8:00 A.M. – My First Day on the Job
I had spent the last few days trying to shake the feeling that I was walking into a nightmare, but now, standing outside Oblivion Holdings Inc., the building was even more intimidating than I had imagined. The windows reflected the overcast sky, and the silence around me felt suffocating. I knew I had to go in, though. I was already hired, and there was no turning back now.
The elevator ride up to the top floor felt like an eternity. The doors slid open, revealing a sleek, futuristic interior, every surface polished to perfection. No human should be able to afford something like this — but then again, Diablo Von Bloodick wasn't exactly a normal human.
The same assistant from before led me through the labyrinthine hallways, and we finally arrived at Diablo's office. She knocked once, then opened the door. "Mr. Von Bloodick, your new assistant is here."
I could feel my pulse racing. I was about to meet the man who had completely upended my life. My job interview had been brief, cold, and clinical. I barely got a glimpse of his true self.
But now?
I wasn't sure what to expect.

8:10 A.M. – Entering the Lion's Den
"Come in," Diablo's voice echoed from inside.
I stepped inside the office, my heart pounding in my chest. Diablo was sitting at his massive desk, looking exactly like the picture from the newspaper. He wore a perfectly tailored suit, his dark hair slicked back, his red eyes gleaming with that same cold, otherworldly intensity I had seen before.
He glanced up at me, his gaze sharp and calculating. "Clark Evernight. On time. I'm impressed."
"Thank you, sir," I managed to say, trying to keep my voice steady despite my nerves.
Diablo gave a slight nod. "Sit." He motioned to a chair across from his desk, and I quickly complied, hoping I wasn't about to embarrass myself by tripping over the carpet.
I waited for him to speak again, but he remained silent, eyes never leaving me as if waiting for me to prove my worth.
I swallowed, trying to find my voice. "So, what's first, Mr. Von Bloodick?"
He leaned back in his chair, his fingers tapping lightly on the desk. "First, we'll go over your responsibilities. As my personal assistant, you'll handle everything from scheduling my meetings to sorting through paperwork." He paused for a beat. "And there will be a lot of paperwork."
My head spun. I hadn't expected so much responsibility right off the bat. But what was I supposed to do? I needed this job. "I'm ready," I said, trying to sound more confident than I felt.
He raised an eyebrow. "Ready, huh? We'll see."

9:00 A.M. – My First Task
Diablo handed me a large folder. "This is a contract that needs to be reviewed, signed, and delivered to the client today. You have two hours. If you fail, you can leave."
I opened the folder, my eyes scanning the contract. It was filled with legal jargon, but it didn't seem too complex. I could handle this, right? I just had to focus.
I glanced up at Diablo, who was still watching me with that unsettling intensity. He didn't say a word, but the weight of his gaze made it clear that failure wasn't an option.
I dove into the task, working quickly to understand the details of the contract. It wasn't long before I was so absorbed in the document that I barely noticed the time passing. My hands moved quickly, the paper in front of me becoming a blur as I worked to make sure everything was perfect.

11:00 A.M. – The Pressure Builds
I was so focused on getting everything right that I didn't notice Diablo's presence behind me until he spoke.
"You're doing well… for now."
I didn't look up, but his words gave me the confidence I needed to push through the rest of the contract. This was my chance to prove I could do this job. If I didn't, I'd be out on my ass in no time.
As I finished reading the final clause, I felt a sense of accomplishment. I had done it. I glanced up at Diablo, ready to show him my work, only to find him watching me with that same intense gaze, his red eyes gleaming. There was a flicker of something in his expression, something I couldn't quite place.
I stood and walked toward his desk, holding out the signed document. "Here you go, sir."
He didn't immediately take it. Instead, he looked me over again, eyes narrowing slightly. "Not bad, Evernight. I'm surprised."
I couldn't tell if he was being sarcastic or not, but I had no time to dwell on it. I had passed my first test. That meant I could stay… for now.

12:00 P.M. – A Moment of Tension
Just when I thought I had a moment to breathe, Diablo got up from his desk and walked toward the window, his back to me. "I want you to stay alert, Clark. This job isn't for the faint of heart."
I nodded, trying to stay calm. "I understand."
He turned around slowly, his gaze still sharp. "You'll also be taking calls for me. When I'm not available, you will answer for me. No excuses. Understand?"
"Yes, sir," I said quickly, my mind racing. This was getting more intense by the minute.
Just as he turned to face me again, his expression softened for the briefest moment. But it was enough for me to notice — just enough for me to realize that maybe, just maybe, there was more to this job than I had anticipated.

2:00 P.M. – The Pitfalls of My New Job
The day seemed to drag on as Diablo handed me task after task, each more complicated than the last. I was handling meetings, sorting through emails, even arranging his lunch. But what really got to me was how cold he was. His commands were direct and emotionless, as if he had no interest in anything beyond the business at hand.
I had barely made it through the first day when Diablo called me into his office again, his eyes scanning me like a hawk. "Clark," he said, his tone serious. "You're still here because you haven't messed up yet. But I expect perfection. No exceptions."
I swallowed hard, trying to push down the nervousness building inside me. "I won't let you down, sir."
He didn't reply immediately, just gave me one of those piercing looks that made it feel like he could see straight into my soul. And then, in a voice that was almost too soft, he said, "You might just surprise me after all."
