Chapter 1 — Rumor in the Shadows

London, that day, April 15th, a rumor would reach London... a rumor that would spread through the underworld of the city, a world bathed in shadows. Though unnoticed, they remained hidden from the world, working cautiously to play their games without anyone finding out.

Weapons, drugs, attacks, and other crimes that would make even the bravest policeman tremble. But that day, not only would crimes increase—among the shadows, a rumor would spread like a virus: "Oliver has arrived in London." That single phrase was enough.

In the shadows, those who controlled everything grew desperate upon hearing those words.

Gatwick Airport. A man arrived in a BMW, walking calmly in his long coat and AC/DC cap, heading firmly toward the North Terminal. His steps were steady and slow, his gaze piercing. He was stopped by an airport officer, as the man was heading toward the HMRC offices, which drew the officer's attention.

-Officer: Sir, please identify yourself.

-LetterJane: Of course, Officer.

From his pocket, he pulled out a large white envelope and, with a smile, handed it to the officer.

The officer took the envelope and opened it. Upon reading the contents of the letter inside, he looked at LetterJane.

-Officer: Follow me, sir.

The officer guided LetterJane through the airport until they reached a restricted area. As they walked, they passed several guards, but with the officer's identification, they were allowed through until they reached the surveillance room.

As they entered the surveillance room, LetterJane pulled out a Colt from his coat and pointed it at the guard monitoring the cameras.

-LetterJane: Hey.

The guard turned to look.

Without hesitation, he pulled the trigger, and the bullet shattered the guard's skull. The officer watched the door while LetterJane plugged in a USB, entered a command code into the console, and then left the room, leaving the officer alone inside.

LetterJane quickly exited through the hallway and entered a bathroom as he heard guards and police rushing toward the surveillance room. Inside a bathroom stall, Letter dialed a nameless number.

Calling...

-LetterJane: Hello, boss. It's done. I expect my payment by Monday.

-Unknown: Good. Thank you for your services.

The call ended.

Unknown, sitting in front of a laptop, watched the customs footage from April 15th remotely.

-Unknown: Hah, so it's true. Oliver has arrived in London. This is going to be fun.

Unknown pulled a cell phone from the drawer under his desk and dialed a speed-dial number.

Calling...

-Unknown: Oliver is in London. He arrived at Gatwick Airport. I suggest sending assassins and contacting our bought-off police to keep an eye on the streets. If they find him, shoot on sight, sir.

-%&/: Understood. Eliminate the evidence, and you know what to do.

The call ended.

Unknown took out a gallon of gasoline and spread it across the apartment. Then, he lit a match and set everything ablaze before leaving the building. Two blocks away, a massive explosion erupted from the building, and Unknown disappeared into the crowd.

Three weeks later.

A wave of crimes swept through London. Journalists and police were stunned, but in the shadows, a surveillance network had been deployed across the city, all waiting and searching for the man who had become a legend among the world's criminals.

In an alley, a pair of spies made their rounds as they did every day.

-John: It's been three weeks since they contacted us. Are you even sure this guy exists?

-Remus: Honestly, I doubt it. This Oliver has become more of a legend.

-John: So, is he really dangerous? Some kind of ruthless crime lord or something?

-Remus: You clearly don't know the real story. But what can you expect from a corrupt ex-cop?

-John: If you know so much, why don't you tell me?

-Remus: You know talking about it is forbidden.

-John: Come on, both you and I know that's just a superstitious rule. It's not actually forbidden. Spit it out.

*-Remus: ...Fine. Oliver Baldwin is a kind of problem solver. He appeared in Colombia in 2022. In just one year, he dismantled the entire criminal and corruption network. And believe me, that's a task not even an entire organization could pull off as fast as he did. Hundreds of arrests, but there were also dozens of deaths—and it was just him and his assistant. It made global headlines, but his name was never released. For a while, people thought it was a cartel war. Then, in 2023, the same thing happened in El Salvador in just three months. Two months later, it happened in Argentina in just five months. Right before New Year's 2024, Oliver Baldwin's name was leaked to the lower criminal organizations. A hacker provided the information. That's how the underworld learned his name. After those three cases, he was kept under surveillance—him and his assistant. But in March 2024, he disappeared. No one saw him again until three weeks ago, when his description popped up at Gatwick Airport customs.*

-John: You've got to be kidding me! That's obviously an exaggeration. There's no way someone like that exists, hahaha!

From the entrance of the alley, footsteps echoed. A man in a beige jacket, a deep red button-up shirt, and gray pants approached.

The spies, alert, drew their weapons.

-Remus: Don't come any closer! Back off or you're dead!

*-Oliver: Oh, I'm sorry. I thought you were looking for me. He smiles.

-Remus: Shit, it's him... FIRE—!!

A loud gunshot rang out, and John's leg was shattered in an instant. Before Remus could react, a powerful blow knocked him unconscious. The last thing he saw before blacking out was the man's smiling face.

In a filthy, dark room, Remus began to open his eyes. A sharp pain throbbed in his head, and the unbearable pressure on his wrists, abdomen, and ankles made it hard to breathe or even move a finger. He looked around, trying to figure out where he was, but his mind was still foggy. The headache faded slightly but didn't disappear entirely. Then, he noticed a presence in the shadows of the room—a silhouette obscured by dust and darkness. The figure sat in a chair, watching intently, hands clasped between his knees, slightly hunched forward, his face expressionless.

-Oliver: Well! You're finally awake.

-Remus: What happened to my partner...?

-Oliver: Don't worry. He's in the hospital right now. According to my friend, he's out of danger.

With a shadowy smile, Oliver stood from his chair.

-Oliver: Now... you and I are going to have a little chat.
