Chapter 8 - The Power in Memory

After becoming a Gotei 13 member, the treatment improved significantly. The Thirteenth Division's dormitory became a single room, allowing things that couldn't be done at the True Spiritual Arts Academy to be done here. Amamiya Miyako drew his Asauchi. At this moment, he was about to take a crucial step: learning the true name of his Zanpakuto.

Sitting cross-legged, he placed the blade horizontally across his knees. During his four years at the True Spiritual Arts Academy, Amamiya Miyako initially didn't spend much time communicating with his Zanpakuto because he feared his Asauchi would transform into a true Zanpakuto too early. This was because during those four years, the few times Amamiya Miyako did call out, he communicated with his Zanpakuto, and when he felt the Asauchi was about to transform into a Zanpakuto, he stopped.

To learn the true name of his Zanpakuto while at the True Spiritual Arts Academy would make him too famous, so Amamiya Miyako suppressed this urge until today, when he finally intended to seriously communicate with his Zanpakuto.

As his consciousness sank, when Amamiya Miyako opened his eyes, he was back in that place, that dim, chaotic room.

"It seems you can't wait any longer?" A voice came from behind him.

"Yes, the time is ripe." Amamiya Miyako didn't turn around; he knew who the voice belonged to.

"In four years, you've called me a handful of times, yet now you expect to succeed in one go. Isn't that a bit too arrogant?" The black-haired youth, clad in a white robe, smiled as he spoke to Amamiya Miyako.

"Arrogant… Indeed, I am a bit arrogant, but more than arrogance, you should understand. A stronger emotion than arrogance is my craving for power, my resistance to dying again. You should understand me." Amamiya Miyako turned to look at the black-haired youth.

"Hahahaha, that's right. It seems you haven't forgotten how you felt when you died in the Human World. So, how will you obtain my power?"

"Are you not going to honestly tell me your name? Shikai is supposed to be a process of mutual communication and understanding. We already understand each other, so why play the riddle-maker?" Amamiya Miyako asked, puzzled.

"Mutual understanding, huh… That's just your one-sided idea. You don't even know my true identity, and you expect me to tell you my name?" The black-haired youth shook his head helplessly, no longer bothering with Amamiya Miyako, but instead began to bend down, fumbling for something in the corner.

"I remember it was somewhere here." He seemed to be muttering something.

"What are you looking for? There shouldn't be any physical objects in a spiritual space, right?" Amamiya Miyako was confused. Looking for something in this place? It was clearly a world conceptualized by the mind.

"Ah, found it." The black-haired youth pulled out a black box and opened it. He picked up the item inside, and Amamiya Miyako's pupils began to dilate as he saw it.

In the black-haired youth's hand was a small, silver cross pendant. Could this be? Amamiya Miyako speculated, simultaneously searching the original owner's memories for the origin of this item.

"Are you surprised? But if you think carefully, you should be able to remember. And this thing is indeed what you're guessing." The black-haired youth explained with a smile. As his words fell, the silver cross pendant began to glow with a blue-white light. reishi seemed to gather in his hand, gradually stabilizing and forming the shape of a weapon. That weapon was… a bow.

The black-haired youth looked at the bow in his hand and nodded in satisfaction, "Come on, your battle. Understand my power through battle!"

Amamiya Miyako still wanted to ask something, but then, a blue-white arrow came flying at him, forcing Amamiya Miyako to swiftly dodge to the side.

"Don't try to ask me anything more. Come on, feel it in battle." The black-haired youth raised his hand, gathering reishi again to form an arrow, which he swiftly shot out.

He could only be a living target in the room. No, he had to get out. Amamiya Miyako looked at the window and immediately turned and crashed through it. As the glass shattered, Amamiya Miyako appeared on the street.

"I thought you wouldn't have the courage to go out. After all, you see, that Hollow back then scared you quite a bit." The black-haired youth also came out and stood in mid-air.

Amamiya Miyako's mouth twitched. Why could he also use Hirenkyaku to stand in the air, just like Ishida Ryūken back then? Before Amamiya Miyako could even get a firm footing on the ground, another arrow came.

Amamiya Miyako had no choice but to use Shunpo to dodge this arrow.

"Are you only going to dodge? Doesn't that make what you said earlier sound a bit lacking in confidence?" The black-haired youth said, then shot another arrow.

Amamiya Miyako understood that if he just kept going like this, he would never be able to touch him, let alone learn the Zanpakuto's true name.

"King, the mask of flesh and bone, all creation, flapping wings, you who bear the name of man! Scorching heat and conflict, surging forth from the sea, advancing south, stepping forward!"

Amamiya Miyako ran while approaching the black-haired youth, "Hado #31, Shakkahō!" A red projectile shot out, flying towards the black-haired youth.

"Too slow. Such a long incantation, are you trying to warn me?" He jumped up, easily dodging the Shakkahō.

"Bakudo #30, Tsuri Sansen!" Amamiya Miyako knew that the previous attack wouldn't hit, so he quickly chanted a Bakudo. As the incantation ended, three large, pointed light beams fixed the black-haired youth's hands and waist.

"Oh, this one's not bad." Even though he was restrained, he still wore a smile. Amamiya Miyako quickly moved forward, standing before him, and swung the sword in his hand at him.

"But it doesn't do much." The black-haired youth leaned back, using Amamiya Miyako's sword to strike the light beams formed by Tsuri Sansen. The beams shattered, and he swiftly distanced himself from Amamiya Miyako, his hands not stopping their movement. He quickly drew his bow, aimed at Amamiya Miyako, and released the gathered reishi.

Amamiya Miyako had no choice but to make an emergency dodge, retreating and putting distance between them, hiding behind a wall. Amamiya Miyako pondered his strategy. Currently, it seemed he had a grasp of all Quincy abilities. His familiar use of Hirenkyaku alone was giving Amamiya Miyako a headache, and the Kido he learned at the True Spiritual Arts Academy had limited power, and using them individually might not cause much damage. Zanjustu couldn't get him close.

"What's wrong? Are you just going to hide? You can't attack me if you hide, you know." The black-haired youth stood in the air, taunting him.

Amamiya Miyako didn't reply, still considering his options.

"But even if you hide, it's useless. It seems today ends here." The black-haired youth sighed.

"Oh, right, I found an interesting technique in your memories. Let's try it out." The black-haired youth lifted his leg, stepping higher into the sky, then slowly drew his bow, aiming at the ground.

Amamiya Miyako, seeing no movement for a long time, poked his head out to look at him. He saw the black-haired youth already high in the sky, maintaining his drawn bow stance, with reishi visibly gathering in the high altitude.

Could it be? Amamiya Miyako's pupils dilated. He quickly started running, approaching him. 'It's too late…' Amamiya Miyako quickly jumped towards him, his hands and mouth not stopping their movements, "King, the mask of flesh and bone, all creation, flapping wings, you who bear the name of man, truth and temperance, standing only with fangs upon the wall of dreams that knows no sin."

"Hado #33, Sōkatsui!" Hado #33 was the most powerful Hado Amamiya Miyako could currently unleash, but this Hado wasn't meant to hit him, but to stop him. Amamiya Miyako raised his hand and released it towards him. A blast of flame rapidly rushed towards the black-haired youth.

"It's too late. Today ends here." The black-haired youth said with a smile, lowering his drawn bow.

"Rain of Light." As his words fell, countless arrows appeared in the sky, like a torrential downpour sweeping across the land. The Sōkatsui was mercilessly shattered.

Countless arrows rained down from the sky, rushing towards him. So this is what it feels like to be pierced by a thousand arrows…

'To use a technique you found in my memories against me, you're quite something.' His final thought surfaced, and then Amamiya Miyako's consciousness dissipated.
