A few nervous chuckles rippled through the group, but the tension remained. Fear was still etched into their faces, their eyes darting toward the forest as if expecting a T-rex to come crashing through the trees at any moment.
Megan continued, her voice steady. "Now, who found the mushrooms yesterday?"
A young man, his clothes smudged with dirt, stood up. "I did, Officer Megan," he said, his voice shaking slightly.
Megan nodded. "Is there any more where you found them?"
The man shook his head. "No, ma'am. I brought all of them."
Megan exhaled, but her voice remained firm. "Okay. No need to panic, everyone." She gestured to the forest around them.
"If there were mushrooms there, then we could find them somewhere else. We just need to look carefully."
