Chapter 4 - 4. The Exchange

◉◉◉◉◉

Inside a glowing white space, a translucent human-shaped soul hovered midair. With one hand, it swiped and tapped an invisible interface in front of it.

Kael's heart was racing with anticipation as he opened the [Exchange Menu].

[Ding!]

A familiar, minimalist blue interface popped up plain black text neatly aligned in rows, exuding that signature system-style simplicity.

---

[Exchange Menu]:

[IV Booster (Small)] – [50 Credits]

Boosts a Pokémon's individual values (IVs) by 5–10 points randomly. Usable once per reincarnation. Each stat is capped at 31.

[Element Affinity Choice (Basic)] – [200 Credits]

Grants the ability to choose one of three randomly offered elemental types during rebirth.

[TM: Water Pulse] – [150 Credits]

A consumable Technical Machine that teaches the Water-type move [Water Pulse] to eligible Pokémon.

[TM: Hidden Power] – [150 Credits]

A consumable TM that allows a Pokémon to learn [Hidden Power], a Normal-type move that varies based on the user's hidden potential.

[Azure Feather] – [2000 Credits]

A mystical item made from Lugia's feather. Greatly enhances the user's affinity with Psychic-, Flying-, and Water-type energies.

[Balance: 207 Credits]

Note: The shop refreshes with each [Reincarnation].

---

Kael scanned the options thoughtfully.

"An [IV Booster] could improve my next form's stats, not a bad deal."

"I already got one [Element Affinity Choice] from the starter bundle, but saving another for future use might be smart."

"And [TMs]? If I'm lucky enough to reincarnate into a Pokémon that can use them, having some early firepower would definitely help."

"Damn, that [Azure Feather] though... It's so tempting."

He sighed. The legendary-tier item would likely never appear again. But his points were limited he'd have to let it go for now.

"Ugh, this is killing me… which should I pick?"

After mulling it over, Kael made the practical decision to spend [200 Credits] on the [IV Booster (Small)] and the [TM: Hidden Power].

He exited the [Exchange Menu] and prepared to initiate his next [Reincarnation].

This time, he promised himself, he would proceed with caution. Every choice, every step, had to be focused on growth and accumulating more [Credits].

After all, without the system's [Starter Bundle], he'd be stuck with the pitiful [7 Credits] he'd earned in his last life barely enough to window-shop.

Finding the [Reincarnate] button, he pressed down.

[Beep!]

[Item Detected: Element Affinity Choice (Basic). Use it now?]

[Use it.]

[Whoosh!]

A fresh interface appeared. Three glowing icons floated into view:

A green leaf veined with glowing white lines, softly fluttering in an unseen breeze.

A tiny snowflake spinning slowly, radiating an icy chill.

A pulsing bolt of yellow lightning, crackling with tiny sparks.

Kael instinctively understood: [Grass], [Ice], and [Electric].

He frowned. His ideal choices were [Dragon] or [Ghost] types.

Still, the current picks had their merits.

"Grass-types are low-maintenance, often photosynthetic. But a risky roll there are too many weak species."

"Ice-types hit hard and counter Dragons, but they're glass cannons."

"Electric-types… strong, fast, flashy, with cool moves. Yeah, I'll go with that."

Smirking, Kael tapped the lightning icon.

[Zap!]

A small jolt of static jumped from the glowing symbol.

"Nice animation," he murmured.

[BZZZZT!]

Suddenly, a deep hum filled the space. A swirling black vortex opened in front of him, leaking red-glowing particles like embers in smoke.

Just looking at it made his soul tremble.

Without hesitation, he reached out and touched it.

The black mist surged forward, engulfing his body, spinning faster and faster—

—and with one last pulse of light, Kael vanished from the white void.

[Reincarnation Initiated…]
