Chapter 1 - Zhirui

I closely look at the monitor screens, trying to find where the problem is. If Lexin were here, it would already be solved. Unfortunately, she needed to leave for New York for a business trip.

Although we graduated from the same school, she is on a next level. Her skills are far from mine. She is the best hacker in the world and I am proud to be the second one.

The third one is her best friend Luo Qingxue, who is also a well-known writer. They have known each other since they were in diapers.

Back to finding the problem, I spot one screen I haven't noticed before. I walk to it and take a close look. "Caught you," I whisper, grinning.

"Found something, Jer?" Lucy asks me and I turn around to face her. She notices my grin and smiles. "You found him." I nod and her smile grows bigger.

"On it." She sprints towards the other computers while shouting at the rest of the team to get to work.

Thankfully, everyone working under X is a beta since she hates omegas and doesn't like alphas for their personalities. Well, everyone except me.

I've been hiding the fact that I am an omega since I presented as one. I got my first heat when I was 16 and started taking suppressants since.

Yes, I damaged my health and made my heat more irregular than before but it was worth it. As long as Lexin doesn't know, it's alright.

Someone pats me on the shoulder and I turn around. "We found him. He lives in a small apartment, near the police station. I must say, he chose a good place to hide. I sent you the location." I smile.

"Thank you, guys. I will treat you to dinner tonight." I shout to everyone, making sure they hear me.

A pair of hands wraps around my shoulders as I shiver. Turning my head to face the person, I flinch.

"You're inviting everyone except me? That's not nice of you." Lexin says, pretending to be hurt.

"W-what are you doing here? You were supposed to be in New York till..." "Today." she finishes my sentence, smiling.

"It's already Thursday?" I ask, unsure. She nods, her smile disappearing. "Oh my, for how long have you stayed here? How long did you sleep? Did you even eat anything?"

"Please, stop asking me so many questions at once. I have been here for 2 days nonstop. I didn't eat anything since I needed to keep an eye on the situation. As for sleep, you know very well that I have insomnia."

"So, you're telling me that you stayed here for two days without eating or sleeping?" she asks, looking pissed. "I had a banana milkshake." "You call that a 'proper meal' ?"

"Yeah?" "Wrong answer." I push her away and turn around to face her. "Oh, come on! It's not that important." I reply but noticing her reaction, I regret it immediately.

"Everything about you is important! You know I care about you." I turn around, unable to look at her. 'Of course you care. As a friend.'

"Let it be. I need to take the pills." I say, trying not to sound hurt. "Zhirui..." "I said, let it be Lexin. Don't make me repeat myself."

I start walking towards the restroom but sense her following me. "Lexin." "Yeah?" "Stop following me. I'll be right back."

I enter the restroom and lock the door. As much as I love her, sometimes, I really can't stand her. I know that she cares about me but that only keeps giving me fake hope.

I take out the bottle with 'Vitamin supplement' written on it. Of course, it isn't true.

The pills inside are suppressants for Omegas. Usually, Omegas should take them only if they are in heat and max two pills per day.

Unfortunately for me, Lexin hates the smell of omega pheromones. That's why I take them almost daily and in definitely higher doses than recommended.

I throw three pills in my mouth and swallow them. Filling the glass I brought with water, I sighed. I drink the water and put the bottle back in my pocket.

Unlocking the door, I freeze. Lexin is standing right next to them, looking at me with those beautiful purple eyes.

"What are you doing here?" I ask after closing the door behind me. "The rest of the team has already gone to eat dinner. I was sent to tell you to come."

I smile, imagining them telling her to bring me there. "Please tell them that I am not coming," I tell her, already walking towards the exit.

"Nope, you're coming." She says while holding my wrist. "Let me go, Lexin. I need to sleep first if you expect me to be at work tomorrow."

She sighs, looking visibly annoyed. "Alright, but don't expect me to be 'alright' with this behavior. Next time, you're coming."

"Sure. Good night." I reply. "Yeah, good night." I leave the building and call a cab. After telling the driver the location, I made myself comfortable.

I arrive at my apartment 15 minutes later. After taking a warm shower and switching to my pajamas, I lay down on my bed.

I always have sleep pills and a glass of water on the bedside table, making company to the lamp and a photo of the three of us.

Me. Lexin. Qingxue.

The reason I never told Lexin about me being an omega or about having feelings for her is the fact that she takes me as a friend.

A good friend. When we got to know each other, she mentioned having trouble finding trustworthy people and that she was glad to meet me.

I want to stay by her side forever. I don't care if it is like a friend or something else. As long as I can be near her.

I take the sleeping pill in my hand and swallow it with the water. As I feel the pill taking effect, I close my eyes.

I can't let her know. Never.
