Chapter 8 - Chapter 7: Will of the Eternal Flame

Like a comet falling from the sky, Solonar lands upon the beach. His flames melt the sand, turning it to glass. Solonar looks around the man in front of him and sees bloodied sand and body parts buried beneath it.

With a look of disgust, Solonar says,

"Can you hear me? How much of you is still human?"

The man does not reply. He merely glares at Solonar with envious eyes and says,

"Why? Why are you people… why are you born with so much more than the rest of us!? You were born with such glorious power, and I had to get mine out of the mud… My unsightly power was bestowed upon me so that it would raise my worth as a slave… Do you have any idea how free you all are!?"

Solonar reaches out his hand and gently places it on the man's shoulder, saying,

"Shhh, it'll all be okay…"

A sinister smile creeps across his face as he continues,

"Corpses don't talk, y'see…"

The man begins to burn alive, unable to do a thing—writhing in agony as he is consumed by golden flames. Solonar turns his back and begins to walk away, but then the black anchor mark on the man's neck begins to glow brighter. The clean ocean water surrounding him becomes a murky green. Unable to extinguish the flames, it merely boils and turns to steam.

The man stands on his feet and says,

"The burning still hurts like hell… but the water alleviates some of the pain…"

His eyes glow intensely as we enter Solonar's mind—visions of Adaman and Selena flash. The man's voice echoes inside Solonar's head:

"Aren't you jealous? Don't you just envy them? I know deep inside your heart is a mountain of envy—because a noble of such high standing like yourself is losing to pathless commoners. I couldn't imagine how you must've felt, losing to them in the Top Ten selection round."

Solonar gazes into the darkness, unresponsive, and then begins to laugh—loudly and manically. Holding his stomach, he speaks while closing his eyes:

"You think, even for a moment, that I envy them? How insolent. Why would I waste valuable time envying the strong… when I could climb up and dethrone them?

I admit, I stayed silent because I wanted to hear what kind of nonsense you had cooked up. But to see that you had no idea what you were even talking about is just… disappointing…"

Solonar's body erupts in bright orange flames. The flames rise higher and higher—slowly turning gold.

Scarlet wakes up and walks to the bathroom, thinking to herself,

"Damn… it's really hot tonight…"

She goes to turn on the sink, but her hand is burned. She recoils and says,

"That was hot… wait, but I have high heat resistance. That shouldn't have burned me… It would take a heat high enough to burn down the house to do that—but if that was the case, the house would be on fire…"

Scarlet rushes to check on the others and realizes they're sound asleep. Caitlyn is wrapped up in her blanket, and Ellie is holding her metal alarm clock. Scarlet reaches to grab the clock—then reels back in pain.

"That's hot too!? What's going on here!?"

Solonar's eyes glow bright with anger as he walks toward the man.

"A fool like you should've never enrolled in a place like this…"

He lifts the man by the throat, cooking his insides as he reaches into his pocket, taking his ID and number badge.

"You don't deserve these… Now die like your brethren, you Sin-Bourne trash."

Solonar kills him, barely managing to leave the body intact.

"Whew… not roasting him is way harder than it looks…"

Solonar glances around at his flames.

"I'll put these out and then take a dip to cool off… before I accidentally kill any of the others."

Scarlet is on the floor, rolling in pain. She tries to scream—but no sound escapes. She looks around Ellie's room, noticing a strange padding on the walls. Scarlet falls unconscious, sweating profusely as her body slowly begins to cool.
