Chapter 1 - VII – Icarus' Wings God gave you

Elijah's path was not merely a quest for light, it was a return to where his lineage had left something unfinished. He knew the light would be found there. He listened and followed every whisper in the wind, it was the only way to arrive prepared. It wasn't about losing one's footing, it was deeper than that. The path he chose was one that led through the very soul of every ash he was meant to walk through. It was the path of a lifetime, not some ordinary road carved out by others. It was the path that would shift the whole. God had told him he was the chosen one. Not chosen by others, but by God, the one who had carefully safeguarded this journey within Elijah. God was the architect himself. He provided everything Elijah needed, but only when Elijah had grown wise enough to choose the right way. How could Elijah not follow this path? Only if he chose to devote his eternal life to walking abandoned roads, paths of emptiness, paths worn down by time, paths made by others meant to build his. Elijah's power was there, in that very choice. Only he could decide if God was truly dead, as the bearers of the devil lies shouted so loudly. That would be his most profound and lethal sin. For God would choose another, again and again, one wise enough not to carry the lie. Elijah wondered, and asked God

Are you lying to me? Isn't this treasure you promised me, the one I long for with all my soul, just a divine promise of what will be? I thought I was the one you chose.

Elijah stared into the sun. His eyes could no longer bear its light. They began to close. And God replied

Enough, Elijah. You are burning your wings like Icarus. I promised to give you his wings, to show you your soul. I chose you so you would tell me everything. The rules are clear. This is the last time I will say it, The path I am giving you is this ; everything you have ever truly wanted, not the possessions they promised you. I give you time to become wise, wise enough, eventually. But when you stand before me, remember what that man warned you ; you cannot lie to me and say you did it because they told you. I brought you here to hear only the truth. And when you stand before me, all your last lies will fade into the void of time. And only then, if you are resilient, and free from all those you have clung to, you will still be able to stand.

Tell me the truth, and what I offer you will be eternal.
