Chapter 1 - Chapter 2; A WOLF IN THE SHADOWS

Tang Xinyue's heels clicked against the polished marble floor of the Lu Corporation skyscraper.

She had never been here in her past life—by the time she realized who Lu Zeyan was, it was already too late. He had single-handedly crushed one of the companies tied to Jiang Yuze's rise to power. Quietly. Mercilessly.

Now, in this reborn life, she wasn't just curious. She needed him.

The receptionist hesitated. "Miss, do you have an appointment with Mr. Lu?"

Xinyue leaned in, her voice calm but commanding. "Tell him Tang Xinyue is here. He'll want to hear what I have to say about Jiang Yuze."

Ten minutes later, she was ushered into a private elevator.

On the top floor, she stepped into an office that looked like it belonged to a war strategist—not a CEO. Minimalist. Cold. Glass walls overlooking the city, giving the illusion that he sat above the world.

He was seated behind a desk, eyes scanning documents without looking up.

"I don't recall inviting you, Miss Tang."

His voice was low, clipped. Dangerous.

She smiled, unbothered. "Then let's call this fate, Mr. Lu."

That got his attention. He looked up.

Lu Zeyan was sharper than she remembered. Clean lines, suit tailored like armor. His eyes—cold obsidian—held no warmth, only calculation.

"What do you want?" he asked.

"A partnership," she said, placing a flash drive on the desk. "That contains the first piece of information that could take down Jiang Yuze's strongest backers."

He didn't touch it.

"You think I need help destroying Jiang Yuze?" he asked. "What's in it for you?"

She stepped closer. "I want revenge. And I want to burn the people who tried to bury me. I believe we can help each other."

He stood, towering. "And what do you offer, Tang Xinyue?"

She met his gaze without flinching. "Me."

A beat of silence. Then a smirk curled at the corner of his lips.

"Interesting."
