Lucas and the Nebula Games team didn't pay much attention to online chatter like 'Kill the cliffhanger author' and other discussions.
This has become a habit for Nebula Games.
That is, to focus on making games.
Don't worry too much about what players are saying online, wait until the game comes out and then find out.
The main thing during the game development phase is to develop the game.
Of course, right now "Warcraft" doesn't have the map editor and the map editor community that will come later.
The basic settings for the whole game are already done.
All kinds of servers for multiplayer mode are set up.
At the same time, the matching system for RANK scores is also ready.
Maps are divided into two modes: regular matching and ranked.
There are quite a few maps for regular matching. Lucas has made about 15 so far.
As for ranked maps, Lucas picked some classic maps from the past like Twisted Meadows (TM), Turtle Rock (TR), Lost Temple (LT), King's Field (TS), Echo Isles (EI), Gnoll Wood (GW) because they needed to be balanced.
But these maps are not perfectly balanced.
For example, TR is like the home field for the Elf race, because the neutral monsters on this map are mostly turtles, and turtles have a passive skill, which is that they take less damage from melee attacks. The Orc race mostly uses melee troops, so it's hard to level up and play with others on this map. But the Elf race mostly uses ranged units with the help of Druids of the Talon's Faerie Fire skill (which lowers armor), so they have a natural advantage.
Then LT becomes the Orc's home field, because there is a building called the Fountain of Life on the map. If you get close, you can heal health. The strongest unit of the Orc race is the footman, so fighting near the Fountain of Life is good for them. They can also take it down early to get a lot of experience and good items.
Also, there is no tavern on this map. Some Human tactics can't be used against the Orc race, so they can make the most of their strengths.
You could say each map has its own special feature. This gave players a special view of "Warcraft" in the past: there are no unbalanced races, just unbalanced maps.
This is bound to happen, because each of the four races has its own special features.
So for ranked games, Lucas also added a BAN option.
Before the game, both players pick their race and then BAN maps. They can BAN maps they don't want to play, and then pick from the remaining maps.
After doing some planning, Lucas stretched and left the office.
Everyone in the team was relaxed in the break room because the game development was done for now.
They started playing "Warcraft" instead of "Monster Hunter: World".
"Hey, you're pulling your workers!"
"Don't block the path!"
"Use dust of appearance!"
"How can I help you!"
Anna, Rachel, Hector, and Edward sat side by side.
Human, Orc, Night Elf, and Undead, one for each.
The person they were playing against was using the Orc race.
Right now, they were getting wiped out by a level 6 Blademaster using Blade Storm.
After the Blademaster finished using Blade Storm, he used Wind Walk to disappear before the Mountain King could use his hammer.
"Hey, Anna, the Blademaster disappeared a long time ago, and you just used dust of appearance."
"Yeah, yeah, you've been playing for so long, and all you have is 1 Mountain King, 8 Riflemen, and 2 Knights!"
"Yeah, Anna, you're already at tier 3. You can make two more heroes, why haven't you?"
Anna, sitting in front of the computer, turned red in the face after hearing what her coworkers said.
"To be honest, I definitely can't make any heroes. I can't control them, and I can't level them up!"
"As for why I have so few troops, didn't you see my base? There are so many towers, anyone who comes dies!"
Rachel looked at Anna's screen and was speechless. "Anna, heroes are strong and have a lot of skills! You don't need to make it so hard. Select all your troops and then A-click somewhere, and then control the hero you want to play. The troops will automatically attack."
As a skilled "Warcraft" player, Rachel taught her A-click secrets.
"Boss Lucas, do you think I'm right?" Rachel asked Lucas, who had walked over.
"Well... For beginners, they should start with leveling up one hero, then heroes and troops, then multiple units, and finally managing things." Lucas thought for a moment and said some things that sounded useful, but also sounded useless.
If you asked him to play, he could, but if you asked him to teach someone else, he wouldn't know how.
It was a little surprising to him that these four people had been playing against a crazy computer for so long, and it seemed like they might not win.
"By the way, Boss Lucas, how are the "Warcraft" pre-sale numbers?" Hector asked.
When they heard Hector's words, the others also looked at Lucas with concern.
Everyone was worried about this.
"Warcraft" is the game that Nebula Games has invested the most in so far.
Mostly because the CG cost too much.
And the models were made with the standards of a normal RPG.
Didn't that cost a lot of money?
"You all know how good the game is. Why are you worried about sales?" Lucas said with a laugh.
But he still told them a little bit.
"We didn't do pre-sales overseas because there are some problems with approvals. They'll probably be online a week after China. But pre-sales in China have already reached over 3 million. It might be hard to make back the costs in the first day, but it's not a problem to make a profit in the first week, and that's without overseas sales." Lucas said with a smile.
Everyone was excited when they heard this number.
This number isn't the best that Nebula Games has ever done. The best is still "Minecraft", followed by "Monster Hunter: World".
But it was still clearly a big success.
The quality and content of the game, and the sales now, gave everyone a boost of confidence.
The whole team was full of confidence this time. They believed "Warcraft" would definitely be a game that was both popular and well-received, and that it would give a new meaning to the RTS game concept!
...
November 15th, "Warcraft" officially goes on sale!
After the playable demo before, "Warcraft" was extremely popular.
On the official blog, the fall of Lordaeron and Arthas became trending topics.
Many content creators made compilations of CG scenes from "Warcraft" on video websites, and they got a lot of views.
For players, whether they were attracted by the story or by the special gameplay, they were eager to try out this true RTS great.
