Chapter 21 - Elvin School

Jin appears on the outskirts of a courtyard.

In the middle of this courtyard is a giant building with spires and what looks like students walking about.

Jin takes in the peaceful air and sun glinting on him, the trees scattered around the yard shimmering ever so slightly.

Jin looks around the outer bank of the courtyard, noticing he's in the middle of some city, and that the building must be the Elvin School he is to attend.

For being a school in a city, this place is quite peaceful.

Jin walks towards the building. Every step he takes closer to the building, more students stop and stare.

Jin glances around, and he notices the elves aren't hiding their ears.

Someone told me elves hide their ears when around someone who seems sketchy or dangerous.

Jin walks up to the front entrance and pushes through the door.

A small crowd stops and stares at him.

Jin pushes his way through. The whole time saying, "Sorry, excuse me."

Jin finally makes it to a front set of offices. A man in a nice brown suit was standing there smiling at him.

"You must be Kuroryu Jin! Why don't you come into my office for a small chat about the school before setting up your dorm?"

Jin shrugs and follows the man into his office.

The office is small and cozy. It had a little fireplace on the left wall and had a set of shelves on every wall.

The man sits at a desk in the middle of the room. He indicates for Jin to take a seat next to him.

Jin places the suitcase he brought with him on the ground and takes a seat.

"My name is Yurico Nagani. The students refer to me as Mr. Yurico."

Jin does a small bow.

"Nice to meet you, Mr. Yurico."

Jin looks around once more, seeing all the shelves filled with books, tabs through all of them marking spots in the books.

Jin notices a few family photos in the gaps between books.

"You have a family, Mr. Yurico?"

"I do! I have a wife and a son. My son is dating the second princess of the kingdom!"

Jin loses the small smirk he built up. He couldn't help but think of everything he did for Princess Sylvara.

"That's pretty nice, I'll have to find him and have a conversation."

Mr. Yurico has a small laugh before looking at Jin with a smile.

"I've never met a Dragon Spirit. To be honest, everyone thought Dragon Spirits were a legend."

"No need to make anything weird, I'm just the same as anyone else."

"I hope so. We don't have many rules regarding the dorms on campus. So by all means decorate and use your dorm however you would like."

Mr. Yurico takes a small piece of paper out.

"These are the rules the school has in place. Most of it is simple, for instance, we don't care how long you wish to stay out at night as long as you don't go into the opposite gender dorms past ten o'clock."

"That sounds reasonable, sir."

"Other than that, it's small things like acting with courtesy to others. Being civil in the halls and classes. The simple things."

"Sounds easy to follow."

"Well, I'm glad to hear that, Mr. Kuroryu.

Mr. Yurico stands up and grabs a key off a small docket behind his desk.

"This will be the key to your dorm! It is one of the suites on the top floor. It's about double the size of regular rooms."

"Sir, why give me this?"

"Because your grandfather said you would be studying something no one else could understand. So you'll need the room."

Mr. Yurico tosses the keys to Jin. The key says, "room 426".

Jin turns to the door. When Mr. Yurico says, "If you need something specific about Dragons, I have plenty of books here you can borrow if the library doesn't have it."

"Thanks, Mr. Yurico."

Jin grabs the handle of his suitcase and opens the door to the office, walking out.

Jin walks into the front hall, looking at the keys he was given when two people ahead of him stop and stare.

Jin looks up to see an elf boy with green eyes and blond hair, with a familiar girl with red hair and blue eyes latched to his arm.

"Sylph? Sylvara?"

Jin stares in bewilderment at the two.

The two stare back, their expressions unreadable.

Then the boy speaks up, "If you'll please excuse us, Mr. Dragon, sir."

Jin takes a side step over, and the two walk by Sylvara's face, drained of color. Her lips slightly parted but she avoided eye contact with Jin.

Jin stands there and looks at the keys, then his hands.

What did I expect?

She just wanted to see Dragon Spirits and go against her father.

I made reckless choices and got lucky.

Of course, she's alright.

Why would she stick around?
