Chapter 3 - First day at work

After I arrived in Jade Pike City, I thought about staying somewhere—but reality hit fast.

The entire savings left behind by the previous owner of this body? It could barely keep me alive for a week.

So I made a decision. Either find a job or start a business.

Back on Earth, I'd seen what true power businessmen could hold.

Maybe it was time I showed this world... my power.

---

But before power and ambition, first came food.

I walked into the nearest inn and ordered a modest meal—just enough to give me energy to walk around, not enough to feel bloated. After finishing, I paid the innkeeper and stepped out onto the city streets.

Now came the big question: What should I do?

I wandered through the city and noticed dozens of odd jobs. Most paid little—just enough to survive. But I realized something.

> First, I must work.

Then, I'll build my business.

So I chose a job no one else wanted, one that strangely... felt aligned with my nature.

---

The job?

To serve a sick woman. Take care of her, feed her, complete daily chores.

Payment? Two copper coins per day.

---

The next morning, I arrived at the residence. An elder man greeted me with gratitude in his eyes—he was the woman's husband.

He introduced me to his wife and explained the tasks I'd be handling. He was about to leave on a business trip and needed someone trustworthy to care for her.

Naturally, I asked about his trade.

Turns out, he was involved in the handicraft business—a booming industry with fierce competition and generous customers. On this trip, he was heading to another city to sell their products.

---

And so, my new work life began.

First, I changed the pillow covers and bedsheets. Then I cleaned the room, swept the floor, and wiped the windows. After that, I prepared food.

A little later, the woman woke up. I offered her water, then fed her carefully, doing my best to be gentle and respectful.

She mostly stayed quiet and slept. She didn't interfere, didn't question. Just rested. And I kept at it.

By afternoon, I had completed all my work.

---

With some free time left, I turned my thoughts to cultivation.

If the first realm was about surpassing the limits of a mortal body, how was I supposed to do that?

> "I don't know."

So I began with what I did know—from Earth.

I dropped to the ground and did 50 pushups, then 50 pullups, and other basic exercises. It was hard. My arms trembled. My breath was ragged.

But I pushed through. I knew I had to.

When 50 became easy, I would move to 60. Then 70. And so on.

I still didn't know how to cultivate Qi, how to truly step into the first realm…

But I was searching.

> Who would've thought—

The answer would come to me... in the next chapter.

---

But before that—let me finish my day.

I wholeheartedly served her—fed her, cleaned for her, made sure she was cared for. I went to bed feeling satisfied.

For the first time in my two lives, I had worked—and even started exercising, something I had only dreamed of during my bedridden life on Earth.

I also had to admit:

The previous owner's body was surprisingly decent. To be able to push out 50 reps on the first try? Not bad at all.

---

And that… was how my first day at work ended.
