It wasn't darkness. Darkness had edges.
This was nothingness.
She wandered through it barefoot and blind, like a whisper drifting across a void. No memories. No name. No form.
Just thirst.
A dry, aching thirst that clawed through her as if her soul had been scorched clean. She reached for something—anything. But her fingers met only cold silence. Her feet scraped a floor that didn't exist. And ahead of her stretched a tunnel of ink, endless and choking.
How long had she been walking?
No stars. No breath. No heartbeat. Just an eerie hum in the distance, faint and pulsing like a beacon that wouldn't speak its language.
Her body no longer existed. But her hunger for meaning remained.
Then—a flicker.
Not of light. But memory.
A scream.
A flame.
She froze.
The tunnel shuddered around her. And something yanked her forward—not gently, not kindly. Like the universe decided she wasn't meant to stay in its purgatory.
And just like that…
She woke up.
She woke to the smell of antiseptic and silence.
Bright white overhead. A soft beeping to her left. The muted thrum of distant footsteps in the corridor. Too clean. Too still. She blinked—once, twice—and the ceiling above her didn't belong to the lab. No steel. No wires. No red lights screaming in her skull.
Her chest rose slowly.
Her breathing felt... strange.
Like her lungs were learning a rhythm they hadn't known before.
'Am I really alive?' she asked herself.
Before she could ponder more about what is happening and how she is still alive, a loud voice rang as the door of the ward opens.
"What do you mean my daughter is guility? That girl fall on her own. It has nothing to do with my daughter. That girl is just trying to obstruct my daughter, nothing more. How can a evil girl like her die. She just wants to create trouble for my Wei Wei." said an arrogant and conceited woman as she enters the ward with two police officers, a nurse and a girl following behind her. She stop speaking when she notice the girl on the hospital bed.
An angry and calculating look flashes in her eyes as she exclaims, " Look! didn't I tell you that she girl is faking it. How can a bastard like her die." to the police officers, pointing at the girl in the bed.
The girl has a confused look in her eyes.
"What's happening here? Where am I? Didn't I die in the lab? And even if I survived, how come I am at a hospital and not in the lab? Who are these people and why is this loud woman pointing he fingers at me?"
The girl thought as she tries to understand what is actually happening. She is just wondering all these when her attention goes on her dark black hairs and clear, small hands.
'These black hairs? What happened to my fiery red hairs? And these hands? How come they become so small? Where are all the scars and injection marks on her hands?' She can't realize what is happening with her. A stange thought go through her head as she touch her face. As she turns her face towards the left, she is shocked.
There is a mirror on the wall, showing a face she is completely unfamiliar with.
Just as she was trying to dtermine what is happening the people in the ward comes forward towards her.
One of the police officer comes closer, "Zhao Meilin....."
As soon as the girl hears this name, a string of forign memories surface in her mind. The only thing she recognize in these memories is the face of the owner of these memories which she saw in the mirror just now.
Clutching her head tightly she groans as pain subdue her mind and she black out with just one thought in her mind.
"I am Reborn!"
