So, I guess this is the end? Honestly, the ending turned out a lot different from what I remember. The core's still the same, but so many parts got left out, and this current wrap-up feels pretty unsatisfying.
In the version I had in mind, the scene with the green flashlight wasn't supposed to be the final point at all. After they got it, the natural disasters kept getting worse. Huang Jinghe's parents even died inside the base while on duty. And the mission to destroy Miaolin—where Lao Shi was—wasn't skipped like here. It actually had its own full arc, where the group met Lao Shi again, worked with him, and in the end, he either shot himself or was killed, because by then he'd already mutated. After that, the destruction of Green Forest and the other strongholds got skipped over.
There was also an arc where they directly encountered another reborn character from the government side, plus two big migrations when Base City A could no longer be lived in. The first migration was underground, the second one above ground, and during that last move, the natural disasters were beyond anything believable. By then, humanity had shrunk down to just a tiny fraction, because during the second migration, all the scattered survivors were basically forced to gather in one place.
So yeah, the ending I remembered was a lot darker compared to this one. That's also why, back in the introduction, I wrote, "And when the final catastrophe hits? No one could have seen it coming." It matched the impression I had at the time. Seeing how this ended instead, it doesn't line up at all.
Of course, there's a chance I mixed this story up with another natural disaster apocalypse novel. But the thing is, I've only read three that fit that theme: this one, Jing Shu's story in The Cube Queen's Apocalypse Feast, and then Jing Wan (I think that was the name?). Her story was really similar to Jing Shu's, except her golden finger came from a system, while Jing Shu had her Rubik's Cube space that was all her own. Those two novels had almost the same plot flow, so it feels strange that my memory doesn't line up. Or maybe it really was from some other novel after all.
Anyway, this novel is now complete. The Invincible Money-Grubbing Fairy is finished too, and so is My Daughter is the Empire's Lucky Charm. Right now (as of September 25), Reborn as the Fallen Idol, I Leaned Into the Chaos! also has less than 100 chapters left for me to translate. That means I only have five ongoing projects, two of which are still being serialized.
On my side, I got a job offer starting in October, but I still don't know the details. Because of that, I don't want to take on any new big translation projects just yet. If I do start working, I'll have to divide my time between work and translation, and I don't want to end up burning out. My original plan was to pick up another historical-themed novel after finishing this one, but that might be delayed. Or if I do take it on, I'll probably only publish two chapters per day instead of my usual five. Some people have also asked me to continue translating Glitched: Highway Apocalypse, and I'll see if I can fit that in.
But for now, until things are clear with work and I know how much time I can realistically spare, I won't be starting any massive projects with 400+ chapters (unless the chapters are really short). For longer ones, I'll probably cap it at around 300 chapters if the word count per chapter is heavier.
That's it from me for now. Thank you so much for reading this novel with me all the way through! If you've enjoyed this translation, I'd be super grateful if you could leave a vote or a review! ✧٩(ˊωˋ*)و✧
Even though I'm not contracted with Webnovel, your reviews really do help boost my account's visibility. Webnovel officially promotes only contracted authors, so for non-contracted translators like me, there are only a few "free boosts" available—like New Release, Fresh Stories, Potential Starlet, and Ongoing Originals. Out of these, I've only received three free boosts so far, and "Ongoing Originals" was only for I Became a Fairy And Lived Forever in the Fairy World.
Let me explain a bit:
New Release: For recently uploaded stories.
Fresh Stories: Highlights new content that Webnovel thinks might attract readers.
Potential Starlet: Stories that show potential for popularity based on engagement.
Ongoing Originals: A boost for serialized stories that are already being published.
Since my translations fall under the non-contracted category, I rely on things like your reviews, stars, and follower count to reach more readers. Even just a review or a star rating can make a difference in helping my account grow and reach a wider audience.
This is why your reviews are so critical:
Visibility: The most important thing is getting a visible star rating next to the novel's title, like the one you see on I Became a Fairy And Lived Forever In The Fairy World. To unlock this visible rating, a novel needs 10 reviews. That star rating significantly increases the story's credibility and visibility to new readers.
Platform Promotion: A high-quality star rating and consistent votes signals to Webnovel that a story is popular, which helps it show up more frequently in reader recommendations and searches.
Followers: Following my profile by clicking the little "Love" or heart-shaped button is another massive help! When the follower count goes up, it boosts my account's overall visibility, making the platform more likely to recommend my work.
Every review, vote, and follow directly helps this story reach more readers and keeps me motivated to bring you the next chapter!
How to help:
✨ On Web:
Scroll to the top of the novel's main page and click the blue "Write a Review" button near the bottom, under "You May Also Like." A pop-up will appear where you can rate the writing, characters, and world.
📱 On the App:
Tap the "Rate This Book" section (just below Fandom Rankings). A star rating box will pop up—add your thoughts and hit submit!
Honestly, translating is a labor of love for me. I spend almost all my waking hours at my laptop working on these stories. While I'm not trying to pressure you at all, I would be lying if I didn't say that the lack of job opportunities right now makes every bit of support a huge deal. Just to give some context—since I started uploading my translations here, I've only received two donations and one subscriber on the lowest tier of my Patreon. That's it.
Even if you can't—or don't want to—donate, leaving a review, giving a star rating, or following my profile still helps immensely. These actions help my account reach more readers and make the translation visible to a wider audience. Honestly, every little bit counts. Receiving a donation, reading a review, or seeing a new subscriber truly brightens my day, provides tangible support for all the time I invest and motivates me to keep translating more stories for everyone.
