Chapter 1 - Start of misfortunes

YEAR -5418

A town near a giant forest was in the midst of a battlefield.

A strong wind was blowing through the whole town, and an old man stood on top of a shabby old tower, giving his final words.

He raised his voice, his joints stiff and aching with almost no muscles left, wearing a white coat and pants with a red cap.

"Cough, cough! The day has finally come!" Using all his energy, he shouted as loud as he could, "To all my people, it was a great joy being mayor for 40 years of this sweet town!" His mouth curved into a smile as he added, "It's sad thinking about how our great joy is going to end."

"Because of some demons, we had to let our town perish." Taking deep breaths,

While he was taking breaths, a demon army was soon going to clash with each other.

He glanced to both sides, seeing thousands of demons approaching– the town was just unlucky to be between the fight of two demon kings.

"Dear God, was this your wish to let me and my people meet our end here?" he prayed, hoping some miracle would happen.

"Tonight, when we are going to die, we shall embrace ourselves with last joy, and I wanted to deeply thank you for being with me for the end of the journey," tears started to flow out one by one from his eyes.

"The precious time we spent together, I still remember when our town first won in the warriors' tournament," as he spoke, his expression was getting dull little by little.

After complete silence for 5 seconds, he spoke with the last bit of his energy.

"Do my people fear death?" he shouted.

"Nooooo!" the whole crowd shouted.

"What? I didn't hear," he said, putting his hand near his ear.

"Noooo, we never fear!" grabbing their hearts with eyes full of tears.

Seeing all his people's eyes, he knew they all feared.

He raised his hand; he yelled – all the demons had entered the town.

"If there is another life, I wish I would experience it with you all," his voice trembled.

All the townspeople stood in their places, waiting for their death; they all knew struggling was futile now.

The demons came, started destroying everything and killing everyone, penetrating all their hearts.

The mayor saw all his people being killed one by one, watching with sorrow in his eyes, hanging his head low.

A demon came behind him and penetrated his heart as he saw his people for the last time.

While a shabby house in the corner of the town was yet to be attacked by the demons.

A family was residing there; they were having their quality time without knowing what was happening outside their door.

The family had one healing mage, one swordsman, and last but not least, a small child over 1.5 years old.

"Did you wash your hands before touching him?" With her light sweet voice, holding a knife in one hand and an onion in the other, wearing simple clothes, near her belly was a small pocket with a small stick inside.

"You think I am that careless?" said a deep voice, from a well-built man with muscles, wearing leather clothes and showing many scars on his body, along with a long sword near his waist.

Sitting on a chair, he was holding the child in his hands, feeding him a bottle of milk.

"Wahh wahh waaaaaahh!" screamed with tears in his eyes.

"Honey, do we have spare milk?" he said, seeing the bottle had become empty.

"Oh, I forgot to bring extra!" she hit her hand on head and added, "I take care of him; you go and bring more milk," while giving a sweet stare.

He laid Fig down on the bed. Seeing no other options, he stood up and took steps toward the door.

"Will be back in a few minutes," he said, holding his hand on the doorknob, yawning while looking at his wife.

The door opened...

"Heheheheh! Hello, how are you doing?" said the demon with a wide smile, showing his big sharp teeth, a giant red body, and waving a hand at him.

"Ah sh–," his lips trembled while a shiver went cold down his spine.

Before he could speak another word, the demon grabbed his neck in its giant red hands, shattering his neck; blood rained in the house – almost no sound was made.

Near the door, the child witnessed his father's death, had not spoken a single word, nor made any sound; his whole body trembled, and his face went pale.

Stupidly, the demon started to eat the body without searching the house while making small sounds.

After chopping all the onions, she came out of the kitchen and heard noise.

'Eh, what are you eating alone, honey?' She saw blood on the floor and then saw a demon eating. 'Ahhhhh!' she screamed in thought; her chest started to beat fast, her eyes widened, and she held her scream with her hands over her mouth.

She quickly glanced around the room, thinking of a way to escape, and saw her child in the corner, behind the door, lying down (unconscious).

In a few seconds...

Then she noticed her pendant that was on the table near the door. Without a second thought, she started crawling without making a noise – it was her luck that the demon was eating while looking outside – and slowly approached the pendant.

Quickly taking the pendant from the table, she put the child on her lap, placed the pendant around the child's neck, and even wrote his name on it with blood.

Without wasting any further time, she activated the pendant's ability.

****

The pendant had the ability to teleport to a random place within a 1000-kilometer range.

It was made by a master blacksmith.

It was a one-time-use item.

****

She had received the pendant from an old knight as a reward for healing him.

When the pendant was activated, it emitted a bright white light shining through the house. Many demons noticed it and started approaching.

The demon quickly turned back, glanced at the scene, and ignited his spell, causing her to explode.

****

He was half vampire, half demon, giving him the special ability to crush humans from 10 meters away without touching them.

****

'Here we go again, ah, now I gotta share my food,' he mumbled to himself as he started eating at a rapid speed, leaving less food for his fellow demons.

The child was teleported to an 'old soul ghost forest,' also known as the whispering forest. The forest was in the southern part of the continent and consisted of many different species residing there, with a dense atmosphere and giant trees where sunlight rarely touched the ground.

Now that the child has entered the forest, what awaits him are mysteries.
