Chapter 47 - The breaking point

🌙 Episode 47: The Breaking Point

Lila's POV

Marcus's claws dug lightly against my throat, enough to sting, enough to remind me how quickly this could end. My pulse thundered in my ears.

Across the clearing, Ethan stood coiled like a spring, golden eyes burning with fury. He wanted to leap, I could see it, but he held himself back—for me.

Marcus chuckled low. "See, Alpha? Even you know when you're beaten. One wrong move and your precious little human will be nothing but a memory."

I forced myself to breathe evenly, my fingers tightening around the iron poker hidden at my side.

He thought I was weak. He thought I was just prey.

Big mistake.

"Ethan…" I whispered, locking eyes with him. And in that silent moment, I begged him to trust me.

Then I moved.

I slammed the poker upward, twisting my body so the iron drove into Marcus's ribs. The hiss of searing flesh filled the air, and he howled in pain, stumbling back.

Ethan's POV

The instant she struck, I lunged. My claws tore into Marcus's arm, ripping him away from her. He swung wildly, his strength desperate, but he was off balance.

"You'll never have her!" I roared, slamming him to the ground.

He writhed, snarling, the stench of burning flesh thick around us. I pinned him, my fangs inches from his throat.

But instead of finishing him, I leaned close and growled, "Run."

His eyes widened. He hadn't expected mercy. Not from me.

"This isn't mercy," I spat. "It's a warning. Next time, I don't stop."

I shoved him off, and he vanished into the trees, his curses echoing through the forest.

Lila's POV

My knees buckled, the weight of what had just happened crashing over me. Ethan caught me before I could fall, his arms strong, grounding.

"You could've killed him," I whispered.

"I will," Ethan said softly, brushing a trembling strand of hair from my face. "But not until I make sure you're safe first."

For the first time, I realized—he wasn't just protecting me. He was planning something bigger. Something final.

And deep down, I knew Marcus wasn't gone. Not yet.
