Chapter 20 - A Guest

It was dawn, the sky darkening as the sun went down. The only markings left of the sun were the last bits of orange and pink. Sitting on a bench outside the library was a captivating young man whom people could not help but sneak a glimpse at. The library was about to close, and the remaining guests were leaving. The young man stood up from the bench, seeing the light blue car driving through the parking lot and parking as close to him as possible. The car is a Cadillac Coupe De Ville, a car recently bought by the Malak family. They had six cars, but this was the one Mary Malak wanted, and her husband, Andrew Malak, bought for her.

Noah walked to the car, opened the passenger door, and sat in the seat before closing the door back. Mary glanced at her son. "Wear your seat belt."

"Why is it not like it's a law?" Noah responded.

"We've talked about this before, Noah. It doesn't matter if it is the law or not; if it keeps you safe, you will do it." Mary's response was filled with irritation.

"Mom, even if we do get in a wreck and I get harmed, I'll just rewind my injuries."

Mary sighed and started to drive. Some arguments were not worth it, and this one seemed less and less worth the headache every time it happened. "Your father's friend Jonas will be staying the night at our house, in the guest room." Mary added that once she started to drive.

Noah knew Jonas. He was like an uncle to Noah and was his father's best friend. Jonas was also one of the people who helped his father hunt mutants. Noah felt a slight bitterness in his stomach; A bad feeling that made him worry about Jonas.

"Why is Jonas coming over. He has a family, a wife, and a daughter." Noah remarked.

"Apparently, he fought with his wife. He wanted space from his family, so he decided to spend time with Andrew. Conveniently, we have a few guest rooms, and he asked to stay the night." Mary said.

"When dad hunted mutants, Jonas helped." Noah stated.

"Your father doesn't hunt mutants anymore, Noah." Mary replied with certainty.

The rest of the drive was filled with silence until they pulled into the long driveway connecting to their house.

Noah was out of the car first but waited for his mother before walking into the house. They walked together, opening the main front door to the house. Instantly, they both heard the laughter of men. Noah knew the sound came from the game room. Noah walked to the game room to see the two men playing mini golf.

"Fa- Uncle, I'm home." Noah, who almost messed up, said.

Andrew, who was just about to hit the golf ball, stopped and looked over at his son. "Noah, welcome home. How were your studies?"

"Good. I see that Jonas is here." Noah replied.

Jonas laughed, "I'm still not used to how similar your cousin looks to your son, and they have the same name." Jonas had laughter in his voice, but there was also a hint of suspension.

The room had a sudden tension about it. Andrew cleared his voice as he defended, "They don't look similar at all, Jonas, they just both have albinism, and Noah is a common name in my family tree."

"Albinism, I thought you didn't believe in that stuff. God blessed Noah, remember." Jonas replied.

"Can we stop talking about my missing son?" Unless, of course, you have information on where he is, I don't want you speaking about him." Andrew replied to his voice louder with each word.

"My sources still have no clues on where Noah went. We also have no idea of how or who killed Harry." Jonas said, exhaustion filling his eyes.

Andrew and Noah clench their jaws, hearing the name Harry again. Of course, Andrew only recently knew what had happened to Harry, the real truth, but he could say nothing. There was a part of Andrew, though, that wished Harry were still alive; he would torture that man until he wished he were dead.

Noah decided that, now that he had made the situation uncomfortable to say, "I'll be in my room studying if you need me."

Andre and Jonas nodded in understanding. "Just be ready for supper in two hours." Andrew replied.

Jonas laughed, saying, "Oh man, I can't wait to taste your wife's cooking again. My wife never even seasons the food. Just some salt, please, for the love of God." Andrew laughed as well, going back to aiming at his club at the golf ball.

Noah walked up the stairs to his room. His new agenda on the list tests his powers. Noah glanced around the room before his eyes landed on a box of Legos he had stored under his bed. He went over to them, grabbing a bunch of pieces in his hands. Then he went to the center of the room. He imagines when he stopped the missiles. There were over forty missiles that he was rewinding at a time.

He looked at the Legos in his hands; there were maybe sixty. 'Alright, we will start small.' He thought. He threw the Legos into the air. His eyes glowed blue as the Legos that were once in the air were suspended and then went back into his hands. Noah then switches his eyes, glowing golden yellow. The Legos now went into the air. Noah switches back and forth between fast-forward and rewinding. The Legos looked like they were being controlled in the air through telekinesis, but it wasn't.

Once Noah was satisfied, he rewinded the Legos till they were once again back in the box. Noah then tried to rewind his body to go back to where he was at the box. Noah, without controlling his limbs, walked backwards as if he was being rewinded to the box. That got him thinking, 'Could I make it go faster?' he wondered. Noah didn't try it with his body first; that was much more difficult than just trying it out with Legos. He once again rewinded the Lego to the air. First, he slowed it down to a near standstill. Noah smiled as sweat formed on his forehead. Then he controlled it to go faster and faster until the Legos were moving at such a speed that it was hard to see with his eyes. Like when you're at second base in baseball and a ball is hit straight at you. You barely saw the ball fast enough to react to it.

Noah stopped the speed, slowing the Lego's back down before controlling them back into their box. 'Could I make myself go that fast. And would it hurt me?' Noah questioned. He wanted to experiment on it more, but then he heard the alarm that he had set on his wristwatch go off. "Time for supper." Noah said. He walked out of his room and into the dining room. His mother was already putting plates on the table. His father and Jonas were already sitting down, talking about stock prices.

Jonas wasn't like most people who were around my father. Most people feared or buttered up to him for his wealth and power. Jonas was wealthy and had a good amount of power and resources himself, but he wasn't quite as wealthy or powerful, so he naturally was a step down from Andrew.

Mary put dish after dish in the middle of the table for everyone to grab and put on their plate, and then she came and sat down. Andrew said a prayer before they all dove into the food. Noah kept quiet, mostly the whole time, and no one seemed to bother his silence as they were engrossed in their own talks. "Mary, your food is divine." Jonas rubbed his stomach as he said that to Mary. "Well, don't get too full; I also made dessert." Andrew and Jonas smiled. "What did you make?" Andrew asked in a voice filled with anticipation, like he was a child again. "Tonight is a banana night. I made banana bread and banana pudding!" Mary exclaimed.

Noah would normally be exacted about this. Mary didn't make desserts often, and most times he wasn't allowed to eat too many sweets. But his thoughts were on his abilities. "Father, Mother, may I excuse myself. I am full." Noah said, gesturing to the exit of the room. Andrew shrugged his shoulders as he said, "I'm alright with it as long as your mother is." Mary, however, frowned. "You don't want dessert?" she asked, perplexed by your decision.

Noah shook his head, "No, I'm full, may I be excused?"

"I guess you can go." Mary replied hesitantly.

Once Noah was out of the room, Jonas said, "I'm surprised you're allowing him to eat desserts. You didn't like it with your son did."

Andrew sighed slightly in frustration that Jonas chose to talk about his son again. It was Mary who answered his question. "Andrew and I regret being so strict on Noah. I think we're making it up a bit right now." Mary had a small smile on her face, but her eyes were filled with guilt.

Andrew decided to change the conversation as he asked, "What was the fight with your wife about?"

Jonas frowned, "Don't get me started." Jonas took a deep breath and then continued, "As you know, we have one child together, and as much as I love my daughter, she is a daughter. I want another child, a son- a boy. She doesn't want another child. Says that she doesn't want to start over again and likes our daughter. Says our daughter can inherit everything, including my company." Jonas scoffed. "As if the men in my company would ever decide to follow a woman even if she was my daughter."

Andrew nodded as he said, "Your wife will come around, don't worry."

Noah woke up and realized he had fallen asleep on the floor. His last memory was trying to reverse his body, doing so in a sped-up manner, injuring himself in the process, and reversing the injuries. His throat felt dry. He stood up, walking outside to head to the kitchen to get water. His steps were quiet; he didn't want to wake anyone and didn't want anyone to know he was awake. He then stopped as he heard voices coming from the kitchen. Noah walked to the doorway and hid while he listened in.

"We got another job. The public is getting to know more and more about the demons. Our names have spread throughout the closest towns in Virginia. There's a demon in the town over. The people who want him hunted down are people with power who would owe us a favor for getting rid of trash in their town, Andrew." Jonas said.

Andrew sighed as he said, "I don't know about this man-"

Jonas interrupted, anger filling his voice, "Now I understand why you said no this past month. With your child missing, but we need to continue doing this if anything this. We are God's messengers. If we don't do this, we are undermining God."

Noah didn't hear more as he used his power, reversing his steps, and within a second, he was back in his room. He had a hand to his mouth, and he could feel a vile taste in his throat. His father was still hunting mutants.

Sidenote: So last chapter I got feedback that Noah may be a bit unmature. He's supposed to be right now. He has the mental mind of a fourteen year old. He's not supposed to be Gojo or Sung Jinwoo right now. He is supposed to be immature and cringe cause thats how teenagers are.

If you cant tell this character will be OP but not right now and he will make many mistakes before he becomes OP. If he upsets you I dont see that as a bad thing that just means i'm writing him correctly lol.

Anyways keep up with the feedback. I do enjoy it and I do read it. Sometimes I disagree with it other times I'm like how could I have made that better? Also your feedback will help and have impacts on the story! If you have an idea I really like I might implant the idea in the story with your permission.
