After both of Julia's parents regained consciousness, Julia immediately went to be with them. Jason then signaled Robert over with a slight wave.
"Tell me everything," Jason said. His voice was flat, cold — the warmth he showed Julia nowhere to be found. His expression carried a weight of anger, even a hint of killing intent.
This time, Jason was truly furious.
Before this, regarding Julia's family, he thought everything was finally stabilizing. He respected her father's kindness, but he didn't actually want to get involved with a man so selfless he'd donate away everything he had.
But after spending time with Julia, he learned something clearly:
She was different.
She grew up under enormous hardship because her father gave everything away to help others. They went bankrupt, went into medical debt, nearly collapsed as a family.
But Julia never complained about fate.Never blamed her parents.Never gave up.
Instead, she endured. She remained gentle, resilient, grateful.
Even the smallest kindness — she remembered it.
Seeing her family slowly improving had made Jason genuinely happy for her. She deserved peace.
But before she could even breathe, those shameless relatives struck again.
Her mother nearly died. Her father collapsed and was rushed into the ICU.Their entire family was shattered in a single afternoon.
How could anyone tolerate that?
Robert took a breath. He had clearly organized the information beforehand.
"Those relatives panicked when Julia's mom got seriously hurt. They scattered and hid. It was chaotic, so we couldn't identify exactly who hurt her, but I've narrowed it down to several suspects."
He continued, voice lower:
"And I found out why they suddenly dared to act so boldly. There's someone behind them. The mastermind calls himself 'Boss Cai,' the son of the owner of Cai & Son Remodeling Inc. He's well-connected in Savannah. A lot more influential than me."
Jason's gaze sharpened.
Robert continued, "The reason he targeted Julia's family… is because he tried confessing to her before. She rejected him. Recently he heard she was getting close to another guy. He got jealous."
At that part, Robert glanced at Jason.
There was no need to say his name.Everyone knew who "the other guy" was.
He kept going:
"From my investigation, Boss Cai didn't originally intend to hurt anyone. His plan was just to damage the family business so Julia would come begging for help — to force her into submission. He wanted control, not chaos."
"But those relatives… they lost control. Caused a huge mess. Hurt her mother. Things spiraled far beyond what Boss Cai wanted."
Jason remained silent for a moment, thinking.
Then he said:
"I'm giving you a job. Spread this message everywhere — publicly and privately."He leaned forward."Tell people Julia's parents are safe… and that the family just received a massive donation from a wealthy benefactor."
Robert froze.
Then his pupils constricted in realization.
He understood instantly.
Jason wasn't simply trying to calm rumors. This was bait.
Robert didn't ask more. He nodded firmly.
"Yes, sir. I'll get it done right away."
He didn't mind being ordered around. In fact, he felt energized, motivated.
This was his chance.
If he succeeded — if Jason approved of his work — he could rise along with him.
Climbing upward in life… might finally be within reach.
No sooner had Robert left than Olivia arrived at the hospital. Since there were unfolding issues here, they naturally came as reinforcements.
Jason spoke immediately.
"Olivia, contact a local law firm. I want the strongest legal team Savannah has. No budget limit."
"On it," she said, already pulling out her phone.
Jason continued, "arrange bodyguards to secretly protect Julia's family. And prepare legal recording devices — the kind that's authorized and admissible in court."
Olivia nodded crisply. "I'll take care of everything."
They both rushed off to carry out his orders.
Just as the preparations were complete, Julia came out of the ICU. Her eyes were still swollen and red, but her expression had softened. Relief mixed with exhaustion.
Jason asked gently, "How are they? Are Uncle and Auntie stable?"
"They're safe now," she said, managing a small smile. "The doctor said they just need rest. Also… you haven't eaten anything since we got off the plane. Tell me what you want. I'll go buy it for you."
Despite the tears and fatigue, her smile was gentle, fresh — warming in a way that made Jason momentarily stunned.
This girl was so strong.
If the same thing had happened to him, even he might not be able to hold himself together this well.
Jason shook his head. "You haven't eaten either. And you're more exhausted than me. Let's go downstairs and get something together."
They went to the small restaurant on the hospital's first floor. As soon as they sat down, Julia took the initiative — washing Jason's utensils, pouring him water, fussing over him with soft, careful movements.
The kind that made anyone's chest ache.
After eating, they headed back upstairs.
But they had barely reached the lobby when a loud commotion erupted near the reception desk.
Several men and women were shouting loudly:
"Where's Julia?! We're looking for her!"
As soon as Julia saw them, her face turned stiff and pale.
Jason immediately squeezed her hand gently.
It's okay.
He had already guessed this might happen.
He had intentionally asked Robert to spread the rumor that a very wealthy person donated a huge sum to the Carter family. Those shameless relatives had been leeching off the Carters for years — there was no way they'd miss the chance to chase what they thought was free money.
Still, Jason didn't expect them to show up this fast.
Truly shameless.Endlessly lowering their own bottom line.
Feeling Jason's warm grip and seeing his steady expression, Julia's trembling heart slowly settled.
But when one of the relatives spotted them, the whole group rushed over in a swarm.
The hidden bodyguards were about to step in, but Jason raised his hand.
No.Not yet.
The leeches reached them, shouting even before Julia could open her mouth.
"So it's true, huh? We heard your family got a big donation from a rich guy! Why didn't you tell us?!"
"You promised you'd help our kids with college! Are you going back on your word again?!"
"Hand over the money, and we'll leave. If you had done this earlier, your mom wouldn't have 'accidentally fallen.'"
"Our kids' futures depend on you! Don't break your promise — people should keep their word!"
"You give us the donation money, and we'll go. Otherwise, don't blame us for causing more trouble!"
Julia clenched her fists. She wasn't as endlessly patient as her father — she had her limit too. She opened her mouth to retort—
But Jason spoke first.
"If I give you the money, you'll stop causing trouble? And suddenly Auntie's head wouldn't have been cracked open, right?"
Julia froze in shock.
This tone.This attitude.
This was the Jason she knew — someone who absolutely could not be bullied.
A few of the ungrateful relatives looked Jason up and down, then exchanged glances, whispering.
"He must be the rich guy."
"That's him."
The greed on their faces intensified.
"One payment, and we'll leave," one of them declared proudly. "You promised a $2,000 monthly sponsorship for our kids, but you stopped paying! You owe us back payments."
"And all these years of delays? That hurt our children's future. We need compensation. Emotional damages! Yeah — emotional distress!"
Jason kept a straight face.Calm.Unbothered.
He even spoke like someone easily manipulated.
"Okay, stop yelling. Is $60,000 enough? I'll give each of you $60,000 so long as you promise never to bother there family again."
The entire group went silent.
They hadn't expected that number.
Their eyes widened.
Then greed exploded in them like wildfire.
"We want $60,000!" one said.
"Not a cent less!" another added.
"That's per person!" someone corrected loudly. "Not total! Per person!"
"As long as you pay, we'll leave immediately. No more trouble."
Jason turned to Julia.
"Give me your bank card."
She passed it to him, confused.
Jason transferred the funds on the spot.
Sixty thousand dollars per person. Not a penny less.
They were stunned — speechless at such a large sum, thinking they had just scammed a naive rich fool.
And none of them realized…
Jason had just baited the trap closed.
