When Mr. Reeve and Amanda learned that Jason had bought out the entire amusement park, their lingering anxiety dissolved completely. Clearly, Shenna really was out there playing bumper cars — just in the most extravagant way possible.
Olivia, Jason's assistant, continued sending updates. Shenna rode bumper cars, the Ferris wheel, then the carousel — her laughter captured in every photo. Her joy was unrestrained, pure, and almost childlike.
Then Olivia's next message came through — but this time, it wasn't another cheerful update.
"Mr. Reeve, I just learned that the Horizon Group — the company behind the New York Observatory Tower — has close ties with your family. Could you share the contact information of one of their representatives? We have something we'd like to discuss."
Amanda and Mr. Reeve exchanged puzzled looks. Everything had been going so well — why the sudden need to contact the Horizon Group?
Amanda thought for a moment before saying, "Shenna's always been obsessed with galaxies — the Andromeda, Sombrero, Cartwheel... Maybe Jason's taking her to the Observatory Tower for some late-night stargazing."
The logic fit perfectly. Without hesitation, Amanda forwarded several Horizon Group contacts to Olivia.
But after doing so, Amanda hesitated — and then something stirred inside her.
That young man had just spent hundreds of millions so their daughter could play bumper cars. Shouldn't she, as Shenna's mother, do something too? Some part of her — perhaps pride, perhaps parental competitiveness — wouldn't let her be outdone so easily.
She picked up her phone and called the General Manager of the Observatory Tower.
"Mr. Taylor? Sorry to bother you so late," she said warmly.
"Mrs. Reeve, please," the man replied quickly. "It's never a bother when you call. I'm still in the office — not even close to turning in."
The Reeve family's influence still carried weight in the city, and her call instantly earned his respect.
Amanda smiled. "That's good to hear. The reason I'm calling is simple — my daughter suddenly decided she wants to use the Observatory Tower's telescopes tonight to look at some galaxies. I know you're closed right now, but could you open a side entrance for her, just this once?"
There was a pause. On the other end, Mr. Taylor blinked in surprise. Amanda Reeve was known for her poise and restraint — not for spontaneous, childlike requests.
After a brief silence, he said carefully, "Mrs. Reeve, I'd love to, truly. But it's a bit tricky tonight. We're preparing for a VIP delegation tomorrow, so the telescopes just went through a full recalibration. Everything's locked down until morning. If you'd like, I can arrange a private session for your daughter another day — full access to every telescope."
To make sure Amanda didn't think he was brushing her off, Mr. Taylor even sent her a copy of the guest list for the upcoming VIP event.
Amanda sighed softly, understanding. "No worries, I completely understand. Let's do it another day."
She hung up and shook her head with a rueful smile. "Looks like she'll have to wait to see the stars," she muttered.
But less than twenty minutes later, Olivia's next update arrived — and this one nearly made Amanda drop her phone.
In the photos and short videos, Shenna and Jason were standing atop the New York Observatory Tower — surrounded by high-powered telescopes. Shenna was peering through one, her face lit by the soft glow of the night sky, and beside her, Jason adjusted another lens with easy familiarity.
And the most unbelievable part? Both the President of the Horizon Group and Mr. Taylor, the General Manager she had just spoken to, were standing right there — personally assisting them.
Amanda and Mr. Reeve stared at the screen, speechless.
Jason Carter had done it again.
To them, it was almost surreal — not just his wealth, but the way reality itself seemed to bend around him. The man didn't just get access to things. He moved the world as if it were his playground.
Meanwhile, Shenna, blissfully unaware of the chaos her night had stirred, leaned toward Jason and whispered, "I've never seen stars this close before."
Jason smiled, adjusting the telescope slightly. "Then tonight, make a wish on one," he said softly.
And under the vast, glittering sky — she did.
Amanda and Mr. Reeve were both left dumbfounded. What on earth was going on?
The Los Angeles Astronomical Research Center was supposed to be closed to all visitors tonight, as they were preparing for an exclusive event the next day. Even Amanda's family, who had long maintained a good relationship with the Yufu Corporation, couldn't get special access.
By all logic, Jason Carter shouldn't have had any connection with the Yufu Group. Even if he was popular or influential, there was no way he could bypass such strict rules.
Yet somehow, the president and general manager were now personally assisting him—in the middle of the night?
Amanda and Mr. Reeve exchanged confused looks just as her phone buzzed again.
It was a call from General Manager Taylor, the same man who had previously declined their request.
As soon as Amanda picked up, his tone was completely different—ten times more respectful than before.
"Mrs. Amanda, so your daughter came with Mr. Carter! Why didn't you say so earlier? Please forgive my rudeness just now. I've personally gone to welcome them inside and will make sure your daughter and Mr. Carter have a wonderful night stargazing at the Observatory."
Amanda stammered in disbelief. "Th-That's very kind of you, but… you have important guests to entertain tomorrow. Are you sure it's fine for them to just, um, look around tonight?"
"Look around?" Taylor almost gasped. "How could you say Mr. Carter is just looking around? He's here for an inspection! Since your daughter came with him, she's naturally part of the inspection team. Mrs. Amanda, please—don't humble me like that! You're not still upset that I declined earlier, are you?"
Amanda didn't even know how to reply.
"I sincerely apologize," Taylor went on rapidly. "I had no idea your daughter was with Mr. Carter! If I'd known, I wouldn't have even mentioned making an exception—it would've been disrespectful. Anyway, I won't waste time chatting. I'll personally entertain your daughter and Mr. Carter. And, ah, if she's pleased, perhaps she could put in a good word for me with Mr. Carter later."
Then he hung up.
Amanda and Mr. Reeve just sat there, stunned. The general manager's tone hadn't just been polite—it was downright reverent, as though Jason Carter were his boss.
Their confusion only deepened, so they asked Amanda's secretary to discreetly check what was going on. It wasn't technically "digging into" Jason Carter, just an inquiry through their contacts at the Observatory.
A few minutes later, the secretary returned—looking utterly bewildered.
"Mrs. Amanda… Mr. Carter just bought the entire Astronomical Research Center."
Both Amanda and Mr. Reeve gasped aloud.
"He what?"
The secretary nodded slowly, still trying to process the report.
"Yes, you heard that right. Including the Planetarium, the attached office complex, and the whole 30-story facility—it's all been purchased under Mr. Carter's name. The property covers about 15 acres, with over 450,000 square feet of built space. It had been struggling financially for years despite being completed, so maybe he saw potential in it. The deal's price hasn't been publicly disclosed, but preliminary estimates put it at no less than 60 million dollars."
The room went silent.
Jason Carter had bought an entire observatory… just to look at the stars with Shenna?
No wonder the management treated him like royalty. This wasn't someone making an exception—this was the new owner coming for an inspection.
Amanda and Mr. Reeve sat frozen. Before, Jason had spent over 40 million to buy out an amusement park—just to ride bumper cars. Now, he'd dropped another 60 million for a romantic night under the stars.
The word "extravagant" didn't even begin to describe him.
Their entire family fortune, accumulated over decades, barely reached 300 billion dollars. If they spent money the way Jason Carter did, they'd be broke in a week. The thought made both their scalps tingle.
Meanwhile, across the street, chase and Liam, who hadn't left yet, had been quietly eavesdropping on the conversation.
When they heard Jason Carter had bought the Observatory outright—just so Shenna could stargaze—they were too shocked to even react.
The two men exchanged glances, their faces pale.
They no longer felt defeated. They didn't even have the courage to compare themselves anymore.
Jason Carter wasn't competing on the same playing field as anyone else.
He was the playing field.
