The meeting was taking longer than usual. I kept thinking of daphevat every given chance. I wanted to speak to her, this time not make use of the threats. There was a part of me that wanted to know the depth of her, and there was another part of me that was pissed and angry at her because she was associated with the same people who had caused this grief a long time ago.
"Alpha, we asked a question." one of the elders drew my attention to a lot of issues we were having with the jacks and our investments..
"We just have to do what we need to do to protect our investments."
"I don't think you know how grievous this is, Alpha. People don't want anything to do with us because of the revenge attack on the Red Moon pack."
"We have to show them why we are the best feat. I would not sit down here and watch you guys judge the decision I had to take. Those people murdered, and after all they have done in the past, their crimes would not go unpunished."
Another of the elders shifted in his seat." Capturing them and placing them in a dungeon was a far better move than causing a massacre. That has not happened since it happened."
I scoffed." capture you say?" I began. "How many of them can we capture without causing an uprising? "
"Still I think…."
"Don't tell me what is a good decision or a bad decision!!! For crying out loud, have you guys forgotten so soon how they would hire rogues to cause vandalism in the town or the quiet killings that were found later on, and it was clear that they did it? The signs were there and they were boastful about it. I made sure I took my time before striking back giving them a chance to stop what they were doing to us. What they have been doing to us. It is not like we werent strong to fight back but I wanted to be civil. And where has that gotten us? We were burying our dead, and there are people still grieving now. You sit there and tell me what I should and shouldn't do. You must all be joking… I have a right to protect this pack, and that includes eliminating the threat, which has been done. We should be talking about how to get our investments back and not wishing for horses." I yelled back at them.
They all apologized and it was sad that they were the closest people that should have understood why I did what I did. I had to protect the pack. My duty had always been more important to me, and it would be a shame if I couldn't do a good job, which may cause us to lose lives. When I think of the times and the number of people we have lost since the red Moon pack had decided to treat us as they would seem. It took me back to eighteen years ago. Exactly the time I lost my best friend. The woman who might now be Zara.
For a moment, I thought she might be faking and another reason can also be that she has been trying to remember. I didn't know what to think.
We made the final decisions on the meeting and I went for a nap. All of this thinking was going to send me to mine. hrave very soon. As soon as I woke up resting, the guard came knocking with so much force. I came out to attend to him the fear and hesitation said it all
Something was wrong and it was taking him time to speak.
"If you do not speak, I will make sure that you won't be able to use your tongue ever."
"The prisoners have escaped from the dungeon."
"What the fuck do you mean that they have escaped? What about the girl?"
"That includes her Alpha. The two of them had disappeared, they seemed to get past the spell that the dungeons had. And we tracked them to the bank of the sea; that was when their last footprint was seen."
"The sea?"
"Yes, we were able to find their clothes. We have to assume that they have drowned" My heart started beating unevenly. I had the worst form of imagery, the scenes that came up in my head only showed that I was thinking of the worst of the situation. I didn't want to imagine pulling her corpse from under the sea. I didn't know how long they had gone missing, but something told me that it had been long.
"Are you just finding out about this now? Amf you chose to sit until you gave me the news without going to find them. Have a search and rescue team find them even if you had to find their corpse." There was a reason the dungeons were built close to the seas. It wasn't a sea it was a lake. The lake of bones. No one had ever gone in and come out alive. It was another safe precaution for anyone who tried to escape the dungeons; when they found themselves in the sea, they wouldn't be able to find themselves to the surface until the water took them. It was a huge relief that criminals we had kicked in there had taken that route, and it was better than to stand trial and be executed in front of the people. They die anyway, and to think that I had someone who might be the best person I have had in my life since childhood, taking that route makes my skin crawl. Reminding me just how much of a bad decision it was. Someone I cared about was going to be turned up dead.
It didn't sit well with me "Taje the guards with you and search for them. If you have to go into the sea, I don't care. Find them."
Frank rushed to my side. "I am seeing the commotion outside. What's going on?"
"Daphne…I'm sorry. Zara had escaped from the dungeons and it turns out that she might be lost in that lake." I panicked. "I have to go find her.'
"Hell no, Xavier."
