Chapter 8 - The Blood Moon Mistake

The moment Eva saw Denial crouched in a savage state, devouring a wild rabbit drenched in blood, her entire world came crashing down. Her legs trembled, and her breath caught in her throat.

"No... this can't be Denial... I must be mistaken," she whispered to herself, backing away in horror.

But Denial, his mouth still stained with blood, looked up and saw her. He immediately dropped the half-eaten rabbit and began running toward her.

"Eva! Wait—please! Let me explain!" he called out desperately.

But Denial's speed was inhuman. Within mere seconds, he caught up to her. Eva stumbled backward, eyes wide with fear.

"Please... don't hurt me," she begged, her voice shaking. "I swear, I won't tell anyone what I saw. Just let me go. Please..."

Denial, heartbroken, eyes glistening, reached out. "Just listen to me once, Eva. Please... please don't be scared of me."

But Eva didn't want to listen. Her fear overpowered every memory, every moment they had shared.

Something inside Denial snapped.

Suddenly, he grabbed Eva by the neck and pinned her in place. His voice trembled, not with rage, but with heartbreak.

"You won't even hear me out? I've been trying so hard to hide this... to protect you from this part of me... Just once, Eva—listen to me!"

As he shouted in pain and desperation, his grip tightened. Eva gasped, struggling... but Denial didn't notice.

Until it was too late.

She stopped moving.

Only then did Denial come back to his senses.

His hands trembled as he cradled her lifeless body. "Eva... why didn't you stay quiet just for a moment? Why didn't you let me explain?" His voice broke as he held her against his chest.

"I love you, Eva... you don't know how much. You never knew what I've become... this curse—it's not who I truly am..."

His lips brushed her cold forehead as the sky above cracked with thunder, and rain poured down over the tragedy.

Denial, now soaked in rain and grief, carried her lifeless body home in silence.

He laid her gently on his bed, still holding her close. That entire night, he didn't sleep. He simply clung to her... as if by loving her enough, he could bring her back.

By dawn, he walked to the backyard, dug a grave with his bare hands, and buried her there... in silence.

Kneeling before her grave, Denial looked up at the sky, whispering—

"Oh Lord... please take this curse away from me. I beg you. I've lost the only person I ever loved."

But the heavens did not offer mercy.

A cold whisper echoed in his mind—

"You will never be freed from this curse. Blood has been spilled by your hands. And your penance... has only just begun."
