I woke up drowning in roses, not metaphorically but literally. The heat and the steam clinging to my skin is the first thing I felt when I gushed awake.
Rose petals were all over my face, and the room was filled with a faint scent of sandalwood that made my head spin.
My eyes started scanning the room, only to be blinded by the soft golden glow of a thousand lanterns above me. Everything was too much luxurious .
"Where am I ?" I muttered under breath, still trying to figure out how I ended up here.
Because this wasn't my studio apartment in Beijing nor my bathroom in my apartment.
And this definitely wasn't the crummy twin bed I passed out on after pulling an all-nighter writing the finale of my palace drama.
I then then glanced cunningly at myself trying my best not to panick.
"Huh, this is not my body …" I purred, touching my face and body simultaneously.
"Oh my goodness, why is my arm thinner than that of an unfed idol. Why the hell do I look so pale." I yelled, biting back a scream which nearly escaped on my lips.
My fingers clutched at silk sheets that draped over the edge of what appeared to be a freaking royal bath carved into marble.
My chest rose and fell in shallow, careful breaths. Every movement felt... foreign.
"What the hell…" I muttered, only to flinch at the soft, breathy sound of my own voice.
No, No ,no, no. This is not happening…what in the chasing jade is going on here. I thought to myself. Still glaring at the furnitures.
Then I jerked upright, that was a bad idea. The room spun, and I nearly passed out again. A sharp pain cracked through my skull, like a memory trying to dig itself out of my brain.
"Ahhhh.." I groaned in agony, hands clutching the side of my head.
Suddenly, like an arrow through the mist a name shot through my thoughts: Lian Yu. Concubine Lian Yu. Third-ranked male consort in the harem of Emperor Long Renzhao.
My eyes widened in awe, my chest raising and falling abnormally.
"What the heck..nope, why should this happen to me." I cried out.
I knew that name, because I'd written it.
Lian Yu was my character, The one I killed off by chapter fifteen for dramatic effect.
A stunning, icy beauty who had no allies in the palace, rumored to have seduced the emperor with just one glance. Poisoned by jealous rivals and forgotten like a flower out of season. And now... I was him?
"Nope. Nope nope nope," I whispered, laughing nervously as I stood—slipping instantly and landing with a loud splash.
I clung to the side of the bath, shivering. The air, despite its warmth.. felt like ice. A screen slid open nearby.
"Your Grace," a voice called politely. "His Majesty has summoned you to the Azure Hall. Please prepare to present yourself within the hour."
My brain shut down for a second. His Majesty? The Emperor? The man who's supposed to kill me with indifference, and then with politics?
Great, absolutely fantastic…now am stuck in some Jade emperor drama I wrote.
I stared at my reflection in the water, long dark hair falling like silk and a beautiful femine like face which I wish to be mine.
This wasn't a dream, it's a death sentence I can't escape unless I rewrite the story.
"Fine,I could work with this." I muttered under my breath.
Afterall , I wrote court drama for a living and now I just had to star in one.
And step one?Survive the Emperor.
