Chapter 2 - The world has changed in two thousand years

Lucifer glanced at the streets through the windows of the car.

The tall buildings blocking the sunlight cascading the shadows on the road, people and vehicles moving around like ants in a row, it was like he came to a parallel version of the earth.

Yes, he knew all of this existed, he had already absorbed the memories of someone. But he didn't absorb that person's emotions, feelings, and his personal life. He wasn't interested in that.

So when he saw the modern world through his own eyes, it was as if you were visiting the places that you once saw on television.

'Maybe I really should have listened to Hades haha, it really would have been exciting to see it by myself…'

A few moments passed in silence. Neither Alex spoke, nor Lucifer bothered to start a conversation.

The car suddenly screeched, halting before a tall apartment building. The structure was around seventy feet tall.

Lucifer broke from his thoughts and stepped out of the car and Alex followed.

Lots of people's heads suddenly turned toward the car. The car was jet black, and stylish which inadvertently attracted the attention of the passerbies.

Their eyes lingered for a while, especially on Lucifer. His appearance was nowhere near common, white silvery hair, and fair skin that somewhat looked like it lacked blood but nonetheless amplified his beauty. His whole existence demanded attention.

Alex chuckled inwardly looking at the open mouth of people who were passing by.

'Is this what master Hades meant by the walking personification of the seven carnal sins?'

Meanwhile, Lucifer himself was busy capturing the beautiful garden around the apartment. It might be an understatement to call it a garden, it was a mini park in itself.

The garden was full of greenery. Large Mongolian trees were encircling the walls that surrounded the building, from inside. Its glossy green leaves and fragrant white flowers further enhanced its view.

There was a small fountain in front of the entrance of the building. And the pathway seemed to be paved by the evenly cut stones.

The whole environment looked rather anachronistic as if someone removed the castle and placed a modern building in its place.

Alex who returned after handing the key to the nearby watchman to park the car, looked amusedly at Lucifer. Perhaps even the devil liked beautiful things.

Lucifer's head turned when he felt a slight tug at his jacket from his back. It was a little girl, probably around five or six. She was wearing a long frilly dress and her hair was cascading down to her shoulders.

"Big brother!! Play with me! Hehe!" She said in a cute voice while still tugging his clothes.

Alex was already sweating thinking what was going to happen. But contrary to his thoughts, things didn't go as he was expecting.

Lucifer bent his knee and lowered himself to her level.

"Big brother is busy right now, I'll play with you later okay?"

He smiled gently as he patted her head.

"Really?"

"Really!"

He snapped his fingers and something that looked like a doll of a bear appeared on his hand. It's one ear was missing and the face was completely disfigured.

"...what is this?" The girl tilted her head adorably.

"It's nothing" Lucifer chuckled wryly and waved his hand making the doll disappear, 'I forgot that I suck at creation magic…'

"Wow! it disappeared!"

The girl exclaimed, jumping up and down.

"Kaya!", A woman in her late thirties walked hurriedly towards the little girl, "Don't run away like that. You scared me for a while you know?"

She said exhaling deeply.

"Mama! Brother showed me magic!!"

Kaya pointed her tiny hands towards Lucifer waving up and down.

"Ahh! Sorry for the trouble!" Kaya's mother bowed her head slightly.

"It wasn't a trouble. She's a cute girl." Lucifer said while standing up.

After a while Kaya and her mother left, albeit unwillingly.

After they reached a little far away, Lucifer exhaled deeply.

"Man, I hate kids…wait, is this why my old man hates me?"

Alex wanted to ask, 'How did you even reach that conclusion?' but he kept his mouth shut. It wasn't his job nor was he in a position to question Lucifer.

Lucifer looked at Alex, raising his eyebrows, "And why are you sweating?"

Alex's face was completely wet, sweat was streaming down his forehead like water.

"It's…it's nothing, your highness."

He replied anxiously and took out his handkerchief wiping out his sweat.

"Right…"

"W- we should go to see your apartment, Your Highness."

"Hmm, let's go."

After a while, the lift opened on the topmost floor revealing a wide corridor.

There were two doors on either side with the number plates, 701 and 702. Alex looked at the other door of 701 and the door wasn't looked.

"I didn't expect someone would rent this floor." He looked at Lucifer, slightly anxious about how he would react, "Looks like you'll be having some company, Lord Lucifer."

"I guess so…"

Lucifer didn't care about whether there would be neighbors or not. As long as they didn't bother him, it was fine.

'Sigh…I just can't understand what he's thinking.'

Alex shook his head and proceeded to open the door with his key.

The door creaked open revealing a wide room with a whitish theme. Although it hadn't been opened for a long time, it was surprisingly clean and dust-free.

There was a large fifty-inch television on the wall facing toward a set of sofas. In front of the sofa was a glass table decorated with intricate patterns. The wall opposite the television was mostly made up of black glass which could be opened leading to the balcony.

There were three other doors leading to the bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom.

Overall, it looked like a well-made house rather than an apartment.

"Please take this, Your Majesty" Alex handed over a smartphone, "It has the contact info of Master Hades and mine too. If you need any assistance just contact me."

"Sure."

Lucifer took the phone and placed it on the table.

"Well then, I'll take my leave"

Alex bowed subtly and excused himself after Lucifer nodded. Although Lucifer looked like he was at the age of his grandson he still felt a heavy pressure from him. Perhaps it was because of the hierarchy or some other reason but he didn't want to linger there anymore.

He scurried out of the room, closing the door slowly.

"Well, I guess I'll just go to sleep."

Lucifer said as he plopped onto the sofa.

After Lucifer left…

"Well, I got rid of the trouble hehe…"

Hades chuckled as he stood up from his chair. He picked up the remote from the table and turned on the television.

He walked to the refrigerator and took out an ice-cold beer, gulping it down.
