Many years after 3rd conjunction of the spheres, world undergone various transformation. A group of people pioneered technology, which brings prosperity to world without relying on old supernatural means, the world enter in age of industrial revolution. Unfortunately along with prosperity, comes new troubles.
Many peasents, craftsmen and workers become jobless because of induction of automatons, which can do all types of works, be it farming, production, factory work, cleaning, babysitting and so on.
Herbologists and alchemists were replaced by doctors and chemists, the former's modern medical procedure is superior to traditional ones, while the latter's modern chemical utilization and application is pedictable, easier and more efficient.
Sorcerers and sorceresses were no longer needed due to the mechanics, engineers and scientists replacing them as the new magicians of this new era.
And witchers, they too weren't spared either, thanks to the creations 5 types modified humans created with science and technology, they are bio-humans, espers, cyborgs, bio-esper and superhumans.
Bio-humans are genetically modified humans with superior strength, agility, constitution and perception and endurance than normal humans, making them fine warriors.
Espers are humans whose brain's full potential is unlocked through scientifical means, allowing them to use superpowers, a power similar to supernatural powers used by sorcerers and witchers, except this power is originated from a user's brain and not from any form of source.
Cyborgs are humans whose body has been modified by mechanical augmentations or/and implants. They are similar to bio-humans except, they are modified through mechanical means.
Bio-esper are humans who both genetically modified and had their brain's full potential ia unlocked, they are part bio-human and part esper, as they possess both superior body and superpowers.
Superhumans are humans who are not only genetically modified but also possess augmentations or/and implants, most of the superhumans are soldiers or police officers or perhaps even bodygaurds.
Thus, in the end, be it peasents, herbologists, workers, alchemists, craftsman, sorcerers and even witchers, they are all crushed by the industrial revolution, making poor even poorer or even making people jobless and have no work to do to earn a living. Causing many (including, ironically, usually neutral, witchers) to have resentment towards technology and technologists.
It is widely believed that the downfall of sorcerers and witchers is what allowed technology and their maker to thrive. Because of this, many peasents that once supported the witch hunts and eradication of mutants, are now yearning the restoration of glory of magic and rebuild of witcher schools.
Afterall, by now sorcerers are no longer believed to be 'messengers of evil' as now they (according to them) have 'new evil' known as technologists, similarly they no longer see witchers as 'freaks' as the modified humans have become the new 'freaks' to them.
They also poured their hatred towards, many anti-magic groups like cult of eternal fire and their subordinates like blazing rose knights, as common folks believe they are the cause of fall of magic and rise of technology. Thus, not only the anti-magic groups and their subordinates lose their political powers but they also become the new scapegoat for common folk's misfortunes.
Rise of technology also affected the once thriving free city Novigrad, which went from a wealthy city to one of the most pooresr city, thanks to creation of a new free city known as Taurus, the Taurus city is the largest and most technologically advanced city in the entire world, a place where all people's (more specifically scientific people) dream come true and large quantity of business opportunities as well as satisfying income foe people.
As the result, Taurus city, not only become extremely wealthy and thriving city but, it also indirectly made Novigrad a extremely poor city with so many impoverished and unemployed people. Novigradian blamed the cult of eternal fire for the city's downfall by their witch hunts and persecution of non-humans and witchers, as people believed the very power of chaos that they despised in past could have saved Novigrad from it's destruction.
Novigradian, then finally rejected the cult's religion but also demolished the temple of the cult in the city, as well as burning the cult's priests in stakes. Afterward, they begged the sorcerers to return to city, they even began treat non-humans and witchers better, despite being too late for them to finally accept the folks the found alien, as the technology have advanced very much.
Still, having finally learnt from it's mistake, Novigrad and many territories of magical and traditional folks, recovered enough to put a fight with the technological and modern folks.
They start with protests against the technology which later evolved into huge movement against the new ways. Thus, leading to civil wars between traditional and modern folks, ending with neither have any advantage.
In the end, both side had a truce, to stop the war which cause many innocent lives to meet their doom. Although world is in peace, the peace itself was fragile as modern people including the technologists are very resourceful and wealthy people, who are slowly trying to build their power to fight the traditional folks and sorcerers again. The traditional people and sorcerers also did everything to build their as well as try to sabotage the technological advancement of modern folks and technologists, to protect their own existance but also weaken their rival.
And if what happened earlier wasn't enough, a strange disease start to spread, which believed by both scientists and alchemists to be the result of clash of magic and technology during the war. Technologists blames the sorcerers to be the cause of illness while sorcerers believed it to be caused by technology, and claimed technologists to be the real culprits.
Either way it was a matter of time this fragile peace will end and world will plunge into chaos once again, especially with wild hunt returning to this world, it is unknown what they want this time, but it clear the no matter what kind fragile peace the land experience, there will be no real peace and land will once again will be a place of chaos and all sorts of misfortunes.
