Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: First Soul Beast—Godslayer, Wind Baboon!

Rustle, rustle…

The sound of leaves grew louder. Zhang Lexuan narrowed her eyes, stepping protectively in front of Su Wen.

Soon, a troop of wind baboons appeared, leaping through the branches like a migrating clan.

The leader spotted Zhang Lexuan, froze, and bristled, baring its fangs.

"Wind baboons—the lead one just broke a hundred years, the rest range from a few to several dozen years," Zhang Lexuan said, looking at Su Wen.

But Su Wen stared in shock at one of the baboons.

[Wind Baboon]

[ Years: 14]

[ Element: Wind]

[ Potential: 8]

[ Evaluation: Godslayer Fated—best chance of reaching godhood among soul beasts. Catching it is a huge win…]

"I want that one!" Su Wen pointed.

"Which one?" Zhang Lexuan followed his finger, her expression serious.

Silver-white soul power surged from her body, revealing Soul Sage-level strength. The baboons all froze, trembling.

"That one!" Su Wen couldn't hide his excitement.

The baboons all moved aside, leaving only the chosen one, bewildered.

It tried to sneak away, but Su Wen's finger stayed locked on it.

"You're the one!"

Su Wen threw the white ball, which arced toward the baboon.

Buzz~

The ball turned into a beam of light, engulfing the baboon. Seconds later, the light faded, and the white ball vanished, leaving a stunned baboon behind.

"Got it!" Su Wen cheered.

With the capture, his first soul ring became a Wind Baboon—not so much a ring as his martial soul!

Roar~

The baboon growled at its clan, then retreated behind Su Wen, its eyes losing their bloodthirst, even looking a bit dazed.

When Su Wen checked its stats again, the data was much more detailed:

[Wind Baboon]

[ Level: 12]

[ Strength: 0.14]

[ Speed: 0.20]

[ Endurance: 0.14]

[ Defense: 0.10]

[ Skill: Wind Blade (Normal)]

[ Element: Wind (Normal)]

[ Potential: 8 (Excellent)]

[ Next Evolution: Storm Baboon]

It can evolve?!

Su Wen's eyes widened—no wonder it was a godslayer, the potential was off the charts. Even among thousand- or ten-thousand-year beasts, an 8 was rare.

He didn't know how to evolve it yet—maybe by raising its stats or soul power. He'd have to figure it out.

As for the stats—

0.14 meant every 100 years equaled one point. The wind baboon's strengths and weaknesses showed in the numbers.

Satisfied, he finally had time to observe his lucky wind baboon.

About a meter tall, covered in white fur, with strong arms, short legs, and sharp claws—just like a monkey, but its eyes were unusually bright.

After catching it, Su Wen felt even his own speed increase.

Apparently, capturing a soul beast also boosted his own stats.

"Let's go."

Zhang Lexuan waved her hand.

The other baboons fled.

"From now on, I'll call you Gale," Su Wen said, patting its head. At six, he was only slightly taller than it.

Roar~

Gale responded happily.

Zhang Lexuan smiled warmly and ruffled Su Wen's hair. "Let's go, little Wen. Now that you have your first soul beast, let's head back. Elder Xuan's been gone a while—could be trouble."

"Okay!" Su Wen nodded.

He frowned, remembering the hundred-thousand-year soul beast that would soon appear. Since he'd joined Shrek, he couldn't just watch, but how to help?

He'd have to stick close to Elder Xuan.

According to the original story, Elder Xuan got drunk and slept through the crisis. Overconfident, he nearly let everyone die—the most unreliable expert in Shrek history, yet still quite capable.

And as for the conspiracy theory—Elder Xuan secretly being a Holy Spirit Sect elder…

Su Wen's mouth twitched. That would make things interesting—a boss-level challenge.

He shook his head to clear the thought.

It wasn't hopeless. With Elder Xuan, one of the continent's strongest, only a five- or six-hundred-thousand-year beast would threaten them. A newly broken hundred-thousand-year beast? No way.

So, just keep Elder Xuan awake and ready!

Yes, that's the plan!

Su Wen smiled in satisfaction.

"In today's events, don't spread rumors. Don't ask about martial souls or other nonsense. Xiaotao… never mind, you do what you want."

In the camp, Zhang Lexuan looked around seriously.

"Don't worry, Senior Sister, we'll keep our mouths shut." A skinny boy pushed his glasses up, grinning.

"Yeah, right—you're the biggest gossip here. As soon as we're back, the whole inner court will know." A short-haired girl scoffed.

"You—you… that's so mean! Ruining my reputation!" the boy retorted.

"Hmph, bite me then!" the girl shot back.

The others smiled, casting curious glances at Su Wen.

Sure enough, this kid's talent was top-notch. Elder Xuan personally helped, Lexuan caught his first ring, plus a gag order—that said it all.

"Another monster for the Academy," someone sighed.
