Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 – “Secrets Served Hot”

The cafeteria was its usual mess—noisy, chaotic, filled with hungry students and terrible smells. Kei sat alone at a table in the corner, silently praying for a normal lunch.

No flirting. No drama. No demons.

Then came him.

"Hey, sunshine~" Az sang, sliding into the seat next to him with a full tray of food and a wicked grin.

Kei flinched. "Can you not call me that? And don't sit so close."

Az leaned in anyway, their shoulders brushing. "Aww, don't be shy. Everyone here should know how cute you are when you pout."

"Az," Kei hissed, scanning the room nervously, "stop it. You're drawing attention."

Too late.

Whispers had already started. People stared. Some were clearly jealous, others intrigued. But one group, in particular, didn't like Az's vibe at all.

Especially Rael, one of the school's cocky gang boys.

"Tch. Show-off," Rael muttered as he walked past them, bumping Az's arm on purpose.

Az barely flinched, casually scooping rice into his mouth.

But Rael wasn't done.

On his way back from the counter, Rael suddenly stuck out his foot—

Thud!

Az tripped, his tray flying into the air, food spilling everywhere—onto his shirt, his pants, and even on Kei's lap.

The cafeteria went silent.

Kei gasped. "Az!"

Az slowly stood up, food dripping down his chest, soaked in soup and embarrassment.

Rael laughed. "Oops. Guess you should watch where you're going, pretty boy."

Kei jumped to his feet. "That wasn't an accident! You did that on purpose—!"

Az raised a hand. "It's fine, Kei."

He smiled. Too calmly.

Kei recognized that smile.

That wasn't his normal flirty smirk.

That was the dangerous one.

Az turned to face Rael, who was already grinning smugly with his friends.

"You know," Az began in a voice far too sweet, "I could crush you right now."

Rael scoffed. "Try me, princess."

Az stepped forward—just enough for their eyes to lock. And for a brief second, his irises shimmered red—so fast no one noticed.

Except Kei.

Az tilted his head. "How's your secret boyfriend, by the way? The one you meet behind the gym after basketball practice?"

Rael froze.

His friends blinked. "Huh?"

"You know, the one you send shirtless selfies to using a fake account named 'HotWolf22'?" Az continued, smiling innocently.

Laughter broke out.

"What the hell?!" someone shouted.

"Wait—seriously?!"

Rael turned pale. "Shut up! You're making things up!"

"Oh?" Az leaned closer. "Should I also mention the love letter you wrote to your gym coach? Or the fact that you practice kissing on your pillow every night while playing boyband music?"

The cafeteria erupted in gasps and screams.

Phones were out. Students were recording. Rael's gang scattered, laughing or abandoning him.

"Shut up!!!" Rael screamed, his face red with fury and shame. "How do you know all that?!"

Az just winked. "Let's just say I'm good at reading people."

He turned and walked back to Kei, casually brushing off the food from his shirt.

Kei looked horrified. "You… you didn't use powers, did you?!"

"Not exactly." Az gave him a devilish grin. "I just have a gift. Let's call it... uncovering truths."

"You embarrassed him in front of everyone."

"He embarrassed me first." Az shrugged. "I call it even."

Kei groaned, hiding his face. "I told you not to make a scene…"

Az leaned in again, voice low. "You're cute when you worry about me."

"Stop flirting with me in public!" Kei snapped, cheeks burning.

Bel watched silently from across the cafeteria, sipping his coffee as usual—expression unreadable. But Kei didn't miss the flash of annoyance in his eyes.

Two demons. One human. And a school that has no idea what kind of chaos just enrolled.
