my father and the adventures on the seas selling silks and meeting new people.
I had to keep him warm from the elements and catch fresh fish for him. It was evident he was lost but where would I find his home? After what seemed like a long time I came to the west end of Valley of Despair and there I found a hamlet I had never seen before, and a little boy ran to us.
"You found my Grandfather!" The little boy proclaimed and the lad handed me a scroll that simply read:
WHEN YOU DO IT FOR THE LEAST THESE YOU DO IT UNTO ME.
A woman approached me. "I am Kindness you have learned the first lesson, there is a vessel now by our bay that you can take. This ship will give you rest."
Her voice was the native tongue of Nod but it sounded different. I simply had to leave because as I turned to say thank you, she simply disappeared.
I hastened to the dock, and boarded the ship called GRACE. I never saw the captain but all the food I could ever imagine was on the ship, and the feather bed called my name after being with the blind man for almost a month.
I was trying very hard to not think about the time lost but I was glad the old man got back to his family. I tried to wonder how the old doggery hunched over man walked so far from home.
I pushed the thoughts out as exhaustion stripped my soul almost leaving me with no breath. I was on the ship for five days. I was now in the Valley of Doubters.
