I didn't come here to make friends. I came to survive.
The first thing I saw at my new school? A pink glittery water bottle flying straight at my face — and a girl chasing after it like her life depended on hydration. That girl? Namwan Surripan. Pretty. Loud. Trouble.
She said, "Oops, didn't see you there!"*
I said, "Buy new eyes."
We weren't meant to get along. I hated her smile. She hated my silence.
But the universe — or whatever cruel thing's in charge — wasn't done with us.Not even close
I shoved the water bottle into her hands and brushed past her like she didn't exist.
"Rude," I heard her mutter behind me. Whatever. She looked like the type who wore lip gloss to P.E. and cried over broken nails.
I walked into class, all eyes flicking my way — the new girl effect. A few whispers. A few stares. Typical.
"May Wongchai," the teacher called, scanning the register. "Transfer student. Take the empty seat by Namwan."
Of course.
She looked up with a smirk. "Fate really hates you, huh?"
I didn't reply. I dropped my bag, sat down, and stared straight ahead.
But I could feel her watching me. Like I was some mystery she just had to solve.
"Why so grumpy, Ice Queen?" she whispered.
"Why so nosy, Barbie?" I shot back without looking.
That shut her up. For a second.

Lunch was worse. I sat under a tree outside, headphones in, world off — until a shadow fell across me.
"Mind if I join?" Namwan. Again.
I stared at her. "Didn't your rich friends save you a seat?"
She sat anyway. "They're boring. You look like chaos."
I raised a brow. "You really don't know when to shut up."
"And you don't know how to smile."We glared at each other. Then — and I hate to admit it — she laughed. A real, snorty, unfiltered laugh.
It annoyed me.
And confused me.
Because I kinda liked it.
