No one told me that love could become a sword that cuts between two hearts that were once inseparable…
In a quiet village in the countryside outskirts, Rahaf sat on her bed at night, scrolling through some social media pages. After a while, she felt bored and decided to sleep, which was her only way to escape the darkness of life.
Rahaf was a beautiful twenty-year-old girl. Her features were serene, and her hazel eyes concealed conflicting emotions of sadness, loss… and love.
Rahaf lived between separated parents. She never forgot the moment of parting from her younger sister Tala, who went with their mother to the countryside her mother's origins lay there while her father belonged to the city.
At the time of separation, her father, Essam, and her mother, Nargis, decided to split the sisters. One would go with the mother and the other with the father. Now Rahaf lives with her mother in a simple rural house, while Tala lives with their father in the city and they visit each other periodically.
In the morning, Rahaf woke to her mother's soft voice calling her to breakfast. After finishing, Rahaf left the house heading to her close friend Karma's home. Karma had become a substitute sister to her two hearts inseparable.
Karma was a simple girl with striking features clear white skin and a cheerful demeanor but behind her smile lay inner pain. She retained only a few memories of her family, as her father, mother, and younger siblings died in a car accident. Now she lived alone in her father's property.
Rahaf walked absentmindedly trying to gather her thoughts. She had decided to tell her friend about her feelings for that strange person who had stolen all her energy in love.
Karma was no different she too had been eagerly waiting for Rahaf to confess her feelings for the same person who had enchanted her too.
Rahaf arrived at Karma's house. They sat in the guest room and exchanged small talk. Then Rahaf said hesitantly: "Karma, I want to tell you something important."
Karma replied with a smile: "Me too, Rahaf."
Rahaf said calmly: "Honestly, I think I have fallen in love."
Karma laughed loudly and said: "No, no that's impossible. You want to tell me what I want to tell you. I too love… maybe even adore but I don't know."
Rahaf asked inquisitively: "And who is the one you fell in love with?"
Karma answered: "I was supposed to ask you the same question so maybe we can answer together. Each of us will say the name of her beloved at the same time."
Rahaf agreed. Then they spoke together, uttering the name of their beloved at the same moment: "Yazan."
Rahaf looked at Karma in shock and fear, then said tremulously: "Which Yazan do you mean? Do you mean Yazan Tarek?"
Karma trembled in her place. How could she and her friend love the same person? She replied weakly: "Yes, him."
Rahaf didn't feel the tears streaming down her eyes like waterfalls. Karma spoke with outer calm despite the storms inside: "Unfortunately, Rahaf, but Yazan also feels the same about me. He already confessed and decided we would become officially a couple."
Rahaf could no longer bear it. She jumped up from her place and left the entire house quickly, not knowing where she was going. All she could think was that the only person she ever loved was the same person her friend had fallen in love with and he returned those feelings to her too.
At the edge of the village, on a wooden boardwalk by a stream, Yazan walked in complete silence. He, a twenty-two-year-old young man, gazed at the clear sky, thinking about the moment he would have Karma in his life the girl he loved madly. He remembered two days ago when he confessed his love to her, and she had felt the same. He decided to accelerate things and make their relationship official.
His thoughts were interrupted by his close friend Anas, who approached from behind and jokingly said: "What's occupying your mind?"
Yazan smiled: "The one who stole my soul and mind Karma."
Anas looked at Yazan with an expression he couldn't interpret. Trying to change the topic, he said: "Have you made a decision about the job matter or not?"
Yazan replied calmly: "Honestly, not yet. Right now I'm preoccupied with Karma."
Anas responded in surprise: "What matter?"
Yazan smiled: "I've decided to make our love story official I'm going to marry her."
Anas didn't respond, but quietly said: "Congratulations too bad I couldn't stay longer with you. I'm busy now. If you need anything, I'm here."
Yazan warmly bid him farewell. Anas left. No one knows what he was thinking in those moments…
