Chapter 1 - The Plunge

Muddle noises and sounds stir Eloy from his dream. However he keeps his eyes closed just wanting to keep sleeping a little longer. Dreaming of being on a date, with a tall brunette woman. "Eloy," she whispers his name leaning in for a kiss.. Then Eloy is ripped back into reality. Feeling a blast of icy air in his face waking him. "System Failure! System Failure!" a robotic voice blares along with loud beeping, red and yellow flashing lights. Eloy eyes already were blurred struggling to locate his goggle style glasses… Chilly cold coolant blasted again mist into his face as he pulled on his googles. "OWw!" he groaned as the elastic snapped against his ear. The cryogenic pod rocket violently his body sweating yet cold due to the cryogenic pod systems trying to keep him alive. Once he finally got on his glasses his eyes adjusted giving him clearer vison to see. His heart jumped looking out the small glass of the Cryogenic pod. Eloy.. Eloy's Cryogenic pod were not the hull of the star craft ship. No metal haul safely storing him and the other Terraformers. Like a stack of old-world filing cabinets but instead of obsolete paper files; it was for those put in stasis while they journeyed to new worlds. "No. No…!" Eloy's brown almond shaped eyes widened. Heart rate system picked up his panicked state.. Fire… Flames wind… clouds…. Green clouds.. Not white. Not shades of grey. Green. May shades of green. 'Poison?!' Eloy's thought to himself panicked.

A large metal portion of the haul nearly hit Eloy's pod. Rocking it violently into a spin. Eloy watched helplessly as the debris broke up into separate pieces; burning up as it fell into the gassy atmosphere of the planet. As the fiery debris tore through one of the plums of gassy green clouds on the unfamiliar planet; the clouds caught fire. Soon the whole cloud system lite up into a sky full of fire. Blue, green, orange and yellow flames spread fast consuming the whole cloud system. The computer's notification system blared, "Impact immanent. Deploying parachute. Impact Immanent. Deploying parachute." "Yes!" Eloy scrambled to find his oxygen mask.

The planets surface came into clearer view as he scrambled to pull on his mask. Moss, sludge, like a dragoon, or an old word depiction of a swamp. Thick green foggy air dark waters. "No… no! No!" Eloy saw his pod heading towards land.. Eloy realized the parachute still hadn't released.. His brown eyes widened scrambling to recall his debriefing of the crypod's safety features.. "Think Eloy! Damn it Tink! What did they say... In case of emergency's...?" he yelled at himself grabbing his head. Trying to recall that day.. Closing his eyes..

The large crew shuffled through a large metal haul of the ship. Eloy was amazed at the technology, accidently walking into the back of what felt like a wall. Eloy stumbled back and looked up seeing a guy twice his size, Turing to glare down at him. In a full military security uniform a womans ideal man clean cut, blond hair blue eyes that old world thor looking face Chris Himsworth..? Eloy thought.. being a super nerd of old world fictional history and films.. "Watch it four eyes." The man warned. "S-sorry..." Eloy stammered moving to quickly catch up with his group.. Eloy glanced back over his shoulder and saw the group of soldiers making fun of him.. Eloy knew. How could he not. "Brocolli hair" "Googly Eyes" were words often people used to make fun of him.. His fist clenched in his hoodie. Eloy recalled all the times he'd been cornered, thrown into a locker, kicked, sucker punched.. Had food dumped on him... Nearly not realizing the group had stopped Infront of a cryogenic pod. An older man and younger woman both dressed in the newest generation of space suits stood on a raised platform.

Eloy gazed at the woman, damn. She was hot. Glancing about he noticed a lot of the people were. Of course they had to be fit to travel in space. No one could be out of the BMI. High IQ. Had to pass a physical. All picked due to their expertise in their fields. Eloy had thankfully been able to pass all, being very skinny and in decent shape he was a walking translator computer almost making him the lead Linguist. Language had been a hobby from a young age and he was able to pick them up. It helped his family worked in the trade markets. He was constantly surrounded by different cultures and languages. However he was an outside most that made it here went to private academies and came from families with ties to past terraforming missions.

There! Eloy's eyes napped open recalling it was voice activated. "Parachute! Release Parachute!?" He screamed, the computer didn't seem to recognize his voice... Eloy scrambled trying to pull every single lever and button he could see or feel inside the pod. Finally he managed to pulled a lever and the parachute released. "Yes!" Eloy yelled catching his breath as he looked up watching the fabris and rope deploy.. The parachute... It didn't open. Eloy's smile faded. It wasn't opening. It was tangled… Mangled. Eloy closed his eyes crying accepting his fate... as the pod plummeted towards the ground. Praying death would be painless. The cryogenic pod rocked hitting alien plants like trees. The parachute and rope caught on the branches snaping some but managing to slow his pod enough... Eloy is thrown forward cracking his head against the pods glass… His vision slowly went dark… The cryogenic pod swinging in the branches, the plants yellow secretions from damage to its bark slowly covered the parachute ropes and dissolved it.. The ropes snapped and the Pod dropped to the swamps mossy floor acting like a cushion... Eloy's unconscious body laid in the pod, a small yellow creature made its way towards the florigen object drawn to the heat. A mossy covered black and yellow sluglike creature flattened itself moving inside glass crack reforming on the other side. It recoiled at the oxygen environment and drops on Eloy's goggles... rolling and twitching as if in in pain it moves towards his nostrils growing bigger as Eloy's breath touches it. The creature dives into his nasial cavity craving the carbon dioxide. It begins to lay flat against his internal system spreading like a weeded vine burrowing itself into the skin. Growing smaller or larger due to his breathing. Making itself at home in the unaware and unconscious human being. Consuming the carbon dioxide. Eloy's body coughs trying to reject the foreign object but ir spurs anchors into his skin. Deciding this is its new home now.

Several crew stood in their grey space uniforms helmets on scanning the environment. "The environment is toxic.. Keep helmets on." Travis called over his coms to the five other survivors he's found thus far. "Damn... Look at that.!" Deago another military security officer said nudging Travis' arm pointing up at the sky on fire. "The Toxic and flammable... Don't set off any sparks." He joked as they looked up. More falling fiery debris. "Fuck... and I'm dying for a smoke." Gavin groaned adjusting the collare of his suit. "We need to keep scanning for survivors, Move out." Tavis barked turing to move through the un even terain.

"Over here! I saw a cryo-pod fall close by!" female voice call out over coms.. Lanna waved to the others pointing the direction she spotted two pods fall in. "Lets move out" Travis said approaching her, "Good spoting Lanna," he said passing by her. The planet was eerily quite minus the sound of debris inpacting water and land. The crew grouped up moving in Travis's foot steps, slow and sweeping. Deago pulled out a scanner to detect movement but it was on the fritz. "Gads! The company bought cheap crappy equipment!" He cursed banging it against his leg. He tossed it too Will, he scrambled to catch it already caring some other scrap materials. "Radio boy, fix it" Deago wasn't asking. "We don't want to be ambushed by native life.." Travis moved slow eyes keen noting any movement in the green gassy fog. It was almost like a mix of gas and pollen. "Why couldn't we have crash landed on a beachy planet? No... We had to land in a backwater sewer.." Deago grumbled.

"At least we are alive," Lanna said as they approached a clearing, the dense fog like substance pushed back revealing two cryogenic pods intact. "There! Two of them! Life support still running.." A female says kneeling to look at the side of one of the pods. "Check on that pod over there" Travis ordered as he made sure to keep eyes on the fog surrounding them. Gavin walked over to the one propped against a large tree trunk. Only to see one of the crews medical officer cut in half dead.. "Fuck!" Gavin cursed. "What is it Gavin?" Travis asked over the coms. "Dead medical officer... Jones... I think..." Gavin responded. Travis sighed frustrated, "Who's is in the other pod? Is it another doctor or engineer?" Travis glanced over his shoulder to Lanna as Will and Deago helped clean off the pollen like suit off the name plate and glass seeing Eloy passed out inside the pod. "Fucking Eloy?! The Linguist?! Fucking Useless piece of shit!" Deago cursed laughing out of the irony. He kicked he side of the cry-pod. "He.. HE still alive.. I'll open the pod.." Lanna said accessing the system override lock system. .

Tavis's brows knitted he saw something .. A slight shift in the fog.. "Wait... Everyone freeze.." Travis ordered. There was a shuffling in the dense foliage… "Open the pod Lanna…" Travis ordered glancing at the pod then back at the foliage. Lanna nodded accessing the panel releasing the locks as it opened. As she move to try and quickly put Eloy's oxygen mask on, she was pulled back by Deago. "Leave him .." Deago stated pulling her back all the men now focused on the moving fog. "Somethings out there… We need bait to see what the hell we are dealing with." Travis said glancing at Eloy then back at the fog. "Fall back." Travis ordered Gavin grabbed Will as Deago kept an arm wrapped around Lanna pulling her into the brush. "W-wait… Leave him? But he's alive.. A survivor.. And part of the crew.. " She stammered… "Fuck that.. He is useless.. At least this way we learn something." Travis said as they hide laying in wait. Eloy's pod slowly opened the alarm system still blaring, "Oxygen low. Toxic gas detected. Oxygen Low. Toxin detected." The computer repeats. They system still puffing out oxygen, trying to stabilize what it could. "Aren't you trying to save survivors? Save him!" Lanna shouted trying to push free of Deago's hold. "Quite!" Travis snapped. Lanna froze flinching at his tone. Then a shadow emerged from the fog drawing all their eyes. A gigantic snake like creature slithers into the area. several golden eyes, dark green skin, plants and moss growing on its body. The crews eyes widened watching it... This was not something that had ever been encountered or reported on before. It started sniffing the air.. First it smells the blood of the dead medical officer…

It opens its mouth, and a spider wed like substance shoots out wrapping around the dead corpse.. Before drawing it back with its jaw. the net tightens turning what's left of jones into a bloody ball before consuming the remains of the medical officer. The survivors watch in horror... Travis hand tightens on his gun, the smoke is flammable, he isn't sure their guns might start a fire and burn them all to ash or not in the dense fog.. The creature's head snaps to the loud beeping from Eloy's cryo-pod. Slowly it slithers towards it.. Will leans backwards into a plant bulb. A high pitch hissing noise like a bottle rocket goes off as the bulb explodes into a thick pink pollen like smoke.. The snakes head snaps towards them, before coiling up to move. "Run!" Travis orders quickly moving Will out of the way as the Snake nearly hits them. The survivors scrambled away at the creature turns to advance on them again. Lanna scrambled to follow Deago and the others. She is jerked to a stop her foot caught in a net work of tree roots. "Help!" SHe cries out tryign to pull her foot free only fot the roots to tighten its hold. "Lanna" Gavin turns seeing her left behind he moves to help but its too late the web like net encases her body. Ensnaring her whole body, she screams as its tightened around her squeezed to death before being flung back into the snake mouth swallowing her remains' whole. "Fuck..." Gavin scrambled to run. "Get out of the fog!" Travis ordered. "Then we fire" they quickly tried finding a clear area...

Eloy slowly stirs head throbbing hearing screams, gun fire…. Slowly he sits up and gasps as his lungs burn breathing in the pollen and alien planets atmosphere. Something feels caught in his throat, but he cant cough it up.. Slowly standing he can see a large shadowy figure in the dense fog being shot at by survivors. The fog moving violently making it hard to really tell what's happening... He grabs his throat looking for his helmet. But its missing… His oxygen mask int the pod.. He kneels to find it. His lungs burning... A shadow fell over him, Eloy looked up hoping to see another survivor.. His eyes widened seeing that of a bone mask of a Strange beast with big red beady eyes. and covered in moss…. The thing grabbed his head pulling him off the ground effortlessly. Eloy gasped struggling to break free the creature leaned in close its eyes at Eloy's mouth, then it moved. In the blink of an eye. It's eyes nearly touching his thankfully Eloy's goggle's made a slight barrier. It made some type of growl. Eloy trembling closing his eyes shut tight as it dragging him violently into the brush holding him by his head its hand effortlessly encompassing it. Eloy was helplessly watching the pod and the others disappear in the fog.
