Adam's smile faded, replaced by a grim, serious expression. "The catch is this, Frank. I'm not just building a team. I'm building a family. I need loyalty. I need a promise. I need a contract."
He produced a simple, leather-bound book from his pocket, the Book of Contracts, an artifact that looked like it belonged on a dusty shelf in a library. He laid it on a large, flat rock, a stone table in the heart of his sanctuary.
"This is the Book of Contracts," he said. "An A-tier artifact. You sign it, Frank, and you're bound to me. You're bound to this cause. You're bound to this team. You break the contract, you die. It's that simple."
Frank stared at the book, a swirl of emotions in his eyes. He was a man who had been betrayed by the system, a man who had lost everything because of a broken promise. He had a deep-seated distrust of authority, of promises, of contracts. But he also had a deep-seated need for justice, a need to fight, a need for a purpose.

A soldier in a war that we can win. I'm not asking you to forget your past, Frank. I'm asking you to fight for a new future."
Frank looked at the book, then at Adam, then at the endless sky of the Dimensional Land. He was a man who had lost everything, a man who had nothing left to lose. But he had a chance now. A chance to fight for something more than just vengeance. A chance to fight for justice.
He took a pen from his pocket, a simple, ballpoint pen. He signed his name on the first blank page of the book, a grim, determined look on his face. As the ink dried, a faint, blue light emanated from the book, a silent promise of loyalty, a silent bond. Frank was a member of the team. Frank was a soldier in a new war.
