Chapter 13 - Strengthening the “En”

Jeno casually brushed the sawdust from his coat, his brows knit tightly.

He didn't speak right away.

Not because he feared answering—

But because deep down, he knew…

He couldn't betray Maha Zoldyck's will.

And what Roy had just shown with his "En" was far beyond anything Jeno expected.

"A year ago, this kid hadn't even opened his aura nodes…"

"Now he's already projecting a usable En?!"

He stared at Roy with disbelief, his tone low and questioning.

"Roy… tell me the truth. What happened this past year?"

Jeno wasn't here to scold him for disrespect.

In the Zoldyck family, power was the only language that mattered.

If you were strong, even defiance was celebrated.

After all, Killua once threatened Canary.

He even disobeyed his own mother, Kikyo—told her to shut up and move.

And she had smiled, excited that her son was becoming more like a cold-blooded assassin.

Such was the twisted legacy of the Zoldyck clan.

And Jeno understood that Roy, too, was starting to bear its weight—

Albeit in his own, unusual way.

Roy tilted his head, feigning surprise.

"Is there anything strange about it?" he said.

"I woke up, had hands… so I trained."

Jeno: "…"

Roy shrugged nonchalantly.

"If you don't believe me, go ask the old man yourself. Don't bother me."

At that moment, from a worn rocking chair not far off, an old man lying in the sun muttered:

"Ah-choo! Who's talking shit about me again?"

Maha Zoldyck sneezed, rolled over, and continued watching his cartoons.

Jeno's expression twitched.

He knew Roy wasn't going to explain anything. And maybe he didn't need to.

A Zoldyck is still a Zoldyck.

Secrets or not, Roy was still family—still part of Kukulu Mountain.

Jeno walked out from behind the tree and spoke more calmly this time.

"You're right," he said. "There are people in this world who, once they awaken their Nen, can make miracles happen with just effort and talent."

"Isaac Netero, Ging Freecss… even Meruem—the Chimera Ant King."

"All of them were born monsters."

Roy listened with arms crossed, leaning lightly on his sheathed staff-saber.

He could sense the shift in Jeno's tone.

Now came the real lesson.

Jeno continued, serious now.

"But only a living genius is a true genius."

"Your En is impressive," he admitted, "but it's still too rough."

"You're leaking aura. Your precision is off. It's wide, but lacks density."

"The issue isn't your potential—"

"—it's your foundation. You haven't understood Nen deeply enough."

He pointed toward Roy's feet.

"En should expand naturally, like breath, not forced like muscle."

"Right now, you're stretching it with brute will. You're wasting Nen."

Jeno wasn't wrong.

Roy had used the Fujitora template to brute-force mastery of "En," mimicking Observation Haki to spread his aura perception.

But Nen wasn't Haki.

Though both manipulate life energy, their principles differ in execution.

⚙️ Nen vs. Haki: A Short Contrast

Haki (One Piece):

Kenbunshoku (Observation) – Senses intent and location.

Busoshoku (Armament) – Aura reinforcement and bypassing defenses.

Haoshoku (Conqueror's) – Overwhelms weaker wills.

Nen (Hunter x Hunter):

Ten (Focus/Defense)

Zetsu (Concealment/Recovery)

Ren (Power Output)

Hatsu (Personal Ability)

En (Territory Sensing) – Combines Ten and Ren for range awareness.

Roy's "Circle" was basically "En," but translated through his panel's interpretation of Kenbunshoku Haki.

So yes—it worked, but not optimally.

Jeno, a Transmuter and master of En in canon, had once shown the ability to extend his En to an insane 300 meters.

He wasn't just nitpicking. He was trying to help.

"Roy," he said finally, "let me help you refine your En. Increase the range, tighten your control. I know you hate help, but—"

"No."

Roy cut him off instantly.

From the moment he decided to stand on his own feet, he swore never to rely on anyone from Kukulu Mountain again.

Even Maha only gave guidance when Roy asked for it.

This independence wasn't pride—it was principle.

Jeno was stunned. "You don't even want a bigger En?"

"I do," Roy replied calmly. "But I'll do it my way."

With that, he mentally called up the panel.

On the translucent screen only he could see, [EXP: 7 Points] shimmered softly.

[Use 7 EXP to Strengthen "En" Skill?]

→ Yes ✅

Roy closed his eyes. His aura shivered—then expanded.

Not erratic.

Not forced.

A breath. A tide. A domain.

The air around him thickened like pressure before a storm, and for just a moment, the entire area within a 50-meter radius became part of Roy's senses.

[System Notification: En Skill Upgraded!]

- Radius: 50m → 100m

- Precision: Increased

- Detection Sensitivity: Enhanced (Can now detect micro-emotions and killing intent)

Roy smiled faintly.

"See? Bigger."

Jeno stood still—shocked.

Not by the En's size, but by its stability.

This wasn't just talent. This was something beyond.

And he had a sinking feeling…

This blind kid might just surpass every Zoldyck alive.
