The vast ocean shimmered like molten gold beneath the rising sun, its surface stretching endlessly in all directions. In this remote stretch of sea, far from any inhabited island or shipping route, a lone figure sat cross-legged on the water's surface, rising and falling gently with the natural rhythm of the waves.
Jerry floated there in perfect meditation posture, though his expression suggested anything but inner peace. His brow was furrowed in concentration as he muttered complaints to himself.
"There wasn't a single fish in that river last night? Did someone clean out the entire waterway since my last visit to Mariejois?" He shook his head in disgust. "How incredibly stingy of them! Good thing I managed to catch a mermaid instead."
His attention turned inward to his system interface, specifically focusing on the lotus pod display that had been his constant companion throughout this journey. Four of the five crystalline grooves were already filled with Wall-breaking Beads, each one pulsing with a different colored light corresponding to his various enhanced abilities.
"Well, I've got the final bead now, but the last slot still isn't activating," Jerry mused, examining the system notification from his recent Mariejois fishing expedition.
[Ding! Congratulations on completing the second fishing mission in Mariejois.]
[Reward: Wall-breaking Bead obtained.]
He stared at the final empty groove in the lotus pod, then glanced back at the four filled positions. Each bead represented a significant breakthrough in his abilities—his three types of Haki, his Fishman combat techniques, and other enhanced skills that had grown alongside his adventures.
"Before, I was shooting blind. Now I'm still shooting blind," Jerry complained, running through the various system panels with growing frustration. "Are there any other skills I can actually upgrade with this thing?"
After flipping through countless interface screens without finding any obvious clues, Jerry found himself unconsciously playing with the newest Wall-breaking Bead in his mental interface. The crystalline sphere seemed to pulse with potential energy, waiting for its proper purpose.
"Alright, let's try the direct approach," Jerry declared to himself, adopting the tone of a sports commentator. "Jerry takes the shot for three points and the season record!"
In a moment of playful frustration, he mentally flicked the Wall-breaking Bead toward the empty groove like a basketball player attempting a perfect shot. The bead traced a beautiful arc through the digital space before landing directly in the center of the previously inactive slot.
Jerry fully expected the bead to bounce back out as it had during his previous failed attempts. Instead, he watched in amazement as the crystalline sphere settled into the groove with a satisfying click, fitting as perfectly as if it had been crafted specifically for that position.
"What the hell?!" Jerry exclaimed, frantically trying to extract the bead with his consciousness. "This is like one of those rigged arcade machines that eats your tokens!"
But the Wall-breaking Bead remained firmly embedded, completely unresponsive to his mental prodding. The moment it had locked into place, Jerry felt something fundamental shift within his system interface—like a computer freezing mid-operation.
"Come on, give me some kind of reaction!" he pleaded, breaking out in a cold sweat. "Did this piece of junk system just crash on me? Where's the universal restart button when you need it?"
The entire interface had become unresponsive. Jerry couldn't switch between screens or access any of his usual functions. In desperation, he resorted to the time-honored tradition of percussive maintenance.
"When in doubt, try physical force," Jerry muttered, raising his hand and giving himself a solid smack on the forehead.
[Error... Error... System recalibration in progress...]
"Ah? What now?" Jerry blinked as garbled text began scrolling across his vision, flickering between readable messages and incomprehensible code fragments.
After several tense moments of digital chaos, the system finally stabilized and displayed a coherent message:
[Detected: All tasks in the primary quest chain have been completed.]
[Unlocking: Limitless Breakthrough Protocol.]
Suddenly, all five Wall-breaking Beads embedded in the lotus pod began emitting brilliant light. The individual beams connected to form a complex pattern, revealing a perfect five-pointed star that pulsed with rainbow-colored energy.
"Finally, some progress," Jerry said, experimenting with the newly responsive interface. After confirming that all normal functions had been restored, he focused his attention on the mysterious pentagram pattern.
Following his instincts, Jerry began manipulating the star formation, dragging one of the beads along the interconnecting lines of light. When he moved the azure bead representing his "Sovereign of Water" ability toward the central multicolored nexus, an incredible surge of power erupted from within him.
The previously calm ocean around Jerry suddenly exploded into motion. Massive waves hundreds of meters tall rose from the sea's surface, creating a temporary mountain range of water that stretched to the horizon. The raw display of power was so overwhelming that even Jerry felt momentarily stunned by its intensity.
With a flash of his enhanced eyes, Jerry immediately calmed the raging waters, returning them to their natural state. He glanced toward the towering Red Line visible in the distance and chuckled softly.
"So that's how it works," he said with growing excitement. "I can now choose any ability for a breakthrough enhancement?"
After several minutes of careful experimentation, Jerry confirmed his theory. The pentagram interface allowed him to select and dramatically enhance any of his existing capabilities by channeling the combined power of all five Wall-breaking Beads.
"But what if I try something different?" A mischievous idea occurred to him as his attention shifted to a particular attribute that had been steadily growing throughout his journey but had never received focused enhancement.
"Hehe, that definitely works," Jerry grinned, clenching his fist and marveling at the incredible sensation of power flowing through him. In a flash of movement that left barely a ripple on the water's surface, he disappeared entirely.
Fishman Island - Black Star Pirates Temporary Base
Jerry strolled casually into the main hall of their temporary headquarters, stretching and yawning as if he'd just woken up from a peaceful night's sleep. The other crew members were already gathered around a table covered with newspapers and intelligence reports.
"Boss Jerry!" Skull exclaimed, pointing dramatically at the morning newspaper. "Did you do this?!"
"Me? I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about," Jerry replied with exaggerated innocence, waving dismissively. "I spent the entire evening here on Fishman Island enjoying the local nightlife until dawn. I have a perfectly solid alibi."
The newspaper's headline blazed across the front page in massive letters:
"SHOCKING ATTACK ON MARIEJOIS!"
"CELESTIAL DRAGON MURDERED IN HOLY LAND!"
"MYSTERIOUS WATER SPIRIT LIBERATES MERMAID SLAVES!"
Skull turned to look at Jerry with obvious skepticism, then pointed two fingers at his own eyes in the classic "I'm watching you" gesture. "Don't try that innocent act with me! Your water clone techniques might fool outsiders, but I know your tricks by now!"
"Alright, alright, enough speculation," Jerry said as another version of himself appeared at the hall's entrance like a ghost materializing from thin air. "I'm going to get some well-deserved rest while we wait for the real show to begin."
The Jerry standing in the hall quietly dissolved into water and vanished, while the one at the entrance winked and bounded toward his quarters with superhuman speed.
Skull stared at the empty corridor, then turned back to Brook with an expression of resigned exasperation. "Brook, everyone else is off having adventures. Aren't you planning to join them?"
"Well, I was considering—" Brook began, but his response was cut short by the sound of thundering footsteps approaching their hideout.
"WHERE IS JERRY?!"
The booming voice reached them before its owner appeared. Jinbe burst into the hall like a blue hurricane, his usually composed expression twisted with frustration and what looked suspiciously like embarrassment. His eyes swept the room frantically as he searched for his target.
"Jinbe-san? What's wrong?" Skull and Brook asked simultaneously, both startled by the Sea Knight's obviously agitated state.
Jinbe took several deep breaths, visibly trying to control his emotions. After a moment, he seemed to regain some of his usual composure and slammed a fresh newspaper down on the table.
"There's no doubt he was responsible for this incident," Jinbe declared, his tone mixing gratitude with exasperation.
"Um... what's the problem exactly?" Skull asked, leaning forward with obvious curiosity. "I mean, rescuing a mermaid from slavery sounds like a good thing, right?"
"Oh, I'm incredibly grateful for that part," Jinbe nodded solemnly.
His expression then shifted through several complex emotions before he finally spoke again: "But that's not a reason for him to spread nonsense!"
Hearing this, Skull immediately pulled up a chair and sat down with the eager expression of someone settling in for premium gossip. "What's wrong? What's wrong? Tell me, and I'll help you scold him!"
"Ahem... Anyway, I don't know what he said, but that mermaid girl is sticking to me now..." Jinbe clenched his fists, then unconsciously loosened them, and it was obvious that he was in a very complicated mood.
